Family Ties

Is this the end of the beginning... Or the beginning of the end?

“It worked”

“What did you expect? Nothing could separate us. Not even that little golden eyed bitch”

“Indeed” … “She didn’t fit in here anyway”

“Hmmm” The snide voice scoffed, “She’s still on his mind though”

“Yeah…”

“You shouldn’t have given him the clip”

“I’m sorry… I thought it would show him that she was finished with him”

A hiss ripped through the darkened room, “Well obviously it didn’t”

“… I’m sorry Lauren” The voice replied timidly,

“Honestly Jane… I expected more from you” Deadly red hues glared at the shy retreated figure of the young blonde. “The original plan failed, he’s still hung up on her” … “WHY DOES HE CARE ABOUT HER!?” she bellowed slamming her fist into the wall, the brick crumbling.

“He’ll never betray the Volturi for her”

“I know… Abigail Cullen is now a wanted vampire along with ‘innocent’ Oliver… Those two deserve each other… They’re worse than wolves”

Jane let out a shy laugh, hiding the hurt she felt inside, she’d never intended for this, every time she looked at Alec he looked paler, less alive. His skin was a translucent yellow; red eyes dead behind the drooping eyelashes and dark circles surrounded his eyes. She’d only ever wanted to make him happy… she thought she was doing the right thing.

“Well, Aro hates them now” Jane offered,

“Father always was a good judge of character” …

“Bitches” Abigail spat her eyes still closed as she sat on the comfortable cream sofa of the hotel suite, her dark denim jean legs crossed over each other.

“What is it?” Oliver asked his eyes glinting with amusement, as he entered the hotel room. It seemed years ago that he rescued Abigail in his masquerade suit, now he just wore black khaki trousers and a loose grey top with a hood on the back.

Abigail opened her eyes, raising an eyebrow as she caught sight of Oliver’s mischievous eyes. “Jane and Lauren”

“You were looking into the future again?”

“It’s been a 6 months since the incident at Volterra, we haven’t done anything, Aro doesn’t strike me as the type to just let us drop off the radar” Abigail reasoned unemotionally as she stood up, “We’re officially wanted Vampires by the way” She added as an after thought, turning away from Oliver to gaze out of the window her lips pulled tightly together.

“About time” Oliver chuckled, though Abigail’s silence cut it short, “They were talking about him weren’t they?” He asked knowingly his eyes softening.

“It doesn’t even matter anymore” She sighed a growl bubbling at the back of her throat, she was sure Oliver had picked up on it.

“Hay” He uttered softly as he stood behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist and shoulders, “It’s going to hurt, I’m not going to lie, but he made his choice…”

“He sill has the clip” Abigail sighed as she tilted her head backwards, leaning against Oliver’s broad chest.

“Alec was always one to keep things” Oliver stated. Abigail bit her lip, when she heard that he still had the clip she couldn’t help but let a small slither of hope compassion slip back into her heart, she knew it was wrong, after everything he did; he took her heart and ripped it into thousands of tiny pieces. And then there was the Cullen’s they would have heard about what she did by now, Alice was a fortune cookie for God’ sake and Carlisle was still a good friend of Aro. She wanted so badly to have her father figure, Carlisle, to just hold and whisper that everything would be alright. But she could never go back there, she was wanted dead not alive, going to them would just but the Cullen’s under pressure. She knew for a fact that Aro had already called them personally, she’d seen it in a past vision.

“I miss them” Abigail admitted,

“You’re not talking about Alec now are you?” Oliver couldn’t help but notice her tense at the sound of his name. “Carlisle?”

“Yeah” Abigail nodded, her eyes intently watching the clueless people as they walked past the hotel room. They were currently in small town in North California, near the coast, caught up inside until the sun went down.

“It’s strange… the silence”

Oliver didn’t have anything to say in reply, all he could do was frown. He never intended to let her break this badly, he knew for her leaving Alec was going to be hard, she’d deluded herself into the relationship, he’d never imagined that the Cullens had that large an impression on her. Things would have to change if he was to get what he wanted.

