'Safe' Is Not A Word In My Vocabulary

Chapter 32

A week later and my cast was gone, it felt good being able to walk again. I’d pretty much gone crazy this past week, and Jacob wasn’t helping the cause. He all but chained me to the couch like Leah wanted to, and he was just as relieved as I why for the end.

I had already told everyone I was pregnant, thanks to Jacob’s constant begging, and the person probably most upset was Bella.

She was angry about it, but I didn’t know exactly why. I think she might’ve been in shock. Whatever, she can deal with it; I have more important things to worry about right now.

Carlisle got the temporary plaster off and Jacob played with my hair the whole time. After it was gone, I had to have my sonogram and I was twitchy.

Carlisle told me to relax and spread that freezing gel stuff on my stomach; it nearly matched the temperature of his skin, maybe one or two degrees difference and I shivered.

“There,” he said calmly pointing to the little monitor and the baby I could clearly see on it. Jacob smiled and stroked my hair with his thumb.

“Congratulations it’s a boy,” Carlisle said smiling. I grinned and Jacob pecked my forehead.

He wiped the gel off and gave us a picture. I looked down at it and Jacob was quiet beside me. I looked up to see him grinning huge. I’d had time to get used to the idea of a parent, it was just hitting him.

I stood on my tip toes and kissed him.

“I love you,” I whispered, smiling, finally able to admit it out loud. Shock flitted across his face before a huge smile broke out.

I already knew how he felt, he didn’t need to say it back but for some reason he did anyways before he kissed me again. “I love you too,”

The next few months had their ups and downs.

The morning sickness was a pain, and so was my stomach. It had gone from a small bump to a dome in such a small amount of time...

It was driving me crazy not being able to see my feet.

Alice and Bree had maternity clothes for me in my closet and it was a sweet thing for them to do.

Bree was around a lot, much to Jacob’s disappointment, and she was a very sunny person without a sword hanging over her head.

Damien and K-9 moved out, and Jacob surprisingly moved in permanently. He got off patrols so he could help me with the pregnancy most days, despite my protests so of course whenever I came around Paul wouldn’t let anyone hear the end of it.

Also despite my protests, Alice was planning a baby shower. They wanted to have it before Bella and Edwards wedding, well just Edward’s wedding, Bella was still mad at Alice for suckering her into it, and I eventually gave up and let her have her fun. Kim and Leah were around a lot too, teasing me constantly but that was okay.

Leah imprinted.

Yeah, shocking I know, but not really. As much time as she was spending around here she was bound to run into K-9. Love at first sight really works for them, and they’re going to Edward’s wedding together.

Damien changed Ammo and Crusher about a month ago. I didn’t get to watch but I was ‘there in spirit’ as K-9 said.

It was all basically smooth sailing since Jed died and Jacob constantly at my side.

“I can’t believe your making me do this,” I whined to Alice. She just smirked and flitted around the Cullen’s home ‘tidying up’.

Bree had hung a huge sign that said ‘congrats it’s a boy’ at the foot of the stairs and I thought I’d die.

“How many times did I tell you I don’t want a baby shower?” I whined again, knowing they’d ignore me. I was right.

I sighed exhaustedly later in the day and Kim rubbed my back. Leah was sitting off to the side, wrinkling her nose and pouting. K-9 rubbed her knee soothingly while light banter went on around us.

Bella was glaring at the wall. I wondered briefly why she was even here.

Hell, why was I even here?

Edward chuckled and I stuck my tongue at him. They had me unwrapping each one of my presents in front of both the Cullen’s and the pack.

Jacob tossed me another gift; this one was from Emily and Sam.

It was four little outfits, so cute, each one a different color with little wolves on them. The girls cooed in union, vampires and werewolves getting along temporarily, I knew I should appreciate it, but I hated the attention.

Rosalie smiled bleakly from the love seat she shared with Emmett, and I had to blink back the shock for a second.

She was a bit nicer to me than usual, which creeped me out, but I managed to grin back at her.

I saw one from Paul and Embry, and one from Ammo and Crusher and something told me I wanted to open them somewhere else. I kicked them to the side when no one was looking.

I opened all the other presents, a bunch more outfits, accessories and such, a whole nursery from Alice and Bree that they were planning on building soon, and various unknowns.

After presents were done, the pack ate some of the cake and food Alice had gotten and I was able to escape.

“Freedom!” I cheered when I got out of the car at home. Jacob pecked my head while chuckling and went to grab the stuff from the trunk, which I had been able to fit into only four bags with my mad skills.

I walked up the stairs tiredly, Jacob easily overtaking me, getting the stuff inside and coming back down by the time I’d reached the door.

I giggled when he held the door open for me and collapsed on the couch. Jacob came and lifted me up slightly so he could slide in beneath me. I rested my head against his shoulder and he kissed up my neck.

