Somewhere in the Middle

An eleven year old Riley and Hayley held onto their parent’s hands crossing the street to get to their car. The twins climbed into the back of the car, and they started driving down the road. The twins were talking, when the sound of glass shattering and screams coming from the front seats broke them from their talk.

They both screamed out in shock when glass fell into their laps. The twins blacked out when the car flipped over.

The next day, Riley and Hayley woke up in the hospital.

“Where are mommy and daddy?” Hayley asked. Riley tilted her head, silently asking the same thing. The doctor sighed, and sat down on the foot of Riley’s bed.

“I’m sorry, but your parents were killed in the accident you two were in,” he said slowly.

Riley and Hayley looked at each other, and tears started to fall.
