Chapter 22

Analeigh’s POV

Walking into the house cautiously, I first went to the kitchen and found Mom sat there at the table reading the newspaper.

I bit my lip as I walked further into the room and cleared my throat to get her attention.

Mom’s head shot up and she stared at me for a moment before a small smile crossed her face. I let out a breath of relief and gave her a smile back.
“Hey there honey, what do you want for breakfast?” she asked, like nothing happened but I could hear the slight tremor in her voice.

I sighed and took a seat at the table in front of her. Looking at her steadily I asked
“are you going to act like this never happened?” her smile froze for a second before she got to her feet and started moving around trying to avoid answering, “Mom” I bit out harshly and she stopped, turning to face me. I could see she was still pissed about it as she ran a hand through her hair
“I just don’t see how you can be so ok with it after what happened in California!” she exclaimed.

I stared at her in shock for a moment before a giggle burst forth followed by more. Mom looked even more pissed as she growled
“what in the hell is so funny?!” she glared at me; I quietened my giggles and looked at her amused
“you’re worried because of what happened in Cali?” Mom nodded and I snorted again before smiling at her “Mom Paul wouldn’t do that to me, not only have we been friends since we were tots but because of the imprinting he actually can’t hurt me like that, it’s against his nature to and basically impossible” I could see Mom was still confused.

Steepling my fingers I thought a moment and tried to explain it better
“ok, umm, imagine the world without the sun, it would float all over the place and it would be so dark that you felt completely hopeless of ever seeing the light again. Now imagine that a sun came along and pulled us into its gravity field. You would be flooded with light and stable, you would finally have something to hold you in place and you would do anything to make sure that feeling didn’t go. That is what imprinting is like” I explained, trying to put it in a way that was way simpler than Leah explained it.

Mom stared at me a moment before asking hesitantly
“so he’s the earth and you’re the sun?” I nodded and smiled
“that’s exactly it, he would never want to do anything to lose his sun” I told her. She still didn’t look completely convinced but it seemed to be sinking in now.

She sighed and sat back down at the table, tracing patterns in the grain as she shook her head
“this is all just so much to take in, what did you do?” she asked me, I chuckled and shrugged
“I accepted it, Paul is my best friend and I trust him, you know the stories of the reservation, I can’t believe you freaked out this much over it” I teased her, she scowled
“you’re my baby girl, I’m going to get like that over you” I chuckled then looked towards the clock
“do you need me at the clinic today?” I asked.

Mom shook her head and smiled as she leaned forwards to pat my hand
“no darling, you have a shower and eat, I’m just going to get in the latest shipment of stock” I frowned
“well I can help with that, more hands make light work” I quoted, she laughed and nodded
“ok, get something to eat then we’ll head out” I grinned and got up walking to the fridge where I pulled out a yogurt and ate that quickly before I followed Mom out to the car and we drove to the clinic.

When the delivery guy arrived we all worked together to get the last few pieces of furniture and equipment out of the back of the van before he gave us a wave and drove off.

Mom left me in charge of sorting out the waiting room things while she went into her office to set up everything that she needed.

I got everything in a nice place (http://waitingroomproject.org/wp-content/gallery/bestof/pt-waiting-room.jpg) and smiled at how doctor like it looked. I glanced at the table and made a mental note to find some magazines to put there; there would have to be some mechanical ones because of the guys as well as some women’s ones which mainly occupied doctor’s waiting room tables.

Walking into Mom’s office I saw her un-wrapping the last few pieces of equipment. Knocking on the door to get her attention I smiled when she looked up at me
“do you mind if I go now?” I asked, Mom looked at me curiously
“what do have planned?” she asked, I shrugged
“I might go to Emily’s, the guys should all be there” I told her, she bit her lip but smiled
“ok, are you coming home?” she asked and I grinned
“I don’t know, I’ll ring you if I don’t ok?” she nodded and I gave her one more hug before heading out of the clinic and down towards Sam and Emily’s place.
