Wrong Place at the Wrong Time

Chapter 1

I check my watch as I walk through the silent streets of Chicago. It’s about time humans learn not to wander these mute streets.

“Well, well, well.” I heard a voice that always made me shiver in disgust. “Look who we have here.”

I turn around and instantly I’m face to face with grinning devil. A devil with his little hellhounds.

“William Beckett. In the flesh. Such an honor. Now please, I’m begging you.” I said stepping closer to him. “Go to hell.” I sigh and turn back around just to have my wrist grabbed by someone and to be pulled into their chest.

“It’s time you learn to respect the elder.” Someone hissed in my ear right as I rolled my eyes.

“And when are you going to learn not to disrespect the elder?” I said back as I twisted his arm so now we were facing each other. “Didn’t your precious little William tell you who really rules this town?” I said as I leaned closer to his ear. “William is young and foolish. I on the other hand will turn you into dust before you have time to say ‘oops’. Got it?”

“Stop tormenting my right hand man.” William said in annoyance.

“What? Are you scared of losing your title as the most powerful vampire? Well too late, you’re worthless.” I said as I let go of the young Dandy.

“I have a proposition.” William said as I fully turned to him.

“And why am I still here?”

“Join us. And you won’t be hurt. We will leave you alone as long as you fight on our side.” He said and I just laughed. This boy is so foolish. He’s far too young to have such power upon his shoulders.

“Why should I even consider this? You’re nothing to me. You lost your soul a long time ago. You will never be the same.”

“I’m still the same, we share blood. What else do you need than to be with your blood?” he answered and I shook my head.

“I’m sorry William, but I am going to have to decline your offer. I will never be a part of your sorry excuse of a clan.” I say as I turn around once again.

“Why? You’re all alone in this city. You have nowhere to go. You have no friends. No family. You’re all alone.”

“Well I’d rather be alone than on the wrong side of the fight.” I say and then turn around to face him. “You weren’t supposed to become who you are. I don’t know what happened. There is no way back. But remember, by leaving your creators beliefs behind you’re being the disrespectful now.” I say but his pale face is still emotionless.

“We are created to have a second chance in life. Every life chooses its own paths. And this is mine. And if you think my proposition through, you’ll know that the only place you belong in is us. The Dandies.” He said looking straight at me.

“Never.” I say and then step closer to him remembering one detail of our conversation “By the way William, you are absolutely right. I have no family.” I say and turn around to leave the street with unhuman speed.

I ran into the main street where the blood abuse usually occurs. I take out my stake and walk over to the closest clan that were surrounding poor humans. Where are the god damned hunters? I mean I can take care of this myself blindfolded but aren’t they the ones who build their reputation on being there before the trouble strikes.

Oh well, I guess I’m on my own today. I walk closer to the little crowd of punks and take them out one by one. They don’t even feel any pain. They never do. I’m not the one to make them suffer. No matter what the creature does in their life, I still don’t want them to feel any pain. It wasn’t their fault that they were turned. They never asked for it. They were just raised by the wrong crowd. They were just innocent bystanders who were accidentally bitten by some vampire who only thought of how to tame his bloodlust.

My thoughts were interrupted when I was sent flying into the nearby wall. Someone then grabbed my throat and took their stake out. I didn’t have time to act so I just used my mind control.

Let me go and stand back.

As soon as I was freed I lunged at my attacker. He didn’t have time to react or to fight back.

“Who are you?” I asked still having him pinned under me.

“Who are you?” he answered back.

“I asked first.” I insisted.

“I asked second.” At that I had to roll my eyes. By doing that I lost my focus for merely a second and now I was the one pinned to the ground with a stake about to go through my heart. “Well? Who the fuck are you?”

“I’m guessing you’re one of the hunters.” I said looking at him. He was a vampire. Holding a stake. I’ve heard that there were four hunters. One of them was, well in this case is, a vampire. It’s not as challenging to connect the dots. Especially under the pressure, both physical and mental.

“Your guess is correct, now that you know who I am, tell me who you are or I will turn you into dust.” He said through his teeth and I sighed. I guess it’s time to get it out my system. The knowledge that is.

“My name is Avery Lynn Beckett.” And the rest is history.
