Enchanted Ones

Eighteen Years Later

2015
6:15 p.m.

An older woman with short dark brown hair in a red dress and beautiful green studs stood in her attic staring seriously at a book. It read book of shadows.

“Patricia.” called another women with shoulder length blonde hair.

“What are you doing here? The kids will be here soon.” she said appearing by the threshold.

“Ann there’s no time left.” Patricia said ominously.

“What do you mean?”

“Do you know that its been eighteen years since my daughter, Elizabeth mysteriously disappeared.”

“I know Pat. She was like my daughter too.”

“Do you know that she left behind five kids. Five kids who do not know that she was a witch and she didn’t mysteriously disappeared she was abducted by demons…. That I’ve tried my hardest all these years to find her and I couldn’t. What good does it do me to be a Sanchez witch! To come from the best and most powerful line of witches! and I still couldn’t find my daughter in 18 years! ” stressed Pat. Her suffering, all the suffering she’s harbored came pouring out in a way only a mother who lost her child and all hope could let out.

“Pat don’t do this to yourself.” said Ann, her best friend.

“She didn’t have a chance to see her children grow, maybe if she would have been here with them Ann, everything would have been so different. Adam would know who his real mother is. Zoey could have been with us more. Ariel, Ariel could have stayed with us!” She said gripping the podium the book was on till her knuckles turned white.

“You and I know it was best to let Ariel leave to New York, Pat.” said Ann.

“It doesn’t make it easier Ann. I still had no time to raise her! My granddaughter.”

“You and she argued too much Pat. She loves you but that relationship would have been ruined had she stayed you guys saw life completely differently. Pat look at Sasha she’s just like you and look how she Ariel get along. They simply don’t.” Patricia cried a little.

“Ann I feel like my heart is going to give out at any moment. Make sure. Make sure that they all come together please make sure they all come together.”

“Pat? Pat are you ok?” Ann asked concerned coming closer.

“Ann make sure. They need to come up here. Sasha, Helen, and Ariel. They need to fulfill their destiny. They need to become the Enchanted Ones.” Patricia said before taking a shaky gasp and collapsing on the floor.

“Pat!” Ann screamed and raced to her side.

A woman with jet black hair a little bit past her shoulders ran towards the attic door.

“What’s the matter?”

“Adrian call 911. I think Pat just had a heart attack.”

The San Francisco Police Department
6:30 p.m

A deep male laugh is heard. A man with blonde hair and nice eyes sits down on a comfortable desk chair. He leans back and makes a joke with another man sitting across from him. His badge hangs low.

“Lets go for drinks Sanchez?” said his best friend Chandler.

“Alright. Let me just call my grandmother and let her know I’m not coming over.”

“Dude, your 27 years old and you still check in with your grandma?” joked another guy.

“Hey! She’s paranoid butt hole, or did you forget my mother was 27 when she disappeared she thinks its like the cursed age or something.” He defended himself.

“Hey! Leave Adam alone! Before I call Mrs. Sanchez over her to whip all ya asses and ya know she’ll do it cause she’s walked in here before and pulled a couple of ears.” Warned Chandler the guys laughed.

“That’s strange no one picks up.” Adam commented before hanging up.

Then his cell phone rings and he picks up.

“Hello?”

“Oh hey auntie Adrian…. She what? Which hospital?…I’m on my way.” Adam said and hung up. He shot up his chair and put his jacket on.

“What happened?” Chandler asked with the same confuse expression as everyone else.

“My grandmother just had a heart attack.” Adam said hurriedly then running out.

The Hospital
6:40 p.m.

A young female with jet black hair that goes down almost to her elbows shrugged on her sweater. She closed her locker after pulling out her bag. She shoved her hands into her oversized pants she had on hospital scrubs. She passed by the hospital counter and tapped it.

“See you later guys.” she said.

“Bye Zoey!” the girls said.

At that moment a stretcher was pushed into the hospital everyone’s head snapped up to the front doors. Zoey watched her nana, mom, and older cousin almost her brother run in.

“What’s going on?” she yelled as they ran pass her.

“Mom!” she yelled at Adrian.

“Stay with Zoey! Stay with Zoey!” Adrian screamed at Adam.

Adam turned around and walked back to his little cousin.

“What happened?” she asked. Adam’s eyes soften a little at his little cousin.

“Grandma had a heart attack.” Zoey gasped.

“Oh my ..” Zoey said staring at him in shock. Adam took her into his arms and embraced his cousin.

Office Building

7:00 p.m.

