“Welcome home, again,” Mike said opening the door for the door for me. I unwilling walked into his house and stood in the doorway awkwardly.
I didn’t feel like I belonged here, like I was fully welcomed.
“Is Jill here?” I asked heading to the kitchen.
“I not now,” he said.
“This time call her, you know, for a heads up”.
“Good point, but first! Let’s take you shopping. I’ve seen you in those clothes three times”.
I looked down at my clothes then back at Mike. “Alright, but I’m going to need a smoke”.
“Deal,” he said handing me a lighter.
“Thanks,” I said taking out a cigarette. “Let’s go.”
Mike smiled and followed me out the door after he locked up he headed to the car.
He drove us further into town towards the mall.
Mike and I hit almost ever store. I tried on almost everything that I liked and we bought about half of them.
“Hungry?” he asked after we got into the car.
I ran my fingers through my hair. “Sure…um…just not fast food.”
“Why not fast food?”
“It’s so bad for you,” I said putting my feet on the dashboard.
Mike gave me a weird look.
“What?” I asked. “I care about my body.”
“Right…” Mike said as he drove away.
“Where do we go to get healthy food?”
“Sushi?”
“Sure, it’s been a while since I had sushi”.
After a while of driving we pulled up into a parking lot for a little Japanese restaurant.
We walked into the restaurant and took a seat.
“This is nice,” Mike said sitting across from me. I forced a smiled as his phone rang.
He quickly reached into his pocket and grabbed his phone.
“Sorry,” he whispered to me.
I nodded my head as he slid out of the booth, “hey babe”.
I rolled my eyes and looked at the menu.
I deiced on two rolls and beef lo mein. Once Mike came back our waiter came.
I put in my order and Mike quickly through his together. After our waiter left Mike sighed.
“Sorry about that.”
“Jill called?”
“Yeah…she’s home and not too happy”.
“Naturally,” I said making a face.
“I know you don’t like her-”
“That’s an understatement”.
Mike sighed. “She’s nice when you get to know her.”
I rolled my eyes as our food came.
We eat quietly and quickly. Moments later we left the restaurant and headed to Mike’s house, where Jill would be waiting.
