Report 9.

Run.

Running, running, running. I run.

That disgusting man did something to me. Disgusting man!

Those voices. They chase me. No matter how fast I run I cannot outrun them.

Mother is crying. Crying, crying, crying. I must leave this place, leave at once.

“Jet!”

I see Audrey. Audrey is a silly woman, silly woman. I shall run past her, I shall.

She grabs my hand.

“Jet.”

I snatch my hand away. I won’t look at her. Audrey is a silly woman.

“You left me.”

Audrey frowns and begins to fix my shirt.

“Because you are born in 1984.”

She says, but I push her intruding hands away. What excuse is that, cat, mat, hat?

“Everyone here is. ”

She cups my chin. And continues her excuses, excuses, excuses.

“We all are.”

“We all are, all are, all are.”

I say as I look away. She runs her hand through my hair. My fingers twist.

Her name is Audrey? She is a silly one.

I look at Audrey. She is too busy fixing my shirt buttons. Eyebrows furrowed in concentration, mouth closed and frowned.

She is always fiddling, isn’t she? Isn’t she? Isn’t she? Yes, she is. She is, isn’t’ she?

Yes, she is. I notice she can never be still. I look around. No one else is in the corridor.

She is always warm, isn’t she?

I wrap my arms around Audrey. Yes, yes, she is.

She is tiny, isn’t she?

I frown.

“Audrey, stop talking.”

I close my eyes and hum.

“Jet.”

Audrey whispers.

“What are you talking about?”

I stare at her. I stare at Audrey. I chuckle. Audrey is a silly woman.

“Can’t you hear them?”

Audrey stares at me. Her eyes watching me, carefully.

“Audrey, you’re my friend. Of course you can hear them.”

She says nothing. She just watches me. Watching, watching, watching.

“Prove the lion his eyes are glass burns them!”

I grab her shoulders.

“Jet, stop.”

But I don’t. Oh, I will not stop.

“Audrey. Can’t you hear it? Can’t you?! Audrey!”

Audrey looks away. Never, did she avert her eyes from me. Never, never, never, beaver.

I stare at her. I stare at Audrey. I know.

“You can’t, Audrey. You can’t lie. So you look away.”
