Inside Your Eyes

A Pinch of Jelousy

Months had passed. I had done a few more robbery jobs with The Joker, gaining a special relationship to the now Commissioner Gordon, and we had set Cordelia loose into Gotham again. Of course she did what she was told and went straight to Beadrix. Placing a bug on her, she was a living transmitter of information. My job, was of course to keep in contact with her via video chat. Beadrix wasn't the trusting type. Wearing a black wig and blue contacts, I would masquerade as Cordelia's cousin, Jen. She had cleared it with Beadrix that I would meet with her at Wayne Enterprises.

I let out a giant sigh and sat up out of bed, "Tonight's the night," Hard to believe this whole thing started because I randomly chose her as a captive. I shook my head Guess it's fate.

"How quickly can you do your makeup?" the Joker asked leaning over my shoulder.

"I've been practicing. Around ten minutes I guess. Why?"

"Tonight's when you make an appearance. I'd suggest you get it done before the media arrives."

"I got it," taking the black wig, I fastened it on my head, "How do I look?"

"Eh, I prefer your natural color."

"We all know what you prefer. I mean do I semi look like Cordelia?"

"I guess. A healthier version anyway," I couldn't deny him. The use of drugs had begun to take its toll on her body and face.

I got up and stood at the sink, popping in the colored contacts, "I do look different..."

"This is why when we get back all of it's coming off." His hand wrapped around my waist and he turned me around. I was about to lean up to kiss him, but Cordelia's ears must have been burning. My computer started ringing.

"I gotta get that," I trudged over to the computer and clicked 'Accept' "Hello?"

"Hey Jen, you still coming tonight?"

"Wouldn't miss it!" I played with my hair to make it seem as if I was the ditsy cousin I had been portrayed as.

"Ok, Drix says we're meeting in room 56 on the 20th floor. Oh, and bring your bracelets, I'm just dying to see what you got in India," Bracelets was the code word for guns.

Ok, that solves the question of whether or not there will be a lot of security there. "You bet! It was so nice there! The only problem was that it was hot and people seemed to take less care of themselves. Not a single woman I met had a descent moisturizing kit!" I feel brain cells dying...

"I have someone for you to meet," she got up from her chair and a man took her place, "This is The Drix."

"Oh, hello!" I waved to the camera.

"Hello Jen," he replied in a strong African accent, "Let me ask you something."

"Shoot."

"What brings you to Gotham?"

"To see my cousin of course. It's been years and I wanna see what she's been up to."

"You mean...you don't know her line of work?"

"Why would I? She always dodges the subject when I ask her."

He looked up at her and back at me, "So you're only coming to Wayne Enterprises because she invited you?"

Just play dumb... "Yes? Was I supposed to know something else?"

"No no, we welcome you. It is our pleasure to accept new comers into our business."

"You're not offering her a job are you?" Cordelia cut in.

He put up a hand to silence her, "She looks very innocent. No one would suspect," he looked back at me, "How would you feel about permanently living in Gotham. Your apartment and necessities would be paid for of course, you just have to do a little favor for us in return."

"I'm not sure, what would I have to do?" I don't blame Gerttie at all. This offer would be appealing to anybody, especially a high school girl on the rebound.

"Just deliver a few things to friends."

"Um...I'll think about it. I'm really here to see Cordelia."

"Well, the offer still stands if you change your mind."

"Drix!" a male voice yelled off camera.

"Excuse me, I have to go."

"Ok, nice meeting you!" I waved and watched Cordelia sit back in front of the computer, "Interesting...I got a job offer."

She seemed a little put off by this, "Don't get too excited. He does that to every innocent girl."

"I'm not excited. My allegiance is to Joker. Not this Drix character. I already told you, I'm not interested in drugs."

She scoffed, "I have to go prepare things," she hung up immediately.

I laughed, "I am so torn. As her family she should have at least said goodbye."
