Like Ghosts In The Snow

Chapter Five

“Is my dinner almost done fag!?” I heard my father shout heatedly from the kitchen. I sighed and bit my lip, trying to calm myself down.

My father had just gotten back from his business trip, and he was very irritable right now. Honestly, he was pissed. I don’t know what happened with his work, but someone pissed him off and he was angrier than I have seen him in a long time.

I grabbed down four plates and laid them down on top of the counter. I placed the lasagna down on each plate and carried the first one into the kitchen. My dad was sitting at the table, a grimace on his face.

“Took you long enough fag.” He grumbled as I walked into the dining room. I was beginning to think that fag was my new name or something.

“I’m extremely sorry sir.” I told him as I put his plate down in front of him. He grumbled out a, ‘you better be,’ and dug into his pasta.

I went back into the kitchen to grab the plates for Mikey and my mom. It has been almost a full week since I decided that I was going to go on a ghost hunt. I did all of my research and on each site it said the same thing. Don’t go on a ghost hunt alone. I didn’t know why that was or anything but I had no one to come with me. I had no friends here that would do that for me. Then it came to my family. If I told them that I was going hunting for ghosts they would call me crazy. So, I guess I have to go this alone.

I placed the plates in front of them and my mom smiled and said quick thanks before she dug in. My mom was always so kind. It made me wonder why she was with my father. She could do so much better; she was too good for him. He really didn’t deserve her, or really anyone for that matter. My father didn’t have a heart.

I was extremely nervous for tonight. I was going to do it after everyone is asleep, which hopefully wont be too late. I read online that some good hours to go ghost hunting was from 9pm to 6am. So I decided that I would go around one. The place that I was going to go first was the library.

The library was the first place that I have ever seen anything paranormal. It was also the place that was just plain terrifying. It was always replaying in my mind. It was always haunting me. I am also going to check up in my room too. The attic was the second place that I have seen the ghost at.

I grabbed some lasagna from out of the pan and threw some on the plate for myself. I was practically starving. I haven’t eaten yesterday since breakfast and I only had a piece of toast. My father doesn’t allow me to eat a lot because he says that he needs the food and I eat everything. I used to be fat, so I guess that he is just looking after me.

I dipped my fork into the lasagna and took the first bite. I chewed it hurriedly as I thought about how all of this was going to turn out tonight. Was it really even a good idea? Going on a ghost hunt alone, especially when it was my first time doing anything like this. What if I get hurt, or I get sucked into some spiritual world or I get killed. Don’t spirits have that power to do something like that?

“Get in here fag and eat with us! What, you think your too good to sit down with your family and have a meal once in a while?” I heard my father seethe from inside the dining room. I sighed and grabbed my plate as I walked out into the dining room to have yet another tortuous meal with my family.

I sat the camera down on top of my bed, angling it so that you could see all of my room and the steps to the attic. I grabbed the audio recorder and sat on my bed with it, fumbling it nervously in my hands. I was sitting her in the complete darkness of my room. I bet I looked like a tool right now with my sweaty palms and chattering teeth. I was so freaked out right now but I had to calm down. The ghost will not come around if I’m not calm. Or, it will sense my fear and try to take over.

I decided that it would be easiest and less scary if I tried it out in my bedroom first before I went to the library. Honestly, I was just freaked out to go back into that room. I still haven’t gone into that room since all of those things had gone on. But I was going to get to the bottom of this.

On the web sites it always told me to say a type of prayer before I began the hunt. I didn’t know any kinds of prayers or anything close to that matter. So I guess I also had to skip out on that as well. I was skipping way too many things on this hunt and it was the most important things that I was skipping. I didn’t even have the right equipment for it. I honestly don’t think this is going to work.

I took a deep breath as I grabbed the recorder and held down the play button. I closed my eyes and tried to calm myself, taking deep breaths, in and out, in and out. Once I thought that I had calmed down considerably, I began to ask questions.

“Can I ask you just a few questions?” I called out, awaiting a reply. I heard a faint kind of giggling noise. It sounded like the same giggle that I had heard in the library. I took that as a yes, so I just asked the second question.

“Who are you?” I asked boldly out into the dark. I listened closely for a reply; all I heard in return was this quiet little shuffling from across the room.

“Why are you here?” I asked a different question this time, hoping that I would get just a little reply. I got nothing.
“Are you alone?” I asked it this time, a simple yes or no question. I half expected to hear nothing, but I heard a quiet reply. At first I thought I was just hearing things, but then I heard it so clearly, like this thing was just inches in front of me.

“Yes.” It said in this very quiet, saddened voice. It was almost muffled, like it was afraid to talk to me.

The sound almost scared me; due to that fact that I didn’t even think that it would be saying anything back to me. It was nowhere near to how much the thing talked to me in the library, but it was something.

“Do you want me to leave?” I asked it, making sure that I wasn’t disturbing it in anyway. I heard nothing,

I stood up and walked over to the light in my room, which was just a light bulb that had a string attached to it, and I pulled it down. The light flickered on and I felt this cold rush of air, and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I stood still, waiting for it to past. Then, the next thing I knew the light string was pulled down, right in front of my eyes, turning the light off automatically.

I gasped aloud when I stood in the center of the room, in the complete darkness. I could feel something’s presence right next to me. I could almost feel the breath on my neck. It was then that I felt something touch my shoulder, trailing down into my hand where something gave it a quick tug. I just stood there, not moving, not doing anything, for I was too scared to move.

I kept on thinking in my head, this wasn’t a good idea. I messed with the sprit and disturbed its peace. I couldn’t tell if It was mad or not, but it defiantly was messing with me. I heard this quiet mumbling sound, like a whisper fill the air. I couldn’t make any of the words out but then I heard something crash to the floor next to me. That’s when it all stopped. The light turned on and the ghost was gone.

On the floor, was the camera smashed to pieces. The recorder that was formally on the bed was gone. I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes, everything really just beginning to sink in. the camera was shattered, any evidence that was left on it was ruined. But the worst part of it all was that it was my father’s camera. He was going to kill me.

The second thing was that whoever, or whatever this ghost was, it didn’t want me to know about it. But I am not going to give up. I will not rest until I find out at least something about this ghost. I am determined to find something out. I think, that the ghost hunt is now called off, due to the fact that I got a special surprise afterwards. But I still had one thing in mind. I wonder where I can find an ouija board?
