Between a Little Piece of Heaven and the Danger Line

Psycho

Gena. That bitch. She had bruised my handsome boyfriend’s face. Zacky now had a huge dark purple mark on his face in the shape of a small hand. I could feel the anger just building up intensely inside of me and had Gena actually been here, she would have gotten a huge purple mark across her face too, courtesy of me.

“How come you let her do that?” I asked, trying to control my fury.

“You do realise I can get in jail for hitting a girl, don’t you?” Zacky retorted, leaning back into the couch. “If I could have fought with her, I would have. Trust me.”

“You really need to do something about her, dude,” Johnny piped up from the other side of me. “She’s crazy. You shouldn’t put up with that shit.” Zacky just shook his head, though I don’t know why. Why wouldn’t he want that burden off his shoulders?

“Get a restraining order,” Matt suggested as he stared at Zacky’s cheek.

“No, I’ll deal with it myself,” Zacky mumbled. “Can we get back to work on this new song? I really want to perfect that chord change.”

“You’ve already aced it, Zack. Come on, focus. Let’s talk about this seriously,” I said forcefully as Zacky started to busy himself on his guitar. I can’t believe he thought he could lie to another guitarist like that!

“It’s cool. Seriously. Just drop it, okay? All of you,” he said and I looked up at the other guys for support. I was kind of lost for words. “Actually, screw this. I need a smoke. Be back in five.” And with that, Zacky pushed himself up off the couch and walked out of the studio, grabbing his jacket on the way. I sighed and laid down on the couch on my back, taking up the whole thing while still having my feet off the edge.

“What the fuck is she thinking? Who slaps someone that hard?” I asked the ceiling, kind of talking to myself but still hoping that someone else would answer.

“He needs to get a restraining order. She has seriously lost it,” Matt stated in a gruff voice. “It’s the only thing he can do, really.”

“But he clearly didn’t see that as an option! How the hell does he think he’s gonna deal with it himself?” I continued, feeling a mixture of anger and distress. I cared so much for Zacky; I just wanted him to be happy and safe. End of story.

“Maybe you should go talk to him,” Johnny suggested as I rubbed my eyes and sighed.

“I doubt he’s gonna listen to me at the moment,” I groaned.

“Try,” Johnny said.

“Why?” I questioned, really not in the mood. All I wanted to do was punch something, like Gena. The last thing I needed was going out to talk to Zack and ending up punching him or the wall, which would be a stupid idea.

“Because... You love him, right?” Johnny continued and I sat up on the couch. Johnny looked like he was slightly uncertain about what he was saying, but I was so happy that he was saying it. He was showing even more acceptance.

“Yeah, I do love him...”

“So, go talk to him,” Johnny finished and I nodded my head, finally agreeing with the short man. I left the couch, grabbed my leather jacket and went out back where I knew I would find Zacky puffing away on a cigarette. Sure enough, he was there, his red hair giving me a slight fright. How could I have taken ten minutes before I noticed it earlier in the studio?

“Zacky...” I said as the door shut behind me.

“I don’t wanna talk about it,” he stated simply before raising the cigarette to his lips again. He inhaled a large breath before blowing out the smoke gently, the white gas making beautiful patterns as it moved upwards and away from him. Far out, everything he did was so beautiful...

“Zacky, I love you. Please hear me out,” I tried again. Conversations weren’t one of my strong points, but I had to try. They were necessary in successful relationships, and I wanted my relationship with Zacky to be successful, so I had to try.

“Fine.”

“You need to do something about Gena,” I said simply and Zacky shook his head.

“There’s nothing I can do, Bri. You think I haven’t tried everything already?” he exclaimed, still not looking at me, just staring blankly into the distance.

“Do what Matt suggested. Get a restraining order. She’s psycho, you have to get away from her,” I continued as I took a step towards him. I pried the cigarette from his tight grip and took a puff myself. I needed something to calm my nerves and anger. After I took that one breath, I passed it back to Zacky. “Please, Zacky... I know she calls you fat and probably worse as well, and you can’t put up with that. You really need to do something about it...”

“I don’t believe her anymore, I swear...” Zacky said, but he wasn’t that convincing.

“Would you get one for me?” I asked and Zacky finally turned to face me.

“For you? What good is it going to do for you?” he questioned silently, his voice suddenly calm.

“It would give me a happy, non-bruised, and therefore more handsome, Zacky,” I replied with a small smile.

“Is it really the best thing to do? I mean, I wanted to try talking to her again so I could perhaps knock some sense into her, or just putting up some more defence mechanisms,” Zacky said, kind of trailing off.

“No, I think you and her need to end now. You really should, Zack. If not for you, for me,” I said softly, trying to really encourage him to make the right decision. I don’t know how he’s put up with her bullshit for so long, but it really needs to stop.

“I’ll handle it myself, okay?” Zacky said as he put his cigarette out. He walked past me and went to grab the door handle, but I quickly moved into his path.

“Will you get a restraining order on her?” I demanded and he looked down at the ground. “Seriously, Zacky. Answer me.”

“Yeah, I will,” he growled in response before shoving past me and going back inside. This was my point. He changed after Gena had had a bashing at him. Zacky became so defensive and he shut me out. I didn’t want that. First his eating issue, and now Gena. Would his problems ever stop?
