Cosmic Love

Moving In

I can’t believe I just agreed to this. I stood on Damon’s doorstep waiting for him to answer the door. He was a vampire. It shouldn’t take him this long.

Finally the door swung open. But it wasn’t Damon who answered. It was the human they lived with. “Hello?” he questioned.

“Where’s Damon?” I asked impatiently.

“What do you want with Damon?”

“That’s my business. Not yours,” I said crossing my arms. His eyes traveled to the suitcase at my feet. One of his eyebrows raised in question. “Sorry, but there’s no room for anyone else to stay here.” He was about to shut the door when Damon suddenly appeared behind him.

“Sure there is, Zach,” he said casting a wicked grin his way.

“Damon, what are you doing?” asked Zach angrily.

“None of your concern. Now ask her to come in,” demanded Damon.

“Damon, you know you can’t compel me.”

“Yes, but I can still kill you. Don’t make me do it.” With a defeated sigh Zach turned to me at the door.

“Come in,” said Zach in a dull defeated voice.

“My pleasure,” I purred. I stepped through the threshold into the house. Zach had already left the room to go wherever. “He’s annoying,” I said frowning after him.

“He keeps people out,” Damon shrugged. “Let’s go to your room,” he said and started walking slowly through the house. I picked up my suitcase and followed him. After going up a staircase and a few turns in the upstairs hall we came to a door.

Opening it revealed a bedroom. It was quite spacious and very antique. I loved it instantly. It was better than all the modern junk that everybody had nowadays. “This is your room,” Damon told me. He then left without another word.

I walked inside and set my suitcase down. Then in a blur of movement I went around the room putting stuff away. It was all put away in ten seconds. I then blurred downstairs to where Damon lounged on the couch with a glass of liquor in hand. This glass was mixed with blood though.

“Want some?” offered Damon. I nodded feeling the ache of hunger in my jaw. Damon downed the rest of his drink before getting up. He poured himself and me another drink spiked with blood. I took a sip and loved the taste of it.

Then the door opened and Stefan walked in. “Damon,” he said angrily marching into the room. He froze once he saw my sitting in the chair opposite Damon. The look on his face was one of disbelief. “Emma,” he breathed.

I sat my glass down and got up. I walked towards where Stefan stood frozen in place. “Hello, Stefan,” I said bashfully.

“I thought you were dead,” he said in shock. He still couldn’t believe it.

“Obviously not,” said Damon interrupting the moment.

“How long have you known?” said Stefan angrily to Damon.

“Relax,” said Damon holding up his hands in surrender. “I haven’t been keeping secrets from you. I only just found out myself. Quite a surprise when you go to kill someone and they almost kill you.” He looked at me and I wondered if I imagined the look of respect I saw in his eyes.

“I’ll leave you two to catch up,” said Damon and waltzed out of the room.

“Emma,” said Stefan again. I turned to him and he wrapped me up in a hug. “It’s been so long. You should have told me you were still alive.” He pulled away but still held my arms like he was afraid that I would disappear.

“I couldn’t, Stefan. I was too ashamed of what I became. I was a monster. I didn’t want you to be disappointed in me. And after I let you think I was going to die… I just couldn’t face you like this.”

“Emma, I’m not ashamed of you,” he soothed. “I don’t blame you for giving in to the hunger.” He stroked my hair gently and I turned my head away. I couldn’t tell him what really happened. No one could know.

“What brings you back to Mystic Falls?” I asked Stefan changing the subject.

“Her name is Elena,” he told me. And I could see the light shine in his eyes. “I know the risk but I have to know her. She’s beautiful and caring and kind to everyone.”

“I think I’ve met her,” I said. “Isn’t she the one that looks just like Katherine?”
