I Don't Want To Walk This Earth If I Got To Do It Solo

Part 1

"No, no, no! That's all wrong! Do it again, lets go!"
"Wrong my ass. Do it again my ass." I mumbled under my breath. The music started playing so I did the same old routine over and over again. I knew I was doing it right, it was just the new girls that struggled but I wasn't going to criticize them for that since I was in their shoes seven years ago.

The piercing sound of that annoying whistle rang in my ears as I heard Maggie say, "Okay now that was better. Take a fifteen minute break."
I breathed a sigh of relief. Sometimes I wanted to wrap that damn whistle around Maggie's head but that wouldn't be very lady like as my grandmother always says.

I walked over to my bag and leaned against the cold wall drinking my refreshing water. I shut my eyes and tried to relax until I heard my name being called. "Hey Candice I was wondering if you could help me out on the routines?" I looked at the sixteen year old and smiled. "Sure Mary Lyn I can help you."
"Really? Great thanks." She said grinning brightly. I nodded as I watched her stretch.

"So like how long have you been here?" She asked.
"Since I was fifteen. I'm only gonna be in this class for one more year, then I'm going on to a pro college class." I said stretching my arms.
"Wow but aren't you 22? I can't imagine being here for seven years." She said surprised.
"Yeah but I like it here. It's a good program." I said, "Though I'm not to found of Maggie." I smiled.
"Yeah I know what you mean. Well honestly since your the oldest here besides Maggie, I think your the best dancer, better than Maggie."
I lightly laughed taking the complement. "Thanks, I don't know I guess I just love dancing. It's my life."

Which is very true. I've been dancing since I was three all thanks to my grandmother. She put me in ballerina classes to start because back in her day, she was a professional ballerina but once I turned thirteen, I started doing hip pop dancing. Ever since then I've been doing hip-pop or pop dancing.

Maggie was the instructor at D.C. Dance which is a program for girls to learn to dance. She and I never got along but if I wanted to get accepted into a professional dance school, then I had to work with her. My dream was to have my own dance crew and perform in front of people on stage but in order to get there I had to start here.

"How about tomorrow at 3 I can help you?" I asked Mary Lyn.
"Sure that works for me. I'll text you my address when class is over." She said nodding her head to the rest of the class.

Mary Lyn had become like a sister to me over the past few months she'd been here. I liked that since I never had a sister, only a brother who I don't even see anymore.

I took my last gulp of water as I heard the whistle blow. "Alright ladies lets dance." Maggie said standing in front of the big mirror. Everyone got into place as the song, "Hold It Against Me" by Britney Spears started to play. We all did the dance as instructed but time quickly faded out.
"Class this Thursday at 5'O clock, please be here!" Maggie called out as the girls left the building.
"Hey thanks I got your text." I said to Mary Lyn.
"Key great. See you tomorrow." She smiled waving. I waved back as I walked to the parking lot. I stepped into my silver corvette and headed home.

"Candice I'm so glad your home." My grandmother Ruthy greeted me.
"Hey gamma." I called her that since I was three and it just stuck that way.
"How was class?" She asked her usual question while she looked through her oddly large cook book.
"It was fine, same as usual. I'm gonna help Mary Lyn on some of the dance routines. You know kind of one on one teaching."
"Oh that's really nice of you. Dammit! We don't have starch." She said.

My grandmother's very different from most I know. She tends to swear a lot, loves violent movies, and is outgoing and adventurous. Not to mention she's a fifty five year old grandmother. She had my mom when she was fifteen and then my mom had me at seventeen. I'm glad I didn't make the same mistakes they did but that's only because my grandmother was there to help me.

"I thought you went shopping yesterday?" I said opening the small cupboard within our small five roomed house.
"I did and I thought I bought some." She said opening another cabinet.

My grandmother and I had low paying jobs. She worked as an orchestra player on Sundays at a local church, and I was a desk operator at a nail shop. "Oh here it is gamma." I said handing her the box.
"Thank you Cansey." She used my nickname given to me as a baby. I smiled then went up the stairs to my bedroom.

After I took my hot shower, I noticed I had a message on my cell. I played the voice mail, rolling my eyes at what I head, " Hey Candice um whats up? Just give me a call or text me whenever you can. Thanks bye bye." It was Jeremiah.
My best friend and his best friend hooked up about two years ago and they tried setting us up but Jeremiah wasn't my type. He wasn't ugly, but he wasn't cute. He was really nice, but really annoying. I just didn't want to go out with him.

