Carvings in the Ice

Aftereffects

That night, Jonathan lay in bed, once again awake, but for a different reason.
He couldn't stop thinking about her. She'd kissed him. She'd KISSED him- not the other way around, not him initiating, even though he'd done something daring, touching her face like that. Something he'd been imagining for a while now, finally come to fruition... and afterwards, the kisses that followed, her lithe, solid, curvy body pressed to his, her hair tickling his collarbone, every touch of her soft lips sending a new thrill down his spine. She was mesmerizing.
As Mike snored in the bed beside his, Jonathan smiled to himself, replaying the time between them over and over, like a tape that would never wear thin. He replayed it until he'd memorized every moment, the slight squint of her eyes when she smiled, the way one lock of hair curled in front of her face so perfectly. The first kiss- tentative- then the second, stronger, and the third powerful enough to crack the glass above the boards. He felt his eyes grow heavy, and as they closed, he could have sworn he could hear Annabelle laughing once again.

Annabelle had crept into the dorm room as quietly as she could, but Mirai apparently had no intention of letting her get to sleep. She'd scared the crap out of her in the darkened space, bolting up and asking, "So what happened? Did you guys hook up? Please tell me you hooked up. Oh my God. He is so cute. Tell me you did."
Anna put a hand to her fluttering chest. "Jesus, little one. Leave a light on if you're gonna do that, yeah?"
"Sorry." A lamp flickered on. Mirai blinked her eyes, smiling widely at her roommate. "Soooo???"
"So..."
"Oh, come ON. Don't leave me hanging."
"Fine, fine. We danced."
"Johnny told me that." Mirai pouted. "And?"
"....We kissed."
The teen's face brightened instantly. "You're KIDDING!! Oh my God!! I knew it, I just KNEW it, Johnny was all, 'Yeah, I bet you anything she's out there making out with him'-"
"Oh, Johnny said that, did he?" Mental note: Kick his ass next time I see him.
"Yeah, well... you didn't answer his text, and Evan was all grouchy, so..."
"Well, Evan needs to get over it." Annabelle pulled her top over her head and changed into her pajama tank top and pants. "I'm not going to hook up with him just so he can feel better. That's a pity date."
"Thanks for letting me know," Mirai grinned. Anna paused, then laughed, realizing how young she still was.
"Take it from me, chit-lin'. You don't want to give anyone a pity date... it's bad news for all parties involved." She stuffed her clothes into a laundry bag, then stretched out onto her bed. Ahhh.... relaxation. It almost felt as good as being in Jonathan's arms. Did she just think that?"
"You never told me how it was," Mirai murmured a few minutes later, after the room had gone dark.
"How what was?"
"The kiss," she yawned. "Was it good?"
"It was..." She paused, remembering. Jonathan's eyes had widened a bit as she leaned forward, then closed for the impact. His arms had gone around her, binding her closer. She'd felt a warm rush of pleasure as he deepened the next kiss between them, tilting his head and lightly probing her lips with his tongue. She'd opened her mouth, taking him into her, amazed with the power of it. They'd stayed like that for a while, locked in each other's arms, sharing kiss after kiss. Then, finally, they'd broken apart. Smiled. Noticed the time.
"Shit. I have to go," she said softly, not wanting to move.
"Me too. I should, anyway."
"I wish I didn't have to."
"Me either."
They fell silent, looking into each other's eyes and then laughing a little, awkwardness settling in. He leaned close to her once more, kissed her cheek and whispered in her ear, "Want me to walk you over?"
She did. And there was one more long, sweet kiss at the door, and she somehow found her bearings and got herself inside, willing herself not to look back at him.
"Anna?" Mirai whispered, on the verge of falling asleep. She came back to Earth. "How was it?"
"It was... perfect," she told her finally, and Mirai murmured something happy and unintelligible as she drifted off. It was only a slight exaggeration.