A low scratching sound is heard from a distance. A low gloomy light lighten the room as the brunette worked feverishly on the paper on her desk. She sighted and leaned back on her chair stretching her arms and legs.

The golden plat on her desk read: Sasha Sanchez.

Sasha rubbed her eyes caring little about her make up and picked up her waist long dark brown hair to a bun. She stared at the file in front of her, as a psychologist Sasha had to deal with allot of different strange things but this one patient of hers by far beat them all. He could not be around dolls he had a weird sexual fetish with them. Sasha shook her head, but it wasn’t her place to judge her place was to help this man understand what causes this to happen.

Her office phone rings and she picks up.

“Hello.” she smiles hearing her older brothers voice.

‘”Hey Adam.” She greets him. Soon her smile drops and her face pales.

“Grandma had a heart attack? I’m on my way.” Sasha hangs up the phone and then closes the folder she was working on. Sasha slips on her sandals, rips her jacket from the back of her office chair, picks up her purse and keys and runs out.

7:15 p.m

The older brunette sits at her desk reading the form in front of her while a young brown slightly red head paces in front of her. The older woman sights and leans back she’s wearing heels, a tan pencil skirt, with a tan office jacket, her hair was neatly picked up, she had simple diamond studs and just a hint of make up but she still looked stunning. Unlike the younger girl in front of her who was quiet beautiful but her clothes were quiet frumpy on her for a woman her age. She had on a pair of brown flats, with a blue frumpy office skirt , a white blouse, and a matching blue office jacket. Her hair picked up in a messy bun her face looked extremely pale as though she had not slept in days. The bags under her eyes hung low .

“So how about we try this approach.” the young girl tried.

“Helen I’m so tired right now …I cant even think.” said the older woman.

“I understand. Its been a pretty stressful night this case is defiantly no walk in the park.” said Helen Sanchez.

At that moment her cell phone rings her boss Andrea indicates its ok to pick up they were done for the night.

“Hello.”

“Hey Adam.” Helen greets.

“What? She had a heart attack?. Oh my god I’m on my way.” Helen hung up her blackberry and stared at her boss who had confusion written all over her face.

“My grandmother had a heart attack.” she said stunned. Her boss gasped.

New York, New York

8:00 P.M

A bottle cork popped and the Champaign fizzled down the neck of the bottle and the girls squealed in delight. A girl with light brown hair in waves poured the Champaign into a blonde girls cup and a boy with sandy brown hair.

“Lets all celebrate!” yelled the blonde girl with dark black eye make up, fishnets, and a short black dress.

“Lets celebrate I finally got the hell out of school! I passed! I’m a certify business woman!” screamed the brunette in delight as she raised her glass.

“Yeah!” screamed the sandy blonde hair boy raising his glass as well.

“I’m glad you finally did it Ariel. I cant be any more proud of you. I saw how hard you worked to get where your are now and I’m more than proud of you. Congrats you defiantly deserved this.” He said toasting to her.

“Thank you Ethan. That means allot to me.” Said Ariel giving him a kiss on the cheek and the two embraced.

“Now to party!” said Ethan and plopping himself on Ariel’s queen sized white bed.

“Hell yeah! Now this is my business!” yelled the blonde.

“Of course it is, Annie.” Ariel said rolling her eyes.

“Ariel I just want to say. We’ve been best friends since we were little. You’ve always looked out for me like a sister and I appreciate that so much I know I haven’t been the best of friend there is, but you stuck with me anyways and helped me become a better person. You even checked up on me when I moved away from San Francisco at the age of 12 and stopped being your neighbor. I know leaving San Fran at 14 and leaving your family and all that was allot for you. Thank you for coming to New York and living with me and my sister. Believe it or not Ariel you changed our lives for the better so thank you for being a part of my life for being my best friend when I needed one, my diary when I needed that, my mother to scold me when you had to, and my right hand in everything. To wrap this very emotional speech up I just want to say I’m more than proud of you and you deserved this because like Ethan said you are the most hard working person I’ve ever seen.” Anastasia said.

“Don’t make me cry hoe.” Said Ariel. The two laughed and embraced one another.

“Now lets start this bitch!” Anastasia said pulling Ariel down.

With a yell the two best friends fell backwards on the bed, Ariel and she squealed when the Champaign spilled on the two.

Ariel’s phone when off. She got off the bed and picked it up.

“Hello?”

“Ms. Sanchez, you have a call on line one from your sister Helen.” said the maid of the house.

“Thank you, Ida.” said Ariel and picked up the call.

