Lust for Darkness

Broaden Your Minds

“Welcome, my children. In this room, you shall explore the noble art of Divination. In this room, you shall discover if you possess the Sight.” The professor stood up knocking the table, some of the room giggled immaturely as I sat straight listening to her, my mother was gifted in this area, but didn’t look half as crazy as this woman did with her wildly frizzy mousey brown hair and her huge glasses.

“Hello. I am Professor Trelawney. Together we shall cast ourselves into the future. This term, we’ll focus on Tasseomancy, the art of reading tea leaves. So please, take the cup of the person sitting opposite you.” Trelawney explained, I was sitting next to a girl from Ravenclaw, called Cho. She smiled at me as she taken the cup, I returned the smile and taken hers.

“What do you see? The truth lies buried like a sentence deep within a book, waiting to be read. But first, you must broaden your minds. First, you must look beyond.” Trelawney explained as I looked into the cup.

Seeing the signs of a lost love in the future.

“You boy. Is your grandmother quite well?” Trelawney asked Neville,
“I think so.” He replied,
“I wouldn’t be so sure of that. Give me the cup.” Trelawney spoke taking the cup off Dean and looking inside, “Oh… Pity.” She spoke then put it down, the boys quickly looked at it in confusion.

“Broaden your minds.” Trelawney walked around and then saw Ron and almost jumped in a fright, “Your aura is pulsing, dear. Are you in the beyond? I think you are.” Trelawney spoke,
“Sure.” Ron nodded,
“Look at the cup. Tell me what you see.” Trelawney hurried him on,
“Yeah. Harry’s got sort of a wonky cross. That’s trials and suffering. And that there could be the sun and that’s happiness. So you’re gonna suffer but you’re gonna be happy about it.” Ron explained looking through the book, my right eyebrow raised as Trelawney held her hand out.

“Give me the cup.” She whispered.

Looking briefly at it she jumped and thrown the cup back down jumping back.

“Oh, my dear boy. My dear… you have the Grim.” Trelawney spoke, I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and looked through the book.

“The Grin? What’s the Grin?” Seamus asked,
“Not the Grin, you idiot. The Grim. ‘Taking form of a giant spectral dog. It’s among the darkest omens in our world. It’s an omen of death” Bem spoke.

As we left the classroom Cho said goodbye to me and I waited for the others outside,
“Hey,” I smiled creeping up on Hermione as they walked out,
“Gave me a small jump there,” Hermione spoke,
“Sorry… think I could have a quick word with you all,” I spoke.

When we got to somewhere more secluded I sighed biting my lip wondering where to start.

“Well I’ll go straight to the point… Draco knows of my secret.” I spoke,
“What?” Hermione looked shocked, “How?” she added, I shrugged and sighed once more,
“His father probably found out, and told Draco.” Ron spoke, I shrugged once more,
“Whoever told him we’ve got to try and make sure he doesn’t tell anybody else,” I explained, “If people found out what I was and then told their parents… I would not be welcomed here any more…” I explained,
“Why not?” Harry asked,
“Dumbledore got me in here because he believed I was good… the Ministry are breathing down my neck every day… watching that if I slip up or if someone doesn’t want me here then I’m out of here…” I explained,
“That’s not right,” Hermione spoke, I nodded sadly and bowed my head down,
“We’ll just have to make sure Malfoy doesn’t tell,” Harry spoke, I looked at Harry with a small smile,
“Thank you,” I spoke.

These three people in front of me are the best thing that ever happened to me.
