Field of Shadows: Chapter 15
Matt and I got off the plane at 7:45 P.M. and went to get our luggage.
Once we did that, we took the shuttle over to the rental place.
We got a car and I drove, since Matt didn't know where to go.
My dad moved to Edgewood when John and I moved out.
It was only about a 30 minute drive from the airport to Edgewood.
Halfway there, Matt started to get antsy.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I'm nervous about meeting your family."
"Why? You are only meeting my dad today. Everyone else is busy. But tomorrow you'll meet everyone." I said.
"I know. You just have a lot of brothers."
"I know. But you'll be just fine. Suck it up. We're here."
I parked the car in front of my dad's house.
We planned on staying with him instead of a hotel.
Matt grabbed the bags and I went to the door.
Before I could turn the handle, my dad opened the door and smiled.
He wrapped me in a hug.
"Hi daddy!" I said, hugging him back.
"Hello hun. How've you been?" He said, kissing my forehead.
"I've been good dad." I let him go and went to Matt. "I have someone for you to meet dad."
I brought Matt over to my dad and he set the luggage down.
"Dad, this is Matt." I said.
Matt stuck out his hand and my dad shook it.
"It's nice to meet you sir. I'm Matt." Matt said.
"Hello son. I am John Sr." My dad said. "Please come in."
Matt picked up the luggage and I followed my dad in.
I smiled at all the pictures.
Matt set the luggage at the bottom of the stairs and Maggie, my dad's dog came running in.
I bent down to pet her and she licked my face.
"Wow babe!" Matt said.
"What?" I said, standing back up and looking at Matt.
He had a picture of me in my dance uniform.
I was 10.
"Ugh." I said.
"Oh look at this one." Matt said.
I was 6 and I had just lost my first tooth.
"You look so cute babe!" Matt said.
"Oh shut up. You got lucky I only saw your high school pictures. And from the looks of them, you were pretty fat!."
"Did you just call me fat?" Matt asked.
"Yes I did. Fat ass." I said.
"You're mean." Matt said, glaring at me.
"I know."
I left Matt and went to the kitchen, to see my dad pulling out lasagna.
"Mmmm. Smells good dad. Did you cook it?" I asked.
"Of course." My dad said.
"Uhh huh. Did Chloe make it?" I asked.
"Yes." He said.
"Thought so. She is always cooking for you. She is such a nice neighbor." I said.
"Yeah. She is."
Matt walked in and his jacket was off.
My dad looked at Matt, then at me.
"He has tattoos. A lot." He whispered to me.
"I know." I said.
All he did was nod.
We sat down at the table and started talking.
"So Matt, what do you want from my daughter?" My dad asked.
"Dad." I said, surprised.
"Well I want to know."
"Sir, I have no intention on hurting your daughter. I have the up most respect for her. She means a lot to me." Matt said.
All my dad did was nod.
He continued questioning interrogating Matt before we went to bed.
"Anna, will you come here?" My dad called.
"Yes dad."
"I approve." He said, smiling.
"Thank you daddy!!" I said, hugging him.
"Goodnight sweetheart."
I went to our room and smiled at Matt.
"What?" He asked.
"He approves." I said.
"Yay babe!!" Matt said, grabbing me and kissing me.
"Now you just have to get past my brothers." I said.
