Vampires, Werewolves, and... Love? Oh My!

Emma Jones

I was really glad that I didn’t have to wear a tutu. I rented a ballet outfit from the costume store complete with the pink tutu, a red sequenced top, and black tights. The look on Jakes face when I showed him was completely priceless. He grumbled and complained the whole time while I was laughing my ass off so much that I couldn’t even breathe. Jacob's picture was up in no time on my MySpace page. In a matter of minutes I already was getting a buttload of comments. I was lounging in my room messaging people that had commented when my phone started to buzz.
"Yeah?" I said, bored.
"Hey, Liz. Just saw that pic on MySpace. Who's the hunk?" My second best friend from Phoenix said from the other end. Emma Jones was a stick thin but muscled, five-foot-four girl. Her caramel-colored hair fell to her shoulder blades with side bangs just past her almond shaped, sapphire blue eyes. She had a few freckles that cross her button nose. Emma didn't care what people think and can kinda be described as a bitch. She was friends with both Bella and me, but closer to me because neither of us are heaven-bound.
"His name's Jacob. He lost a bet with me so that picture had to go on the internet."
"Sweet. But if I were you, I'd have had him wearing a little less. Like just the tights."
"Ew. I see him shirtless enough, thank you."
"Really?" She sounded excited. Crap. "What have you two been up to?"
"Nothing."
She gasped in shock. "You mean you haven't done him yet? Are you sure you're Liz?"
I rolled my eyes. "Positive. Jacob's an annoying pain in my ass and I really don't even like him. But, anyway, what have you been up to lately?"
"Nothing. I'm just in a cab right now. I was calling to see where you live. Are you really in Forks, Washington with your dad?"
"Unfortunately." I heard a car drive up but didn't want to look out the window.
"The same address you gave me freshman year when we were planning on running away?"
"Yes. Why?" The doorbell rang. "Em? I'm gonna have to call you back."
I trudged down the stairs. This had better be good. I yanked open the door with unnecessary force. Standing on the porch was Emma with two bags and a huge grin. We both screamed so loud I'm surprised glass didn't shatter.
"Em! What the fuck are you doing here? I thought you were in New York."
She shrugged. "I was bored so I decided to come visit you. I called your mom and she said that you had moved here. I jumped on a plane last night so I could come see you.”
“What about your uncle?” Emma's parents had both been doctors at Mercy Hospital back home. They had died in a shooting sophomore year and she had to move to New York with her Uncle Casey Jones. I’d moved to Jacksonville with my mom only a month later.
“I called Casey from the cab right before I called you. He’s plenty pissed but whatever.”
I laughed. I loved my Emma. She was totally awesome to just go fly from NYC to visit. "Too cool. This is going to be awesome. Just like old times, right?"
"Yep. Where's Bella?"
"With her boyfriend."
Em's jaw dropped to the floor and her sapphire eyes widened. "Your sister has a boyfriend?" she asked in shock. "Are we talking about the same Isabella Marie Swan? No way! Are you frickin' serious? Damn. I thought that girl would be a nun for sure."
I laughed. "Me too. But yeah. Her boyfriend is really hot, actually. And rich, sweet, smart, protective. He's perfect for her."
"Sound like someone's crushing on her sister's B-F," she teased.
"What? Oh, hell no. He bugs the shit out of me and is totally not my type." I hit her with a pillow. I changed the subject. "So I saw Jerry Smith last night."
"Really? Uh, he is so hot. Where did you see him at?"
"Seattle. A few of us went up there for the ASU- Washington game. Jerry was playing and made the winning shot. That's why Jacob had to wear the tutu."
She laughed. We sat together watching the TMNT cartoon for a little bit until the phone rang. Yes, we were badass bitches watching cartoons.
"Hello?" I said into the phone
"Lizzy? Hi, it's Alice. We were wondering if you wanted to come over for dinner. Then us girls can do something fun."
"Um, sorry, Alice. I actually have company. Maybe some other time?"
"Sure. That sounds great." Yeah, right. I’m pretty sure that the Cullens ate less than I did.
I had barely hung up when my cell started to vibrate. "What?" I snapped.
"Lizzy, it's Mom." She sounded upset. "Jace's step mother called. There's something you should know."
I could feel my heart start racing. "What is it, Mom?"
"He-he's missing. He's been gone since about last Friday. They were wondering if maybe he's contacted you."
"No," I choked out, "I haven't heard from him. Wait, I did get a text from him last Friday but it didn't make any sense. I deleted it and I don't remember it."
"Okay, honey. I'll call if anything changes."
"Thanks, Mom."
Tears were starting to run down my face. Sure, Jace wasn’t really one of the most important people, but it was still scary to hear that your boyfriend is missing. Em pulled me into her arms and let me cry on her shoulder for a minute. "I think we both need a little pick me up. Come on, Liz. Let's go outside."
Em grabbed her black backpack that she hauled with her everywhere and we both walked into the woods behind my house. We didn't stop until we were a quarter mile in. A canopy of green covered over us so the ground wasn't as wet as I'd thought it would be. Emma pulled out a large bottle of hypnotic from her bag and unscrewed the top.
"You know I love you, right?" I joked.
She smirked. "Of course you do. Now let's just relax and have a good time."
We were pretty tipsy within forty-five minutes. We weren't slurring our words yet, but we were rambling pretty bad. "Remember Sarah Harper? That one time we scared her so bad she nearly pissed her pants?"
"Yeah, yeah. She was talking shit about Bells so we cornered her after school and said that we were witches."
"And we needed her blood for a spell. Then you pulled out your knife and held it up to her throat."
"Said I was gonna drain her dry. She started crying so hard. That was so funny. That'll teach her to talk shit about my twin."
We both laughed. "Hey, I met a guy in New York," she said randomly.
"Cool. Have you lost it yet?"
"No"
"Too bad."
I burped loudly. It was fun getting drunk and acting like an idiot with Emma. “Ya know, maybe Jace just ran away. His stepmom was a fucking creeper. She was so weird. And she had the freakiest eyes!”
Emma laughed. She pulled out her pocket knife from her backpack and rolled up her sleeve. The blade pierced through and there was a hissing sound that followed. But Em wasn't the one hissing. A man stepped out of the bushes and was hissing like a snake. His eyes were glowing red and his skin was pale. By one look I knew that he was bad news. All I could thing was Oh. Shit.

