What Friends Are For

A while later I headed off stage and started dancing with Hermione and Krum, other people were starting to dance with me also trying to get me to join their group.

Why?

Because my father was in a band and he was pretty famous in the wizarding world with his music.

A while later I stopped and stepped out the crowd to see Harry, Ron and their dates sitting on the side, I walked over to them smiling.

“Hey guys,” I smiled,
“Hey Mei, don’t you have a date?” Ron asked, I shook my head and tumbled around with my hands as I looked at them,
“Truth be told, nobody asked me,” I spoke looking between them both,
“Really?” Harry sounded surprised; I nodded, as Harry looked a bit upset,
“Anyway… my mum found out, then Dumbledore asked me to sing,” I smiled,
“Yea, you’ve got an amazing voice,” Harry smiled,
“Thank you,” my cheeks felt warm.

A boy from the Durmstrang came over and offered his hand to Harry’s date.
“May I have your arm?” he asked,
“Arm. Leg. I’m yours.” Parvati spoke and left with the man, my eyebrow raised as I looked at Harry. I sat down next to him and smiled at Hermione as she walked out with Krum.

Krum kissed her knuckles and walked off, Hermione spun around with a smile as she walked over.

“Hot, isn’t it?” Hermione asked, “Viktor’s gone to go and get drinks. Would you care to join us?” Hermione asked, I was just about to answer,
“No, we’d not care to join you and Viktor?” Ron snapped,
“What’s got your wand in a knot?” Hermione asked,
“He’s a Durmstrang. You’re fraternizing with the enemy.” Ron snapped,
“The enemy? Who was it wanting his autograph? Besides, the whole point of this tournament is international magical cooperation to make friends.” Hermione explained,
“I think he’s got a bit more than friendship on his mind.” Ron replied as Hermione stood up in shock.

I stood up with her, as she looked a bit upset,
“I’ll take care of the boys, just go have fun ok,” I whispered, Hermione nodded, her eyes glazed over she walked off back to Krum as I looked back at Ron with a small glare,
“Way to ruin the night for her Ron,” I spoke, Ron just looked at me for a second as I shook my head, “Look, you should have been quicker to ask her to the dance if you really like her so much,” I snapped, Ron rolled his eyes, “Boys are so difficult…” I muttered and glared at him.

I walked off outside of the room.

As I stood outside in the cold I looked out towards the sky.

“Want some company?” I looked around and saw Harry, I nodded with a smile as he stood next to me, “Aren’t you cold?” he asked, I looked at him with raised eyebrows,
“What am I Harry?” I asked,
“Oh, yea… sorry.” Harry nodded, “Still, it would be mean of me not to be a gentlemen,” Harry joked and put his jacket over my shoulders, I smiled as he wrapped it around me, “Suits you actually,” Harry joked,
“Yea, all I need now are spats and a top hat,” I smirked, Harry laughed as I held the jacket, “Thank you,” I smiled,
“You’re welcome,” Harry replied.

“Is it really true?” Harry asked,
“Is what true?” I looked at him,
“That nobody asked you to the dance?” Harry asked, I bit my lip and nodded.
“Spent the first hour crying upstairs to be honest,” I replied.

We stood there in silence…

Felt like a year.

“If I knew nobody had asked you… then I would of,” Harry spoke, I looked at him shocked,
“Really?” I asked, Harry nodded, “Do you think there’s still time for one more dance?” I asked him quietly, Harry looked at me with a small smile, he held out his hand as I smiled.

I softly placed my hand in his as Harry led me back to the Great Hall. I smiled at Hermione as she saw Harry and myself walk back to the dance floor.

The music started playing slow enough so we had to stay close, I smiled as I held onto Harry’s shoulders.

“Word of warning before we start moving…” I smirked, Harry looked at me confused, “Step on my feet and you’re dead,” I joked, Harry thought I was serious until I laughed, “Joking,” I smiled, Harry shook his head as he placed his hands at my waist.

We danced slowly together, randomly cracking jokes and laughing on the dance floor. Unlike the rest of those who were dancing around us, we were the loudest there.

Until we saw our best friends fighting with each other. We both stopped and followed them out of the room.
“Harry, I’ll take care of Hermione, you go after Ron,” I spoke, Harry nodded as I walked over to Hermione who was crying her eyes out on the stairs.

That night I comforted her strongly. And for most of the night I was sitting with her in the common room.

I didn’t mind though.

Because that’s what friends are for!