“Helen!” Ariel greeted.

“What?…….I’m taking the first plane out.” Ariel said putting the phone back down. The smile had disappeared off her face, one of the most special days in her life had gone sour.

“Ariel what’s the matter?” Anastasia asked.

“My grandmother….she just had a heart attack.” She said slowly dazing off.

“I have to book a plane, pack, and just so much more.” she said snapping out of it looking around frantically.

“You can take my private jet Ariel. I’ll call to make arrangements right away. “ Ethan said putting his glass down and pulling out his Iphone. He stepped out the room to make his call. It was more than clear this party had finished.

“I’ll help you pack.” Anastasia said placing her cup down.

JFK Airport
9:00 p.m.

Ariel pulled on her suitcase in front of her the man took it out of her hands and loaded it on the jet. She turned around and waved once more to her friends who had become her family for the last 7 years. She turned back around and ascended the stairs boarding the jet.

Sarah, her legal guardian for the last seven years, Anastasia, and Ethan all waved her off. Ariel took her seat and watched out the window as her two “sisters” Sarah, Anastasia, and Ethan, she and Anastasia’s best friend besides each other, huddle close together . Ariel smiled at them and although it killed her to admit it she couldn’t help but wish one more blonde headed family member of theirs was outside with them waving her off. She shook her head at herself she took so much pride that she had learned to erase his name from her vocabulary and that she no longer cried for him, but no matter what she did she was still madly in love with that bastard. John Deveraux, Sarah and Anastasia’s brother.

2:00 a.m.

Ariel stretched her stiff legs out and descended the jet. She looked all around the last time she was in California was last year for her cousin almost younger sister highschool graduation. She left San Fran at the age of 14 and she only visited very few times, but they had visited her very few times as well.

Ariel smiled at the lady behind the desk who kindly called her a cab. Ethan had used his family connections to make sure her jet had permission to land at the airport closest to where she lived.

The taxi driver put Ariel’s baggage in the trunk and she hoped in. She had a pair of black heels with jeans and purple shirt, a white jacket, a huge bag, her face decorated with light purple eye shadow.

The cab pulled up to the old Sanchez manor. Ariel paid the guy and gave him a tip for taking out her baggage and leaving it in front of the manor. Ariel checked under the mat and found the spare key.

‘God all these years and they still keep it in the same place.’

Ariel opened the door and placed her suitcases in the foyer hall, she closed the door. Ariel made her way to the kitchen and flipped through the phone pad her grandmother and nana kept by the phone. She picked up the phone and dialed a number.

“Hi this Ariel Sanchez, I was just calling to ask if my grandmother Patricia Sanchez is checked in this hospital for suffering a heart attack?”

“She is? Thank you. Could I ask for your address?” Ariel took a pen and pad.

“Uh huh. Ok Thank you so much, you’ve been a great help.” Ariel hung up and ripped the piece of paper off the pad. She walked forward when she heard the front door open.

Helen placed her office jacket on the racket she ripped the hair tie out her hair and massaged her scalp. With her eyes clothes she walked towards the stairs. Ariel smiled then shook her head. What the hell was her sister wearing?

“Geez sis, I know you work in a law firm and all but do you need to be in that disgusting outfit.” Helen stopped dead in her tracks and turned around slowly.

“Ariel?” she asked.

“In the flesh.” she grinned.

“Ariel!” she squealed at the sight of her little sister. The two embraced.

“I’m so happy to be here. Helen I missed you.” the two sister embraced.

“I was on my way to the hospital.” Ariel said.

“Give me a minute let me change from my work clothes.” Helen said.

“I’m going to change my heels.” Ariel and she agreed.

Ariel changed to flats and a long black sweaters and waited for Helen who shortly appeared in black flats, jeans, a white tank top with a dark blue sweater on top her hair picked up into a bun.

“Lets go.” Helen said and the two hopped in Helen’s car and drove off to the hospital.

Helen and Ariel walked in arm in arm into the hospital.

“Here.” a steaming cup of coffee appeared in Sasha Sanchez eye sight. She looked up so see her brother with his own cup.

“We need this if we are the ones staying up tonight.” Adam said.

“Thank you.” Sasha said accepting the coffee.

“I’m going to go home and change as soon as Helen gets back.” Sasha said.

“I think she’s back….. But who’s that girl she’s with?” Adam asked squinting his eyes.

