"I have a what?"

Super Bass

I must have fallen asleep and heard my mom unlock my door and turn off my computer because when I woke up the next morning, my iTunes was off along with the entire computer. When I walked into the kitchen, I saw Mel, Drew, Stella, my dad, Jimmy, Zacky, Brian, Johnny, Lacey, Gena, Michelle, Leana, and my mom sitting talking quietly. All the quiet talk stopped when they all saw me standing there.

“Care to tell us why you were so upset last night?” my dad asked.

“Not really,” I replied grabbing a coffee mug and putting coffee into, “I just want to be left alone.”

“Drew told us you fought with Kyle,” Mel said and I looked up and stopped putting sugar in my coffee.

“Yeah we fought,” I said and continued to put another spoonful of sugar into the mug, “big deal all couples fight.”

“Then why did Kyle change his relationship status from in a relationship with Tegan Sanders to single?” Mel asked and then my father started.

“I’m kicking his ass,” he growled and I put a hand up.

“Yes we broke up,” I said, “No you will not, and three, I’m fine. I just need some me time.”

“Bull fucking shit,” Stella said and we all looked at her shocked, “You fucking heartbroken Tegan. I read it the moment you walked into this kitchen. We just want you to do something to get you back to the sarcastic Tegan because I sure as hell miss her already it’s really on been hours.”

“Give me an hour and meet me at the open-mic at the coffee place you guys took me to last week,” I said, “I’ll play a set there. I got a call from the owner and wanted me to sing there.”

Everyone nodded their heads and I went to go get ready. I showered and went to go get changed into my outfit. Once I changed, I blew dry my hair and straightened my hair. I put on minimal makeup and walked out to see my dad sitting at the kitchen table.

“You know it’s not the first time a guy’s stomped all over my heart,” I said sitting next to him.

“I know,” he sighed and pulled me closer to him, “I just don’t like seeing you hurt at all. It really kills me.”

“Thanks Dad,” I said and smiled lightly and kissed his cheek.

“For what?” he asked confused.

“Showing me you cared,” I smiled and we both stood up and I went to go get my acoustic guitar.

I then walked back into the kitchen and my dad and I drove to the coffee place. When I walked in, I saw everyone sitting in the back and smiled like crazy. I walked over to the owner and told him whenever he wanted me to sing I was ready. He grinned and got a mic set up immediately and told me to go on whenever. I nodded my head and sat down on the stool. There wasn’t a huge crowd but I was nervous none the less. I tuned up my acoustic and smiled at everyone.

“Hello fellow coffee, tea, and special coffee drinkers,” I said into the mic, “My name is Tegan Sanders and I’m here to entertain you with music. My first song is ‘Without You’ by Hinder.”

I sang the song and when I was done, I looked up to see Kyle walk in and I pretended like nothing was wrong. I then went into the next song which was “Keep Your Head Up” by Andy Grammer.

I've been waiting on the sunset
Bills on my mindset
I can get deny they’re getting high
Higher than my income
My income's breadcrumbs
I've been trying to survive

The glow that the sun gives
Right around sunset
Helps me realize
This is just a journey
Drop your worries
You are gonna turn out fine
Oh, you'll turn out fine
Fine, oh, you'll turn out fine

But you gotta keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh
You gotta keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh

I know it's hard, know it’s hard,
To remember sometimes,
But you gotta keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh.

I've got my hands in my pockets,
Kickin’ these rocks
Its kinda hard to watch this life go by.
I'm buyin in the skeptics,
Skeptics mess with, the confidence in my eyes

I'm seeing all the angles, starts to get tangled
I start to compromise
My life and the purpose
Is it all worth it,
Am I gonna turn out fine?
Oh, you'll turn out fine
Fine, oh, you'll turn out fine

But you gotta keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh
You gotta keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh

I know it's hard, know it’s hard,
To remember sometimes,
But you gotta keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh.

Only rainbows after rain
The sun will always come again.
It’s a circle, circling,
Around again, it comes around again

Only rainbows after rain
The sun will always come again
It’s a circle, circling,
Around again, it comes around,

But you gotta keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh
You gotta keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh

I know it's hard, know it’s hard
To remember sometimes,
But you gotta keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh

Keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh.
Keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down, eh.
Keep your head up, oh,
And you can let your hair down

I sang a couple of songs after that one and by the time I was done singing there was a giant crowd into the coffee shop.

“So I have time for one more song and this one is kind of personal in a way,” I grinned, “This one can’t be played by my guitar so I talked to Mr. Brooks and he is allowing me to sing this so if you know it sing along and if you don’t then you have been living under a rock.”

Mr. Brooks pushed play and “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj came on and I heard Jimmy getting excited.

When my gig was over, I had known two things. One I was healing and two I had a solid gig every week on Saturdays.
