Love Shows When It's There

It was a 'Jack Thing?' Was it seriously nothing else to him? Maybe I wasn't anything more than a friend to him. But what about all those times we'd flirted? Didn't they mean anything to him? Or was it all just a little game that he was playing to keep himself occupied? Did he even realize what he did to me?

I guess I'd just have to play along and hope for the best. Maybe Alex did care but was just hiding it. It wasn't like him to ever let others know if he liked them. He'd done that too many times prior and gotten hurt every time. But I could normally tell if he liked someone. This time, I couldn't. Maybe that's 'cause what he showed on the outside towards me changed every day.

Alex then suddenly excused himself and grabbed my arm, pulling me out with him. Then he shut the door. He'd obviously known something was wrong.
"What's wrong Jacky?" he asked softly.
"It's nothing," I muttered.
"Jack! What happened to that promise we made about never keep secrets from each other? I thought that was still valid," he told me.
"It is. But we made that when we were like nine," I replied.om,
"Doesn't matter what age! It's still valid," he exclaimed.
"Okay! Fine! I give up! I miss my mom," I said. It wasn't an exact lie, I did miss her.
"There's something else," he said. Then a look of realization lit up his face. "Is it what I said about it being a 'Jack Thing?'"
"No!" I realized I had answered too quickly and he knew it was.
"Why d'you care so much?" he asked curiously.
"I don't," I said, lying through my teeth.

"D'you like me Jack?" he asked.
"Of coarse I like you. You're like my best friend Alex," I said.
"No. I mean as in more than a friend?" he asked. I decided not to lie to him any more.
"Yeah, I do," I admitted. Suddenly, Alex's lips were on mine. Then he quickly pulled away.
"Good. I like you too, in that way," he said. A small smile played at his lips.
