Keep the Faith

The Army

Your army was like no other.

It was a strong one, soldiers fighting side by side with vigor and pride. It grew, and became an empire. You and your army rose above all odds. Your army was stronger then any the world had ever seen because your army had faith in you, themselves, and your cause.

You were always there for the army, and you would never let a soldier fall. There was a bond between you and your army, it was unlike any bond between leaders and armies before – it was love. And with that love came passion, and a cause worth fighting for.

Your empire grew.

But what we’ve learned from history is that all empires fall.

After a time of peace, a war broke out. A war that started because you were a certain label to the rest of the world, a war that started because you were different, and so was your army.

Your army fought back as hard as they could in the beginning, as did you. But, this war was going to be harder then any other battle fought before.

I joined your army in the middle of this war, not knowing what lay ahead. I fought beside you, pride for you and my cause growing more and more each day.

We fought every day, battling those who I had once feared. But with you beside me, those fears that seemed so big were now as small as I had felt without you.

The war went well, we were winning. But, the war began to grow from deep inside our own army. From the darkest bunker of our army arose suspicion and betrayal. Lies began to pour themselves from the lips of fellow comrades, and fools began to believe them.

They sold out.

They don’t care.

They betrayed us.

So many lies, I didn’t for once think they were anything more but rumors. They were planted by the enemy to weaken out army. I didn’t think that anyone in our army would even truly believe them.

But they did.

Our fellow brothers and sisters in arms began to turn against one another. First there were small quarrels, then the actual fighting. No one trusted a fellow solider anymore, it was everyone for them self. The once great army was crumbling and no one could stop it.

You tried to preach to the army, you told us to stay strong, and that you were still with us every step of the way. I believed you, along with the few others that still had faith in out army and our cause.

Each day, more people began to turn on the army, and then on you. They began to desert us, and tell everyone what it was that made us weak. More rumors and darkness began to spread amongst the ranks of the army. More people left us, and some went as far to join the other side.

But what was left of a true army stayed strong, and we held onto you so you knew we wouldn’t leave. But the rumors still came, and more people left. They no longer had faith in you or our cause. They were convinced by the enemy that you didn’t care and that this was all a lie.

Soon, there was but a handful of people left in your army, and your empire had turned to ash. But from the ashes, a new army began to rise. One that was stronger then before. People came to join our army and some of the deserters came back. We welcomed them all, and began to trust the army once again. But we knew another war was on the way. The enemy would never leave us alone until we were gone.

But, our army would never stay down. Our army would always be strong, because we had something they didn’t.

We had faith. Faith in you, faith in our cause, and faith in ourselves. And as long as we keep the faith, our army and our cause would live on. But, once there is no more faith left in the world, the army will fall never to rise again.
