Field of Shadows

I woke up to a loud banging on my door.

I groaned and sat up, rubbing my eyes.

The dogs started barking.

I looked at the clock.

5:30 in the morning.

Who the fuck bangs on someone's door at 5:30 in the morning?

I got out of the bed, put on some sweat pants and a long sleeve, then went down stairs.

I turned the light on and looked out the window.

I saw my best friend Daniel.

I opened the door and glared.

"What?" I snapped.

"Whoa! Did someone wake up on the wrong side of the bed?" He asked, coming inside.

I shut the door and crossed my arms.

"At 5:30 in the morning, yes! A person tends to wake up in a bad mood." I said.

"It's 5:30? I thought it was 7."

"You smoke to much weed." I said. "Burnt ass!"

"Rude ass!" He said, laughing.

"Why are you here?" I asked.

"We leave in two hours." Daniel said.

"Yeah, and?"

"Are you ready to go?"

"Yes I am. Just need to pack a few more things." I said. "Wait, you came banging on my door at 5:30 in the morning to ask if I was ready to go?"

"Yeah."

I grabbed his arm and opened the door.

"I'll see you in two hours."

I closed the door.

"Bye Anna."

"Bye."

I sighed.

Same old Daniel.

Well I was up.

Might as well go get ready.

I went back to my room and hopped in the shower.

Once I finished I put my hair in a towel and put clothes on.

Skinny jeans, converses, and a tee.

I curled my hair and put makeup on.

I finished packing, grabbed all my bags, and went down stairs.

I got me something to eat.

I looked at the clock.

6:40.

Shit, I didn't realize I took that long to get ready.

I left a note on the counter with some cash.

Since the neighbor is house sitting for me, the least I can do is pay for his food.

I said bye to Brutus and Puggy.

I checked everything in the house and locked up.

I placed my bags in the trunk of my 2010 black Camaro.

Mikaela and I were going in my car, while Daniel, Bruce, Blake, and Derek went in Daniel's 2009 red Mustang GT.

I got in and called Mikaela.

"Anna! Where are you?" She yelled.

"Don't yell! I'm on my way now."

"Fo show!" She said. "The boys just got here. We'll be waiting."

"Alright. See you in a few." I said, hanging up the phone.

I started the call and drove to Mikaela's house.

They were all leaning on Daniel's car.

Waiting.

"You guys ready?" I asked, rolling down the passenger window.

"Yup." Bruce said.

Mikaela got in.

"We following you?" Derek asked.

"Yeah." I said. "Try and keep up."

"Oh, we will." Daniel said.

I rolled the window up.

I drove to the highway.

It's roughly about 5 hours from Huntington Beach to Las Vegas, NV.

Well, this was gonna be a long ride.
