Chapter 21
As I dabbed the blood away from his back, it brought back memories.
Her sobs filled the air as I was cleaning the blood from the ground. “I hate him.” I whispered under my breath.
This wasn’t an odd thing. I always clean up our blood. He’s a monster and he knows it. It’s his fault that we became depressed.
Ava was huddled against the wall, clutching her small 6-year-old legs to her chest. She felt vulnerable. I did too.
“I want to die.” Sobbed Ava. “Don’t say that.” I whispered, huddling up next to her. I laid my head down on hers and promised never to cry again.
He doesn’t deserve my tears.
I snapped back to reality and looked down at my wrists. They were decorated with scars, but a tight Joan’s leather jacket covered them.
“I stopped most of it.” I grinned, through the sore memory. “Are you okay?” He asked softly. I nodded my head and smiled.
A fake smile, but it was there. I’ve gotten pretty good at hiding my feelings. I’ve gotten so good at lying that it’s kind of scary.
Then I realized, I am lying to him. I’m not okay. He told me his secret…it’s time to tell him mine.
