Time Will Tell

First Date Part Two

Teagan looks beautiful tonight.

I can’t believe she said she would go on a date with me – I can’t believe I even asked her. There was supposed to be coffee and talking and friendliness. Asking her on a date was being overfriendly… it just came out, not that I’m not glad it did because if I hadn’t I wouldn’t be on a date with her right now.

What would make her want to date me though? A teenager’s life is complicated enough, and now she wants to date a guy with a baby?

“What are you thinking about?” she asks me, watching me curiously from the other side of the table.

I look up at her, a little startled. I must look distracted. “I’m thinking about you,” I answer honestly.

She grins at me in this extremely adorable way – her eyes light up and her lips part slightly. “What about me?”

I laugh. “I was thinking about how gorgeous you look.”

She gets up from her side of the table and moves to sit next to me. “Liar,” she accuses, snuggling into my side. I really like it too. “What were you really thinking?”

I sigh and wrap my arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer to me. “I was wondering about why you wanted to go on a date with me.”

She peeks up at me from under her lashes. “Why I want to go out with you?” she asks.

I chuckle. “You seeing a lot of guys at the moment?”

She laughs at me. “Let’s see…” Her voice takes on a mocking tone. “There’s John, Eli... Matt… oh, and Reese, I can’t forget about Reese, he’s my favorite.”

I laugh with her and playfully poke her side. She jumps and swats at my arm, which I just wrap around her waist.

She sighs and leans her head against my chest. “No, I just like you.”

I grin. “I might just like you, too.”

“Might?” she mumbles, pouting at me.

“I like you, too, obviously or else I wouldn’t have asked you out.”

She shakes her head at me. “I didn’t think you were going to. It drove me crazy because I couldn’t tell what you were thinking. Usually when a guy likes me I know it.”

“Why do you like me?” I ask, hoping not to sound too much like a chick. “Usually when a girl hears about a guy having a baby she runs the other way, but you – you’re not like other girls. I know you well enough to know that much, but it doesn’t mean I understand.”

“Maybe I like that you aren’t like other guys. If any of my exes or any of my guy friends found a baby on their doorstep they would have freaked out – not that I’m saying you didn’t, because I certainly would have if I were a guy, but they wouldn’t still have that baby now, and if they did they wouldn’t love it like you love yours.”

I can’t exactly explain how I feel right now. She wants to be with me despite my having a baby.

“And most girls wouldn’t care less how I felt, all they would think was that they were competing with a baby.”

“Damn babies,” she grumbles mockingly. “They get all the good stuff.”

I shake my head. “You really are different than anybody I’ve ever met.”

She tilts her head back to smile up at me. “You, too.” She says softly.

I can’t help myself.

I lean in slowly and press my lips lightly to her mouth. If I were a girl, I could go on and on about sparks and fireworks and shit but I’ll sum it up with fanfuckingtastic.

I laugh.

“What?” she demands, her face flushing red. “What did I do?”

“Nothing,” I say. “You didn’t do anything wrong. In fact, that was the most right thing I’ve felt in a long time.”

She grins and twists around to press into me, giving me a better vantage point and full access to her amazing mouth.

Kissing her is the best thing I’ve ever felt. It didn’t feel like this when I kissed Celeste – it never felt this way when I kissed anybody. Her mouth is moving with mine, I’ve got my arms wrapped around her waist and she’s got her hands pressed against my chest.

Someone clears their throat and we turn to see our waiter, balancing a tray in one hand, impatiently waiting on us to finish.

Teagan smiles apologetically at him and then retreats to her side of the table. We spend the rest of our date grinning at each other like idiots.
