She turns her eyes to his, narrowing them at his frowned lips. “What?” she questions. “What’s the matter?”
“Nothing,” he slips out softly, looking down into his water, wondering if maybe it isn’t water at all.
“Yeah?” she huffs, sipping her tea before leaving it to rest on the table. “Tell me.”
“Tell you what?” he doesn’t blink, focusing on the way to water ripples as he moves the cup slowly from one hand to another. “Is there something to tell?” he looks up at her then, his eyes not being able to see her quite right.
“Yeah,” she doesn’t break their locked gaze. “Did something happen at work?”
“No,” he grins. “I didn’t go to work.”
“Oh,” she frowns. “But you left this morning, dressed for work.”
“Yeah,” he drags out his word. “Yeah I didn’t go though.”
“Why not?”
“I didn’t feel like it,” he mumbles, poking at his palms. “I didn’t feel like it.”
“Why? What happened?”
“Nothing. Nothing happened.”
“Collin!”
“Stop it, shut up!’ he yells, standing up. “Nothing happened, just let it go!”
“No!” She yells, mimicking his actions and standing up with him. “What’s wrong with you?!”