Sasha turned her head and sighted deeply. She may have changed her look just a bit, grown up a little more, and look like a fabulous city girl instead of your ordinary average girl, but there is no denying her oval shaped face with those innocent brown eyes of her mother and that charming smile that could fool anyone, from her father. The girl attached to Helen’s arm is Ariel, her baby sister.

“That’s Ariel, Adam don’t you recognize her?” she asked.

Adam blinked a few times that’s Ariel? She looked so different when she first came but now his little sister was now a ….woman? He couldn’t help but realize how beautiful she had turned out to be.
“Hey sorry I took so long you can go change now.” Helen said.

“Adam!” Ariel squealed running directly to Adam’s arms.

“Princess” he said picking her up off the ground and spinning her.

Zoey walked up to her family.

“Here’s a pound cake I bought for you guys.” she said offering it and then her eyes landed on Ariel so just finished hugging Adam and looked at her with a grin from ear to ear.

“Ariel?” she asked.

“Its me!” she squealed. Zoey placed her pound cake on the chairs and the two cousins crashed into one another hugging each other tightly.

“Look at you! You look so cute in your scrubs!” Ariel tells Zoey.

“Ariel you look great!” Zoey complimented.

“Thank you! So do you!” Ariel said excitedly.

Helen pushed Saasha’s shoulder and gave her a look while Ariel and Zoey hugged. Adam gave her a look as well when she looked at him she rolled her eyes and cleared her throat behind her little sister.

Ariel turned around and faced Sasha smile slowly disappearing.

“Hi Sasha.” She said giving her a less than warm welcome like she gave her other siblings.

“Its nice to have you back Ariel.” Sasha said. The two kept their voice even towards the other even though they both had a boatload of emotions to let out at the other. Starting by love, admiration, hurt, sadness, and just a little bit of resentment.

“You two are something else.” Helen said.

“Aw c’mon guys you havent seen each other in years! Ariel last time we saw you was a year ago for my graduation and you left the next day.” Zoey complained.

“I wasn’t wanted.” Ariel said to Zoey referring to the fight she and Sasha had.

“Not wanted or not wanting to be there?” Sasha asked.

“You always have to go there don’t you.” Ariel began.
“Because you always want to play the victim role.” Sasha fired up.

“Get over it Sasha. I live in New York so accept it and another thing they are my family too so I wont have you sitting there and saying I don’t love-” Adam cut off his sisters before they can continue arguing.

“Alright. Bring the estrogen down a notch! Are you guys forgetting our grandmother is in there barely recovering from a heart attack. She wants us all to get along and the only ones stoping that are you two!” Sasha and Ariel turned to look at their brother.

“Don’t give me that look you two are the only ones who don’t get along so either get it together or make up, but don’t cause grandma anymore stress.” Adam said firmly the two kept their mouth shut.

“They’ve manage to stablize her she is in her room. She had a minor heart attack, but shes fine now.” Adrain said walking up to the five of them. She blinked again once she realized there were five of them.

“Ariel?” she asked.

“Hi auntie Adrian.” Ariel said.

“Ariel.” the two embraced. Ariel out of all Elizabeth’s daughters looked the most like her. Adrian hugged her tighter the only daughter of her best friend she didn’t get to raise.

“So grandma is ok?” Sasha asked.

“Yes she’s stable you guys can go in if you wish.”

The five of the walked towards their grandmothers room right on time to see their nana walk out. Her eyes were red and puffy and looks like she’s been crying as well.

“Nana.” Ariel said smiling from ear to ear. Ariel adored her grandmother but her strictness and ridgeness just clashed with Ariel’s liberal views on life. The two bumped heads repeatedly so she could always turn to her nana who gave her the best advice.

“My baby.” Ann said opening her arms and taking Ariel in them.

“God how I missed you.” Ann adored Ariel, she was just like her mother a complicated mess, but one with a good heart and good intentions.

“I missed you so much nana.” Ariel said hugging her the two pulled away.

“How happy your going to make your gandmother when she sees you Ariel.” Anna said.

“I hope so.” Ariel said not to sure last time she was here her grandmother was less than happy with her fight with Sasha and took Sasha’s side.

“She will.” Ann stressed patting her shoulder.

“Go in.” She told all her grandchildren.

Everyone walked in except Ariel who waited until everyone had greeted her grandmother.

“I have almost all my grandchildren here. The only one I’m missing is…” Ariel walked in and cut her off.

“Me?” Ariel said sticking her head in.

“Ariel! My dariling come here.” she said stretching her arms out to take her granddaughter.

Ariel walked in and sat on her grandmothers hospital cot and hugged her grandmother.
