No One Knows You Like I Do

Madison lay in bed all day, watching movies and sleeping. She had no desire to do anything else. She was home alone, so she could be as loud as she wanted. She decided to go downstairs to make some coffee and something to eat. She cranked up her stereo and plugged in her ipod so she could jam while she cooked. She put on a pot of coffee and contemplated her meal options. She hummed along to the song playing before quickly realizing what it was. A Rocket to the Moon.
“Awesome.” She grumbled. “Way to make everything suck!” She walked over to change the song when the doorbell rang. She sighed and walked over to the door. Without checking to see who it was, she pulled open the door and became face to face with Nick.
“Even more awesome!” She threw her arms up to the sky. “What are you doing here?”
“You, uh, left your movie and I figured you’d be miserable without it.” He held out the DVD so Madison could see it. He stopped and listened to what was playing throughout her house and smiled a little. “Are you listening to…me?”
“First, you ruined that movie for me so you can keep it. Second, let’s not talk about how your stupid song came on shuffle while I was trying to stop thinking about you. I did not play it on purpose.” Nick’s smile faltered. He should have known.
“I’m sorry.”
“For ruining my favorite movie, your song coming on shuffle, or…”
“For everything. You know that.”
“If you were so sorry, it wouldn’t have happened in the first place.”
“Madison, please, I--” Madison held up her hand to make him stop.
“Stop, Nick. We’ve talked about this enough. I can’t do it anymore. It’s emotionally exhausting.”
“Okay.” He sighed and looked down at his shoes. “I’ll go, now.” He turned on his heel and headed back for his car. Madison walked back into her house and up the stairs. She hopped onto her bed and pulled back the curtain on her window. She watched Nick get into his car and sit there for a moment before starting the engine and driving off. She released the curtain and sat back against the wall. She closed her eyes as tears began to flood her vision. She wanted to stop thinking about him. She didn’t want to be in love with him anymore. It hurt too much, but she couldn’t do anything to stop the feelings or thoughts.

Nick pulled into his parking spot and slowly got out of his car. He dragged himself into his apartment and slumped onto the couch. He closed his eyes and covered his face with his hands. He let out a loud, frustrated sigh. He didn’t know what else to do. He just wanted Madison back in his arms and everything to be okay.
He got up; put Tower of Terror into the DVD played and laid back on the couch. He figured this was the closest thing to having Madison back. It was not the greatest idea, but at least it could get him to sleep for a little while.

“How are you doing?”
“I’m doing better, but I’m far from okay.”
“I’m sorry things ended up this way. It was really shitty and unfair to you.” Madison sighed with a shrug. “Let’s talk about something else. How, uh, did your night with Garrett go?” She smirked which caused Mackenzie to blush and look away.
“Madisoooooon.” She whined.
“C’mon! You have to me! Did you guys….?”
“Shhhh! My mom’s in the other room! She doesn’t know, okay?” Madison burst into laughter.
“Was it good?”
“It was very nice, okay? Now, let’s not talk about this either. No boyfriend or ex-boyfriend talk. Let’s go shopping or something.”
“Fiiine.” They got off Mackenzie’s bed and headed downstairs to Madison’s car.

Nick woke up and the movie was over. He didn’t know how long it had been over, but it had returned to the main menu. He sat up and rubbed his face. He looked at his phone and he had a couple text messages. He quickly responded before going to the kitchen and grabbing a water bottle. He really didn’t know what to do with himself. Everything just seemed so strange and empty without Madison. It would be really difficult getting used to.
