The Beach

05-All my love will slowly fade and fall apart

“I always miss it here, and once I’m here, I always wonder why I ever leave.” Alex stated as him and Sawyer laid on a blanket in the sand in the middle of the empty beach, looking up at the stars in the sky.

Sawyer didn’t respond verbally, but nodded in response, because she completely understood what Alex was saying. Her two months in Virginia Beach was always the best part of her year. It had been that way since she was 17 and realized that she was in love with Alex. At 16, she had thought he was cute and awkward, but at 17, she had realized how much she had missed him over the course of the year, and how happy she was to see him again.

Alex loved being in Virginia Beach. Even with touring, he always managed to find some time during the summer to go and see Sawyer. He was drawn to her in a way he couldn’t quite understand, but he knew that she was important to him, and he lived for their time together on the beach every summer. When tours were being scheduled, he always made sure there was some sort of break, at least two weeks minimum, so him to travel to Virginia Beach and see Sawyer. It was a craving he had to satisfy. He was addicted to Sawyer in an unbelievable way, so much that he craved her and needed to get a fix every year.

“Virginia Beach is like the dream I get to live out once a year.” Sawyer finally replied. “It’s the real life I want to live, packed into two months. Everything back in California is so, real. Virginia Beach is like living the dream.”

Sawyer had a small smile on her face. She’d only been here two weeks, but she couldn’t help but smile. Virginia Beach was the life she wished she could live year round.

“It is like living a dream here, isn’t it?” Alex said thoughtfully, which caused Sawyer to chuckle and turn to face Alex, diverting her attention away from the night sky. Alex looked at her strangely as her laughter died, a smile remaining on her face. “What?”

“You do live the dream Alex. You’re in a famous band, touring not just the country, but the world, and playing the music you want to play. You spend your life working with your best friends and making girls weak in the knees at your voice. You have the dream Alex.” Sawyer said, trying not to let her jealousy overflow in her words, because she meant every word she said. He was lucky, he had a life to dream about.

“I guess that’s true, but you have a dream life too Sawyer. You can work from almost anywhere. You get this beautiful beach house to yourself every summer, where we get to spend time together. Then you get to go home to that boyfriend you tell me about every summer.” Alex said, trying not to let the venom in his mouth out at the word boyfriend.

“Fiancé” Sawyer replied with a whisper, and Alex looked confused at the blond laying next to him, who had returned her gaze back to the night sky.

“So you’re gonna get married?” Alex asked, and he couldn’t help but feel a bit hurt.

“This is my last summer here. We get married in October.” She replied somberly, not catching Alex’s eyes. “This is our last summer together. After this, I can’t come running here alone. If I come here, I’m gonna have to bring Jake.” She knew it was true, but it was so much harder telling Alex this than she had imagined. She wanted nothing more than for Alex to tell her no, for him to ask her to be his. She wanted him to want her like she wanted him so desperately.

“I understand.” Alex replied, leaning over and kissing Sawyer’s cheek, and in return she turned to look at him. “But can we just pretend like this isn’t gonna be the last summer here? Can’t it be like all the others for now? Can’t we just be together for this last summer?” He asked, because that’s what he truly wanted. He wanted to have Sawyer to himself, to not let her go. He wanted to pretend like this wasn’t the last summer with her.

“Of course.” She whispered back, leaning forward to kiss Alex’s lips lightly. “The Summer is always ours Alex. Always.” She responded before pressing her lips against his fiercely, rolling herself on top of Alex, never breaking their lip’s contact.

It was Alex who pulled away first, leaving both of them breathing heavily. They looked at each other, the love evident on both of their faces, though neither of them noticing it as anything other than lust. Their lust was strong, so overpowering, that it masked the love that the two shared for one another.

“Let’s go to bed” He said, his brown eyes twinkling even in the dark of the night. Sawyer smiled mischievously before standing up suddenly and running off back up the beach to the house, Alex stunned for a second before following the blond as though the last 20 minutes hadn’t even happened.

The two raced upstairs, Alex barely behind Sawyer.
