Trapped
Yesterday we spent all day in the pool. We splashed each other and played in the water like a couple of toddlers. We made out for a while. Then we baked cookies, there was a flour fight; we ended up looking like ghosts with all the flour but the cookies turned out delicious, chocolate-chip.
When I got up I dressed; a tight black sleeveless shirt some comfortable hiking boots and some faded shorts. I tiptoed into Kyle’s room.
“Lets go walk around the forest.” I screamed jumping on him.
“What, what? I’m awake. What happened?” He said alarmed.
“I said: lets go hiking!” I squealed like a little girl.
“But last time I entered a forest I got lost for a week!” He groaned.
“Don’t be such a wimp!” I huffed. “I’ll be there to protect you babe.” I snickered.
“Yeah right. Fine, lets go. But not too far away.”
“Ok, get dressed.” I smiled and went to the kitchen.
I found a box of waffles in the fridge and put some in the toaster. I looked for a backpack and packed some cereal bars, PB & J sandwiches, some fruit, water bottles, a small cooler with ice and some portable juice packs.
He came into the kitchen wearing brown hiking boots, khaki pants and a white shirt. I’d seen Cody wearing the same outfit once when he came and he hadn’t looked half as good.
We ate the waffles and left.
We entered the forest at 10 am. Its 2 pm.
“Lets eat.” Kyle said.
“Fine.” I gave him a sandwich and a water bottle from the cooler. I took the same and we ate.
I suddenly smelled an all too familiar stench; a leech, and it wasn’t a familiar one (the ones that I could kill). In comparison with another human my senses are very heightened, but comparing my human senses to my wolf senses they are rather dull. So I smelled it to late, it was too close to run away and I would have to fight it, if I don’t we’ll both die. The problem is that Kyle saw me in my wolf form but still doesn’t know that was me, if he saw me change into a wolf now I don’t know what his reaction will be.
The thing came into the clearing where we were. We were downwind so he couldn’t smell me; if he had he wouldn’t have come near since my scent repulses them. Its eyes were almost black, it was thirsty.
“My, my. What do we have here.” He said, his speech had traces of an English accent. “Two tasty humans so far away from civilization.” I gulped and he smiled. “Do you know what I am beautiful?” I didn’t answer him but looked at Kyle, he had no idea in the danger we were in.
He slowly started edging away from the shadows, coming closer. Then the sun hit him and he sparkled like all leaches do. Kyle gasped. I had a few more seconds, if it caught my scent it would probably leave disgusted; if it didn’t smell me I would have to transform in front of Kyle, fight it, kill it and burn it, something scarring to watch.
