Don't Worry, I Fight Dirty

"How much fucking longer?" I complained to Katie. She was sitting in a chair getting her hair dyed.

"I don't know. Why don't you shut up for two seconds?" She joked.

I groaned, and I sat down on one of the waiting couches.

"Stupid hair dye." I grumbled. "We've been here almost an hour, you know that right."

"Stop complaining, Alex."

I could practically see her rolling her eyes at me.

"What are you getting done to your hair anyway?"

"Just my roots, damn."

"Okay, my hair is dyed. Roots don't take that long."

"It does when your roots are natural blonde."

"Ugh." I groaned again, resting into the couch.

Then the door swung open, and a brunette girl rushed in.

"Sorry I'm so late!" She called.

I brought up my eyes to look at her.

It was Kara.

"It's fine. Just start getting people." The woman behind the counter replied.

Kara nodded and went behind the counter too. She started to call names. She didn't even see us there. It wasn't five minutes later that I decided to stand back up. I walked over to where Katie was getting her hair blow dryed and the hair dresser had out the flat iron.

"What are you doing, Alex?" She asked me.

"Kara's here." I replied in almost a whisper.

Her eyes grew wider.

"Really?"

"No." I stated sarcastically. "Yes! Damn..."

Katie rolled her eyes.

"Boyfriend?" The hair dresser asked.

"No, more like gay best friend." Katie replied.

I felt my mouth drop as the hair dresser looked at me.

"That explains a lot."

Katie giggled.

"What the fuck?!" I threw up my hands. "I'm not gay."

"Ooh, Alex, it's okay to admit it now. You have been married to Jack for like five years."

I rolled my eyes.

"Katelyn." I groaned.

She only smirked and then ignored me until her hair was done ten minutes later. Katie went to the counter to pay, where Kara was at.

"Kara?" Katie asked slowly.

Kara looked up, and studied the black hair girl for a few moments.

"Yeah..."

"It's Katelyn." She smiled at Kara.

"Oh my gosh!!" Kara giggled. "How have you been?!"

"I've been better." Katie laughed.

"I heard that you were getting married to some guy named Mason. When is the wedding?"

"Yesterday, and I ran out on him." Katie smiled a semi-sad smile. "I found out he was fucking his best girl friend behind my back."

Kara nodded, finally seeing me.

"What about Mr. Gaskarth over there?"

Katie shrugged.

"What about him?"

"You guys back together?"

"No." I replied. "We're just the best of friends." I stated as I threw my arm around Katie's shoulders like I used to do in high school.

"For sure..." Katie trailed off.

The obviously thought that I didn't hear it.

Kara knew that I did/

"Well, I better let you two go." She laughed after Katie paid for her hair do.

"Call me some time." Katie stated. "You're still friends with Lisa, right?"

She nodded.

"Just hung out the other day actually." She laughed.

"She has my number. You can get it from her, okay?"

"Okay. Bye guys." Kara waved.

"Bye." Katie and I called in unison.

We walked about five minutes in silence.

"Kaite?"

"Yeah, Alex?"

"What was that?"

"What are you talking about, Alex?" She laughed.

"Back there. You didn't seem so sure..."

"About what?"

"Us...being just friends."

"Friends don't fuck, Alex." Katie sighed heavily. "So we aren't exactly friends..."

"But I don't want to be just friends." I knew I sounded whinny, but I didn't care.

She stopped and turned to look at me.

"Alex, I'm not going to be your fuck buddy. You realize that right?"

I understood completely, but that wasn't what I was saying at all.

"Katie, listen to me." I stated. "I want to be with you."

A smile tugged on her lips.

"You know that I'm crazy about you." I asked her. "I'll beg if I have too." Katie was silent as she stared at me. "Please say something." I whispered as I moved a strand of freshly dyed hair from her gorgeous face.

"Alex..." She smiled at me sadly.

"Can't you just take a chance on me?" I asked her. "I want to be with you."

Katie didn't answer me.

I was freaking out on the inside.

Then she kissed me.

I knew I had my answer.
