Crazy Beginnings and Happy Endings

sixteen

I woke up the next morning to a knocking on the door. I opened my eyes to find myself laying on the couch with my head in Max's lap. Max was still asleep so I got up to answer the door.

I opened the door to find Jordan and Kris standing there. "Hi," I mumbled.

"Bry," Kris said pulling me into a hug. "I'm so happy to see you."

I cringed a bit before replying. "Good to see you too. Sorry about last night."

"It's fine," Kris said with a smile. "I'm just happy your alright."

"Me too," Jordan added.

I moved aside to let them in. "Max is still asleep. He's on the couch."

Jordan started to smirk. "I'm so waking him up," he said before heading to the living room. A few seconds later Kris and I heard a thud and a moan. We looked at each other and hurried to the living room.

"What happened?" I asked as we got to the doorway of the living room. Max was sitting on the floor rubbing his head and Jordan was standing beside him with a look of accomplishment on his face.

"Nothing," Jordan said looking at me. "Max just fell off the couch."

"I did not," Max argued. "You pushed me off."

I shook my head at the two boys before going to the kitchen to cook some breakfast. I looked in Max's fridge and found some eggs and a few vegetables. I cut up some onions, peppers, mushrooms and cheese. I broke some eggs and mixed the vegetables and cheese into the eggs. I started making omelets.

"Something smells good," Kris said from behind me.

I turned around and looked at him. "Omelets." I said before turning back to the stove.

"Are you ok?" Kris asked walking up beside me.

"Yea," I glanced at him. His face was serious. "Max told me what happened after I left."

Kris nodded. "I thought he would."

"He told me you want to be only friends," I blurted. I felt my cheeks flush.

"Yea," Kris said looking down. "I don't know about you but kissing you was super weird. It was like I was kissing my sister."

"Exactly," I agreed. "I felt so awkward when we kissed. It was almost gross."

"Thanks," Kris laughed. "That makes me feel good."

I laughed too. "I'm not saying your a bad kisser. It was just icky." I crinkled my nose.

"You're not to bad of a kisser either," Kris smiled. "But I agree it was icky."

"Don't freak or anything," I said turning to the stove again to check the omelets. "I told Max about my past." I stopped to see Kris's reaction. All he did was nod, but the look on his face was one of confusion. I knew he was wondering why. "Truthfully, I don't know why I did. I just felt the need to share and Max was there. Something about his presence made me feel safe."

"Sounds like you've got a thing for Max," Kris said with a small smile.

"I don't think so," I said shaking my head. I removed the two omelets that I had cooking.

"What don't you think?" Jordan asked as he and Max walked into the kitchen. He grabbed one of the omelets while Max grabbed the other.

"Don't worry about it," I shook my head before starting the last two omelets. As the three boys went to sit at the table, I couldn't help but think about what Kris had just said. I didn't think it was true, but I knew it could be possible. Another thing popped into my head as I looked at the omelets. Max was six years older than me. I wasn't too concerned about age when it came to dating. I shook the thoughts out of my head as I removed the omelets from the pans. I shut off the stove and made my way to the table, giving Kris his omelet.

"This is amazing," Max commented as I sat down beside Kris.

"Thanks," I smiled. "But it's nothing special, you could make the same thing if you wanted."

"Maybe," Max said as he finished his food. "What are you guys up to today?"

"I don't know," Kris said with a shrug. "Tomorrow Bry leaves, so I kind of want to do something special."

"I have an idea," Max smiled. "Ce qui si-"

"Max," I said, "I understand french, so that won't work. Unless you're keeping it from Jordan."

Jordan glared at me. "One day I'll understand," he muttered.

I rolled my eyes and looked at Kris, "I really need a shower. Can we head over to your place?"

"Of course," Kris replied. "Max, I'll give you a call while she's showering and you can tell me your idea. Then we will get together and do something."

"Deal," Max said walking with Kris, Jordan and I to the front door. "See you later, Brylyn."

I gave him a very quick hug. "Thanks for letting me crash here last night and thanks for talking with me last night."

"Anytime," Max smiled before closing the door behind us.

"So how was your night with Max?" Jordan asked once we were in Kris's BMW.

"It was fine," I said.

"That's it? Just fine?" Jordan pried.

"Yes, Jordan. Just fine. It wasn't spectacular. We talked and then fell asleep." I rolled my eyes.

"On the couch together?" Jordan asked.

"Jordan, leave her alone," Kris defended. "Don't you think she's ben through enough this past day without you bugging her?"

"Fine," Jordan said sinking in his seat with a pout on his face.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes and smile at Jordan's childish ways.
