It All Started At A Bar Chapter 5

“Maybe I should just wait out here,” I said once Mike pulled up to his house.
“You sure?”
“Oh yeah…” I said. “Better yet, I’ll just head down to the bar. I’m pretty sure I have a shift.”
“Okay… Should I drop you off?” Mike said starting up the car.
“Sure. Do I, like, owe you gas money?”
“No, it’s fine,” Mike said heading down the street.
In five minutes we were at the bar. “Thanks, don’t wait up, I’ll find a ride home,” I said getting out of the car. I closed the door before Mike could say anything. I quickly walked into the bar and get behind the counter.
“Hey Madison,” Dan said kissing me.
I smiled. “Hey, I plan on reading your book tonight.”
“Tell me what you think. Be completely honest.”
“I will,” I said walking towards a customer.
The bar was packed, tonight. I made over fifty dollars in tips, mostly from men who enjoyed looking at my breast instead of my eyes.
“So, how’s Mike?” Al asked, wiping the counter.
“He’s annoying. He’s so concerned about me all the time.”
“Shouldn’t you be more grateful? He’s taking you in when you have no place to go.”
I took a sip from my beer and rolled my eyes. “Are you trying to make me feel bad?”
“Is it working?”
I sighed. “A little…”
“Good,” he said walking away. “Oh, be here by six PM tomorrow”.
I sighed as Dan wrapped his arms around me and kissed my cheek. “What’s up?”
“I’m a bitch…”
He laughed. “What?”
“Nothing…It’s nothing. Can you give me a ride home?”
“Anything for a hot young thing, such as yourself.”
I smiled as we headed out the door.
“Later Al!” we called as he waved.
Dan drove me to Mike’s house and walked me to the front door. Mike left a note saying that the door was open for me.
“So…can I come inside?” he asked raising an eye brow.
I smiled. “I don’t see why not. Just be quiet.”
He smiled and followed me into the house. I locked the door and led Dan to my room.
******
The only reason why I got out of bed was because of the smell of bacon. I pull on my new robe that Mike bought me and headed down stairs.
“Morning,” Mike said as Jill stood up and brushed passed me.
“I don’t like her…” I muttered.
Mike handed me a plate before opening a bottle of beer.
“You know me so well,” I said sitting down. “Look, I want to thank you for…everything that you’ve done. Someone pointed out to me that I’ve been a little ungrateful and I’m sorry.”
“Wow, she has a heart.”
I rolled my eyes. “Yeah…who would have known?”
Mike chuckled. “No problem. My house is your house,” he left the room and began to consume my breakfast.
Mike and Jill left for work shortly afterwards. Mike told me he had a key made for me incase I wanted to leave the house.
After I took a shower I deiced to clean the house a little; my way of saying ‘thanks’.
Around lunch I made myself a sandwich and opened a can of beer. I eat outside so I could smoke. I didn’t want to upset Jill.
I went back inside to read Dan’s book and fell asleep.
“Hello?”
I quickly jumped up and looked at the doorway of the living room. Jill walked into the living room and looked at me.
“How was your nap?”
“Short…”
“Did you clean?” she asked looking around.
“Yeah, my way of saying ‘thank you’ for letting me stay here.”
“Oh…Well mention it.”
“What’s your problem with me anyway?”
“My problem is that you’re here! I see the way Mike looked at you when you first came. He hasn’t looked at me like that in years. You’re so beautiful and I love Mike and I’m not going to let some white trash bitch come between us.”
“So you’re insecure? That’s why you don’t like me?”
She rolled her eyes. “I’m so not jealous of you.”
I blinked. “You just said you were!”
“When?”
“It was implied!”
“Just stay out of my way and I’ll stay out of yours.”
“Whatever.” I said lying back down.
It was only five o’clock. I needed to kill an hour, but how?
I went upstairs and tried on my new clothes again. I choose an outfit to wear to the bar; that was guaranteed to get me tips, before putting my clothes away neatly. I finished getting ready for work then I headed down stairs.
Jill was watching T.V as she ate and detangled her ball of yarn.
I walked out the door and grabbed my key.
“Hey sexy!” I heard Dan yell as he pulled up to the house.
“Hey good looking,” I said walking over to him. I stepped into his car and he started to drive toward the bar.
“Thanks for picking me up,” I said smiling at him.
“No problem,” he said taking my hand.
“I started to read your book!” I said smiling.
“What do you think so far?”
“Not bad, I was really getting into it.”
“I’m glade.”
I smiled and looked out the window.
“Hungry?” he asked.
“I’ll eat at the bar,” I said lighting up a cigarette.
“Okay,” he said parking his car at the back of the bar. We walked into the dim light bar and joined Al and Sam behind the counter.
Around eight the place was full packed again. I was constantly moving from place to place.
“Hey Madison. Whoa!” Mike said once he saw me.
I raised an eyebrow. “You like, I’m guessing.”
“Yeah…um… a beer please,” he said checking me out.
“You have a girlfriend you know,” I said handing him a beer bottle.
“Yeah, we just had dinner. I just wanted to say hi.”
“When was the last time you told her that she was beautiful?”
“I called her sexy last night…”
“No, sexy doesn't count in a girl’s mind.”
“Then it’s been a while…” he said taking a sip of his beer.
“Tell her that when you go home, alright?”
“Why?”
“She needs to hear you say that…”
Mike nodded his head as Dan smacked my ass as he walked by. I smiled at him and winked.
“I should get back to work. I’ll find a way home.”
“Okay,” Mike said giving me a five.
“It’s on the house,” I said.
He smiled before getting up and walking out the bar.