“That was awful,” I grumbled he laughed and said “I know, but it’s over now.” I was comforted at the thought and he traced patterns on my arm.

“I noticed you didn’t open some of the presents,” he said casually, curiously; I laughed.

“Yeah, well, they were from Paul, Embry, Ammo and Crusher and there’s no way any of them would ever set foot in a store that would be appropriate for a baby shower. They’re presents are probably more like for after the baby’s here.” I said, half babbling, half giggling.

Jacob stiffened beneath me and looked back towards where he’d put the presents with a raised eyebrow. I giggled again and elbowed him.

“If you want to open them, go ahead, but Im not watching.” I said while Jacob got out from underneath me and strode over to the bags. I turned on the TV and tried to ignore him.

I knew my friends well enough to know there were sex toys in there.

I was right apparently because Jacob was laughing again. I felt myself join in and added and “I told you!” giggling making it strained.

“Remind me to thank them,” He said, only half joking and appearing next to me a second later. He had already put the things away apparently and I rolled my eyes and punched him.

“Perv,” I muttered.

Jake drove us to the Cullen’s about a month later for Edward’s wedding. We were early because I was maid of honor and he was best man, and Alice had our clothes. She was probably thinking I would’ve burned mine or something along those lines.

I crossed my arms over my chest. The baby, still yet to be named, squirmed inside me and I rubbed my stomach.

Jake looked over when we started driving through the Cullen’s massive drive and smiled. I looked up, “He’s a feisty little guy,” I said giggling when he moved again.

Jacob chuckled, “Wonder who he gets that from,” he grumbled. I stuck my tongue at him and he pulled up to the garage. He had the car parked and was over to my side of the car as soon as I unbuckled.

He helped me out and I rolled my eyes. He’d been doing that a lot lately. “Cent!” Alice sang her and Bree dancing out of the house; the latter grinned at me and took my hand out of Jacob’s causing him to glare a little.

I smiled reassuringly at him and Alice told him where he could find his stuff. Bree started walking away but I stood on my tip toes and kissed him.

She sighed and let me before Alice stepped between us. Jacob didn’t get angry this time but rolled his eyes and walked in.

The girls led me the other way and I giggled at their business like expressions.

“That’s enough, isn’t that how this happened in the first place?” Bree teased poking my stomach, I rolled my eyes at her and let Alice drag me to her closet.

I got into the dress that had been expanded to fit my stomach before going across to Alice’s bathroom.

Bella had just arrived and she was shaking without her realizing. I came in and she smiled a genuine smile at me, something that hadn’t happened for a while. Must be the nerves.

“Ready to get married Bella?” I said while helping the girls get her ready she laughed shakily and said “No,” I giggled and Alice and Bree did too.

We helped her get ready and then I had to take my spot downstairs. Jacob came, literally out of nowhere and wrapped his arms around me. I turned and kissed him, making Emmett gag when he walked in.

I didn’t care; I was in a good mood right now.

Edward came in, looking nervous, his eyes searched around the room, his pale hand lightly touching each of the garlands as if he had to be sure they were real.

I laughed and went up to hug him. He did the same, being careful of my stomach and Jacob clapped him on the back.

“Congrats man,” he said, watching me from the corner of his eye. Edward laughed nervously. “Don’t say that yet, she could still change her mind,”

I slapped him at the pessimistic attitude. “She won’t, you’re just having wedding day jitters, happens to everyone.” He grinned at me, looking briefly at Jacob and then back.

“And you know this because…?” he prompted causing me to roll my eyes, “Because I was a wedding planner in a past life,” I said sarcastically, making Jacob chuckle. Edward thawed out and grinned. “Okay, I will try to relax, no promises though.”

I grinned. “That’s all I’m asking for,”

People started to file in, a few members of the pack who were close enough to Bella, Billy, some friends from school who I ignored when they looked at my stomach, Bella’s dad giving me a look like he was having a seizure, Alice had him upstairs and me and Jacob both grinned.

The Cullen’s were there, obviously, and of course the Denali coven, minus one and plus two. Irina was nowhere to be found, and the new members of the coven were mingling with each other, to preoccupied with themselves to notice much.

The ceremony started, and Jacob had his arms round me the whole time earning us weird looks, because of my stomach but I didn’t care. Bella and Edward had this lovey dovey look on both their faces that nearly made me sick.

They said their “I do’s,” and kissed for a little longer than necessary, causing people to snicker and Bella to blush.

I glared at the snickers’ and they shut up, while everyone clapped. Jacob laughed throatily in my ear and I elbowed him while Bella hugged both of us.

We were the last to be hugged apparently, cause’ Alice had them outside in record time. Jacob and I were the last out and I saw Charlie hissing frantically to Billy a while away. Billy was just chuckling and nodding and it didn’t take a genius to know they were talking about me.

Jacob ignored them and led me out into the edge of the Cullen’s yard. He pecked my forehead and we watched our friends and pack mates dance around us.