I walked downstairs in sweats and a tight beader and heard my grandmother in the living room. "Ha take that Kopitar!"
I rolled my eyes. My grandmother loved sports. Mainly football and hockey. She was watching a Washington Capitals game against the LA Kings. I sometimes watched them with her but dancing was more of my thing than sports.

"Hey who's winning?" I asked her picking up some of her knitting tools.
"D.C. by two goals. Ovechkin scored another great goal, if he keeps it up he'll pass up Stamkos and Cindy Crybaby Crosby." She said almost excited.
I smiled. She didn't like the Pittsburgh Penguins at all but then again, most Washington fans don't.
"Say what you want about Sidney Crosby but he's so much cuter then Ovechkin." I said defending the Captain.
"Mhmm true." Then she looked back at the TV. "Oh now there's a cutie." She said.
"Grandma!" I said surprised. I looked and saw #52 on TV. Mike Green.
"What? He's a hot shot hunk." I looked at the defenceman again. He was pretty hot.

"When are you gonna find yourself a nice man?" My grandmother asked.
"You know I hate relationships gamma." I said.
"That's only because you can't find the right one." She said smirking. It was true. All of my relationships in the past had been cheater, drunks, or just plan assholes. Once I was even in an abusive relationship; its the main reason why I have a hard time trusting men.

"Look I'm fine being single really." I said trying to reassure her.
"I know you are. I was just suggesting a relationship. Maybe with a rich athlete." She said nodding her head toward the game.
"Chill gamma." I said smiling.
She giggled. "Never have, never will."
I laid back against the couch and watched the rest of the game. It's not like any of those athletes want a 5'3ft, 120 lbs dark brownish blonde hair girl with boring brown eyes. They all want the fake plastic bleach blonde girls with blue eyes and the money smile.

I must of drifted of to sleep because when I woke up I was lying on the couch. I looked at the TV and it was 8:30 am. Sitting up I knew today I was gonna help Mary Lyn with the dance routines so I got up and took a shower. Afterward I got some breakfast, got dressed into light blue shorts and a Hollister shirt. I packed my dancer bag and left a note for gamma. I got into my car and turned on my radio. I looked at the text Mary Lyn sent me yesterday of the address where she lived at. I didn't recognize the address but I put it into my GPS anyway and started driving.

After about three minutes I came to an unfamiliar area in DC. I lived here for most of my life and yet I've never seen this neighborhood. All of the houses were huge! They all had the same color and style but these were rich people's houses. "I hope I'm not lost." I said to myself scanning the brightly green lawns and drive ways full of fancy cars.

When I pulled up to a really large, modern looking house, I looked at the numbers on the house and street name whiched matched that of the ones Mary Lyn gave me. "Wow I wonder if she really lives here." I thought to myself. There was at least five cars parked in the drive way, all fancy and shiny.

I walked up to the two big wooden doors and knocked. I heard two deep voices behind it and then the door swung open.
"Hi can I help you?" A tall, muscle man, short haired guy said.
"Hello. Um is Mary Lyn here?" I said taking note of the smell of alcohol coming from the house.
"Ohh you must be Candice. Yeah hi I'm Brooks." He said extending his hand toward mine.
"Oh nice to meet you and yes I am Candice." I said shaking his hand.
"Laich leave!" Mary Lyn said from behind Brooks.
He laughed, "Whatever cuz'." He smiled walking away.

Realization hit me when his name came together. Brooks Laich! The capitals player! Thank god for gamma watching the games all the time.
"Hey sorry about that. Come on in." She said stepping inside and letting me in. Of course this house was amazing inside. A rich hockey player owned it.

I heard a lot of other guys talking and figured it was other players on the team. "Wow I didn't expect to see that your cousins with Brooks Laich." I said following her down a flight of stairs.
"Ha yeah I guess from my point of view it's not that special." She said opening a door which led to a small dance studio.
"Whoa this is pretty nice." I said admiring the wooden polished floor and big front mirror.
"Thanks." It used to be a game room but Brooks turned it into my own personal dance studio." She said walking over to the stereo and looking through songs.

"So do you live here with him?" I asked taking off my shirt revealing my black tank top.
"Yep but only for three more years. My parents got divorced last year and my mom was struggling with money so Brooks offered to take me in." She said smiling and rolling her eyes.
"Oh sorry about that. But why three years?" I asked curious.
"I attend high school here so when I graduate I can go to college for dancing anywhere I get accepted to." Mary Lyn said putting on Ke$ha.
"Well that's nice of your family doing that." I smiled pulling my arms behind my back.
"Yeah I guess. Oh and your welcome to stay awhile after our dance session. Brooks and other guys on the team are just chilling here all day. Do you watch the Caps?"
"Thanks. And sometimes. My grandmother's more of a fan than I am." I said standing next to her.
"Ha that's cool. So you wanna do the warm up then I'll watch you do the routine, then try to do it." She lightly laughed.
"Okay sure." I said beginning the warm up.