*JACOB'S POV*
Embry, Quil, and I were running patrol near Lizzy's house. Embry had caught a strange vampire's scent and we were trying to follow it before it was too late. I really didn't like the trail was taking us so close to the Swan's house. Hopefully Bella and Lizzy weren't home. They were probably at the Cullen's.
*Will you stop worrying?* Quil thought. *Everything's going to be fine.*
*What if the scent was heading towards Claire's house. Would you be calm or a nervous wreck?*
*You've got me there,*
he admitted.
It was Embry's turn to put his opinion. *I still don't see why you're worried. Lizzy's a big girl that can take care of herself. I don't think she'd want you to protect her anyway. She's not really the type of girl anyone would WANT to protect.*
I growled. *She's my goddamn imprint so you'd better shut up, Embry. I'm not going to let her get hurt.*
*Okay. Sorry. Hey! Do you guys smell that? We're close*

He was right. The vampire scent was nearby but it was mingled with two human ones. One of those was Liz. Oh. Shit. I started running even faster.

*LIZZY'S POV*
This guy was seriously creepy. I moved closer to Emma as he eyed her hungrily. If he was planning on raping her, he'd have to get through me first. The man was circling us slowly but I kept my eyes fixed on him, not trusting him behind me.
"You know, it's not wise to be wondering around alone. Especially when you both smell so delicious," he said.
"I don't think that was a compliment," I retorted.
"Oh, it was. Especially you. Just be lucky that you aren't the one bleeding or I wouldn't be able to contain myself."
There was growling and three giant wolves emerged. One of them looked like the russet one from my dream the other night. They were all growling at the man. They didn't seem to pay attention to Em and me, but I was still terrified. I wasn't sure if I wouldn't rather take my chances with the creepy guy. Emma's eyes fluttered closed and she became unconscious.
More rustling and Bella and Edward also appeared from the bushes. "Lizzy!" Bella cried.
Edward was glaring at the man, whose eyes were now wide in fear. They flickered to Bella and I saw recognition.
The wolves were coming closer. "Nice doggy," I muttered, fear thick in my voice.
"Lizzy. Don't be scared of them. The wolves won't hurt you," Bella said reassuringly. "They just want to protect you."
Two of the wolves pounced at the man and I let out a scream. The man began running quicker than lightning with the two trailing behind. Edward sighed and took off after him so quick it was a complete blur.
"Jacob, maybe now you should tell her," Bella sighed.
The wolf looked at her and nodded. Wait, what the hell?! In less than a second, Jacob stood completely naked where the wolf had been. He looked sad and anxious, as if my opinion was all that mattered. My eyes were bulging out of my head as I stared at him in shock. *Holy crap,* I thought as I blacked out.
