Sequel: Science & Faith

Fairytales & Lullabies

cause I've never felt so alive.

I hummed along to whatever song was on the radio. I had a broom in my hand and I was trying to dance a little in the kitchen. Thanks to an off day, I was catching up on some cleaning. I had already finished the living room and started a load of laundry.

It was now January. I had been gone from Minnesota for almost five months. I hadn't seen my parents or sister in that same amount of time. I was ready to go back, but just for a visit. Skype sessions and phone calls weren't cutting it. Thank God the team was leaving for my home state in less than a week. Finally, I would be able to show my new friends what Minnesota was all about.

I jumped feeling hand on my shoulder. "Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. I just wanted to see if you needed any help."

I threw the broom at Kris, "You could finish sweeping for me. I'm going to go wash the dishes."

I walked into the kitchen and loaded the dishes into the dish washer. When my favorite song came on, I couldn't help but sing along. I picked up a fork a used it as a microphone for a few seconds, "You may hate me but it ain't no lie. Baby, bye, bye, bye!" I spun around easily on the tile floor with my socks on. I couldn't stop a smile from crossing my face.

I closed the dish washer and turned around. Kris stood there laughing with his hands on top of the broom handle and his chin resting on his hands. A blush immediately came across my face. "What? I can't help it! I just love this song so much!"

"Jordan mentioned something about you dancing in your office. I just never believed you would do something like that. Well, until now." I walked over to him and slapped his arm. "Ouch, that’s not a nice thing to do!"

"I didn't you that hard, you baby!" I stuck my tongue out at him.

"That’s it!" He let the broom fall to the floor and started to tickle me. I tried to get away, but I only got to the couch before Kris sat on me. He made not movements to get up.

"Get off of me!" I tried to shove him off but he wouldn't move.

"Tell me something I don't know about you, and I'll think about it." He grabbed the remote from the coffee table and turned the TV on.

I laughed before answering; "I played tennis in high school." He got up and sat next to me on the couch, his arm naturally fell across the back of the couch.

"Really? Hmm..." Kris never finished his sentence and just stared at me.

"What?" I eyed him suspiciously. I pushed some hair that had fallen in my face behind my ear.

"I never would have guessed that about you." I got up and moved back to the dining room to finish sweeping.

"I guess you'll learn a lot more about me when we go to Minnesota. Which I have a surprise for you and some of the guys on the team.”

“Oh yeah? What is it?” He looked like a kid on Christmas. All he cared about was what he was getting.

“It’s a surprise, but I know you guys will enjoy it.” I smiled. He wasn’t getting any information about it out of me.

“Just tell me. Please?” He tried to pull of a puppy dog look, but it was hard for any grown man to pull it off.

“Nope, but I’ll tell you something else. My parents are coming to the game."

Kris came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. "Really?"

"Yep, they want to see me do my job. My sister’s coming too. She doesn't like hockey as much as I do, but she just wants meet my, in her terms, “smoking hot” boyfriend." I turned around and faced Kris. He had a smirk on his face.

"Her terms? I believe your sister stated a fact. And I think your parents will like me."

I shoved him, but he barely even moved. "Cocky much?"

Kris lifted me up around my waist and kissed me. "If they're anything like you, I'm sure we'll get along." He set me back down on my feet.

"I know they'll love you." He winked at me before walking to the living and sitting down to watch whatever game was on.

All my parents wanted was for me to be happy. I finally had my dream job and someone who cared about me. It was finally safe for me to say I was falling in love with Kris Letang.

I had never felt so much for a person before in my entire life. Everything was about us, not just me. I had no problem with that, as long as Kris was by my side. I picked up the broom and finished sweeping the kitchen. I brought it out to put it in the hall closet, but got distracted by the game on the TV. I watched for a few minutes before meeting Kris’ gaze.

Kris turned his head to see me standing with the broom. He casually winked at me before turning his attention back to the game. And it was safe to say he was falling in love with me too.