“Come on” He planted a false smile on his face as he kissed her temple, “You need to get out”

“But the sun?” She pulled away from his arms, turning to face him.

“I’ll put my hands in my pockets and pull up my hood, we can even stick to alleyways until we get out of the city” He reassured, taking her hand gently and pulling her towards the door, “I’ve already left the money for the room at the desk anyway”

“Where are we moving onto?” Abigail asked curiously,

“Here, in Oregon” Oliver replied as he pulled a map from his back pocket, pointing to what looked to be a large lake.

“Creator Lake?” Abigail questioned,

“Yeah, I heard wind of some people there that I need to speak to” Oliver nodded, pocketing the map again.

“Who?” Abigail asked as Oliver turned to face the door.

“Old friends” He shrugged,

“How old?” She raised an eye brow with a hint of amusement.

“They were first vampires I befriended after being turned” He informed as he pulled his hood up upon entering the hall way,

“Old, old then” Abigail smirked as she closed the door behind her and joined him in the hall way. “What are their names?”

“You ask a lot of questions” Oliver chuckled,

“I’m curious person” Abigail chuckled, one thing she loved about talking to Oliver was the fact that his past was so much more detailed than hers, she could listen to it for decades and still only be a little way into the story… But more importantly, the more she delved into his past the less time she had to think about her own… No one wanted to go where she had been.

“Curiosity killed the cat” She shrugged,

“Thank god I’m not a cat then” … “So… Names?”

“Mariella and Nicolo” He replied as they exited the hotel, diving into an alley to the side, making their way towards the edge of the city.

“They Spanish?”

“Yeah” He nodded,

“They came to states a few decades ago now and migrate around a lot… They’re not vegetarians you see” Abigail nodded in understanding. “They’re still good people though”

“I believe you” She smiled as the pair reached the edge of the city and broke out into a run, trees passing them by as Oliver led Abigail north to Silver Lake…

“So what do you want from them?” Abby asked generally,

“Well Mariella still has some contacts within the Volturi… So information really, plus they’re more up to date on what’s happening around the vampires world that even the Volturi haven’t heard about yet, they can tell us which covens will rat us out if we go near them”

“So in other words, which ones to avoid” Abigail surmised.

“Exactly. You learn fast darling” He chuckled,

“Since when did I become your student?” She scoffed.

“Since you ran off with me… I need to teach you the ropes of how to live a life on the run” He smiled charmingly.

“Running would be the key lesson I assume?” She rolled her eyes.

“Curiosity killed the cat… Sarcasm will kill the vampire” He growled playfully.

“You couldn’t kill me” Abigail chuckled,

“Really?” He challenged as he stopped abruptly and gently pinned her to a tree, his hands firmly gripping the tops of her shoulder, his head lowered so it rested mere inches away from hers. Her lips froze about to say something yet paused as she caught the dangerous glint in his eye, it darted around the gold, dipping into the centre where his eyes were such a dark golden colour they looked brown. She inhaled a shaky breath from between her parted lips, her instinct to run rippling through her body sending her on edge, letting her feel something other than just emptiness. Moving her head backwards, away from his piercing eyes she found the feeling of adrenaline fade from her body leaving her with the empty shell she had to begin with. Planting her lips together again with determination, she ignored all internal message and lent forwards, straining her neck upwards to that her lips were by his ear.

“You’d miss me too much” She smirked, relishing in the intense feeling that shot itself side the side in her body. Oliver just let out a deep chuckled, pulling away from Abigail, an amused smile tugging on his lips.

“We should get going” He turned away, setting off into the woods.

Abigail stood there, leaning against the tree, her body slowly being drained of anything… everything, eyes following Oliver as he set off into the woods. She knew at that point that she needed that feeling again, it was a drug and she would do anything she needed to to get it again.
