The Beginning off the End

Cake Testing

Today, Jack and I were off shopping for Cassie. I liked to look professional so I pulled on some of Amy’s work clothes. I made my way to Jacks house and knocked on the door, hoping he’d be ready.

Jacks POV
“Alex, hurry up, I need to get going soon!” I shout upstairs
“Alright man!” he shouts back agitated that I’d woken him up early. He came back yesterday from his date with Eve to tell me how it went and ended up staying the night. I groaned in my head and went to the kitchen. He walked in a minute later and asked
“So where are you going today?” he yawned
“Kitty and I are sorting out Cassie’s birthday” I say quietly so she wouldn’t hear.
“Oh yeah, when’s she –“a knock on the door interrupted him and I smirked
“Now, can you get it while I get my jacket” he nods and goes to answer the door. I run up the stairs and grab a random jacket then run back the stairs to see Kitty in a red shirt and tight pants making her ass look amazing. She held her coat on her arm as she smiled at Alex with a pink lipped smile.
“Hey Kitty” I say feeling myself blush slightly
“Hey Jack, ready?” I nod and look to Alex who was smirking at me.
“Dude go” he whispers pushing me out the door after her. I stumble but catch my footing before she can see. I give Alex a ‘what the hell was that for’ look and open my car door for her.
“Where to?” I ask
“Cake shop” she says as we wave goodbye to Alex.
Four cake shops later and Kitty had found a cute little cake shop called Fairy Wishes
We walked inside the shop and was amazed at what we saw. He smell was heavenly and made my stomach rumble, the room was painted a peach colour with photos scattered across the wall, each with a hand painted red frame around it. The place was warm and had a homey feel to it, it reminded me a lot of Mollie’s diner, and it had that old fashioned feel about it. A middle aged women came running out the kitchen with a boy carrying a big pink box.
“Michael, you be careful with that!” she says with a slight Italian accent
“Yes Mom” said the boy who smiled as he passed us
“And remember-“
“Remember to tell them to keep it in a cool dark place, I know Ma” he laughs as she helps him out the door and into a van. She waves him goodbye and turns around and sees us.
“Beh ciao! Welcome to my shop” she says smiling wide.
“Thank you” I say giving her a smile back
“How may I help you two?” she asks
“We’re looking for a cake” says Kitty
“Well my dears, you are at the right place, come sit down” she chuckles as she directed us to a sitting area

Kitty's POV
“So what kind of cake are we looking for?” asks Gina as she pours us a cup of tea “Wedding cake?” she asks. Jack chokes on his drink, making it spit everywhere
“Jack!” I say rubbing his back as he coughed
“Oh dear” says Gina as she pats Jack on the back
“I'm fine” he wheezed
“Sure?” I ask him. He nods and signals for me to continue
“No not a wedding cake” I say. Her eyebrows scrunch together
“You two are not together?”
“No” I say blushing
“Oh, okay what kind of cake?” she says smiling again
“A birthday cake for a little girl” I say
“Birthday cake! I haven’t done a birthday cake in a while, I’ve been busy doing weddings, and they’re popular this time of year” she says finishing her tea.
“Is that bad?” asks Jack
“No sweetie, I’d love to do you guys a birthday cake, would you like to try some?” she asks standing up
“Oh erm-“ I say but she's off to the kitchen before I could reply
“It's nice here” says Jack leaning back on his seat
“It's lovely, are you alright now?” I ask looking at him worriedly
“I'm fine Kit” he says brushing back a loose curl from my face. I smile at him and see Gina walking back into the room with a pile of cake for us to try. Jack’s eyes light up at the slight and he sits forward
“Try” she instructs putting the tray down. Jack grabs a neatly cut square an eats it.
“Kitty this is amazing” he says his mouth half full, “Try it” he says stuffing a piece in my mouth before I said no.
“My, this is amazing Gina” I agree, Jack nodding his head in agreement. We spent the next hour just sat there talking when we had to leave.
“Bye Gina, thanks for the Cake” says Jack kissing her cheek
“Grazie Jack, thank you for choosing my cake shop” she smiles as she kisses my cheek
“There was no competition Gina! Thanks” I say as we wave goodbye. We walk down the road and Jack says dramatically
“I'm so full!” as he grabs his stomach
“Me too, but that was the best cake I have ever tasted!” I say stressing the word best.
We walked down the street and started window shopping
“Jack look!” I say grabbing his hand
“What?” he asks
I point to a little puppy in the window and smile as it sees me and wags its tail. Jack laughs smiles as well.
“Alex has a dog”
“He does?” I squeak
“Yeah, we’ll go see him on the way home”
“Yeah” I punch the air and wave goodbye to the dog, still holding onto Jacks hand.

As Jack promised, he took me to see Alex’s dog.
“Aww” I coo before I sit on the floor as a little ball of fur runs full speed at me. His tail wags furiously and he whimpers for me to fuss him. I tickle him and jumps up at me giving me kisses. I laugh and pull my head away as he settles in my lap. I tickle behind his ears and he wags his tail, enjoying the attention given to him
“Told you, my dog is a total chick magnet” smirks Alex to Jack, who just rolls his eyes
“What's his name?”I ask looking at Alex
“Sebastian” he says proudly
“Nice name” I say
“Thanks, so how did your day go?” he asks
“Great” says Jack
“Oh that reminds me, Jack if you go through my bag, there’s some cake for Alex”
“For moi?” asks Alex dramatically as he runs to Jack who’s going through my bag. He gives it to Alex who chews the cake slowly, his eyes widen and he says
“This cake is amazing!”
“We know!” Jack and I say happily. He smiles at the two of us and finishes his cake. After an hour, Jack looks at the clock then says
“Time to go, I’ve got to pick Cass up!”
“Bye Alex, and bye bye Sebastian” I say in a childlike voice as the little dog gets excited again. We walk out and just get to through the school gate with a minute to spare before the bell goes and all the kids pile out. I felt my phone buzz in my bag and I pull it out to see a text from Charlie
‘Please talk to me, we need to talk about the other night and that guy you were with – Charlie xx’ I huff in anger and put the phone in my pocket
“Hey, are you alright?” asks Jack looking concerned
“Peachy” I say, putting a warm smile on my face. He smiles back and Cassie comes flying at us both
“Hey guys” she says into my leg.
“Hey Cass, how was school?” I ask as she lets go
“Eh, see that girl there” she says nodding her head towards a blonde girl
“Yeah” says Jack taking her bag
“She was making fun of Sherry today!”
“Well that's awful, what did she do?” I ask looking at Jack with a concerned face
“I was playing with her when sherry came over. Shannon said that Sherry couldn’t play because she wasn’t pretty and that she never would be” she fumed
“Did you tell the teacher?” asked Jack watching the blonde girl’s mother
“Well I stood up and shouted at Shannon that I thought Sherry was prettier than her and she is way nicer too. Sherry has a big heart and Shannon’s is just cold. Then she said something about Dad so I kinda hit her” she said sheepishly
“What?” said Jack looking down at his daughter
“I'm sorry Daddy! But she was so mean to sherry!” wailed the girl as she clung to his leg
“Its fine that you stuck up for Sherry and all but remember that hitting people is the wrong thing to do”
“She said you were a bad dad”
“Then I guess I can let you off” smirks Jack