After we finished the warm up I got ready to do the routine. Mary Lyn put on "Hold It Against Me" and I began. I did the twirls, spins, jumps, grinds, dirty moves, all of it.

When I took the final stand with my arms up, I heard a whistle, "Damn that was sexy." I looked and saw a light browned haired man with a heavy accent smirking.
"Varlamov you asshole!" Mary Lyn yelled wide eyed.
"Oh shit." The Caps goalie said before turning on his heel and running up the steps with Mary Lyn right behind him. I smiled rolling my eyes and followed them up.

When I got upstairs, Semyon Varlamov was hiding behind Brooks while Mary Lyn tried getting past her cousin.
"He's a perv! He was creepin on us Brooks!" She said swinging her hand toward Semyon.
"Nu-uh I just wanted to meet her. Brooks said she was hot."
"Really? Well that's nice of you." I smiled folding my arms.
"Oh ha ha sorry." Brooks blushed.
"Uhhh all of you guys are creepers." Mary Lyn said giving up trying to kill Semyon.
"It's cool hah really." I said seeing two more guys come into the living room.
"Well Mary aren't you gonna introduce your new friend to us?" One guy asked.
Mary Lyn sighed, "Fine. Candice this is Semyon Varlamov, Tom Poti, Alex Ovechkin, and Nik Backstrom."

I waved to the guys, "Hi guys."
"Are you a model?" Alex asked.
"Ovechkin!" Mary Lyn yelled annoyed.
I laughed, "Nope I'm a dancer like Mary Lyn."
"Ya and she's really good. Sorry I didn't mean to watch you." Semyon said looking down.
"It's cool. I'm used to having people watch me." I said.

Just then we heard loud music blasting from outside. "Ha ha Greenies here." Poti said walking to the door and opening it. The rest of the guys followed him out onto the drive way along with Mary Lyn and I.

My eyes fell on the very new, very shiny silver Lamborghini that was playing the loud music. The black tinted windows were rolled up so I couldn't see who this "Greenie" guy was.

But then the music was shut off and the passenger door opened. "What up playa's" The young looking guy said smirking. I recognized him as Michal Neuivirth, the other goalie on the team.
"Whats up sick goalie." Varlamov said walking toward the car. "This new baby yours?"
"No it's mine, don' touch." A deep Canadian voice said.
I looked and immediately went wide eyed feeling my knees become weak. The voice belonged to a tall tanned man with dark brown hair in a Mohawk style. He was wearing a muscle shirt reveling tattoos on his arms and shoulder. He took off his black sunglasses when he noticed me staring at him. Our eyes met for the first time and I felt like I was short on air.

"Hi." He lightly said looking me up and down. I just smirked as Mary Lyn said, "This is my dancing friend Candice. Don't touch."
"I'm Mike Green." He said looking from Mary Lyn to me.
"Yeah I kinda figured." I said remembering him from the games on TV.
"Wow your fucking sexy!" Neuivirth exclaimed checking me out.
"Dude really." Mike said turning to glare at his teammate.
"It never fails.." Mary Lyn said walking back inside.
"Sorry." He said lowly.
"It's okay. Thanks though." I said smiling.
"Well Mikey we're glad you guys made it. Now lets get this party started." Alex said pushing Brooks back inside.

The others soon followed and as I turned to walk back in Mike jumped in front of me and stopped me.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Are you staying for the party, Candice?" He asked saying my name with a smile that could put Justin Bieber to shame.
"Well Mary Lyn said I could so I guess." I said leaning back a little to look up at him.
Mike looked down and smirked, "Good now I have a reason to stay longer." His face was now close to mine as I smirked an evil grin at him.
"Yeah? Well guess I have a reason to say I'm single."
"Yeah?" Mike whispered putting his hand on the wall next to my head and leaning closer to me.

Out of no where we heard, "Varlamov! I'm gonna kill you!" Mary Lyn completely ruined the moment as Mike sighed heavily.
"Maybe next time." I said walking past him and in the house. I heard him whisper wow and whistle low making me giggle. "Was I really falling for the hot defenceman?" I thought to myself. "Gamma would be so proud."
