Take a Good Guess

Seven

“Don’t wear that scarf, it’ll clash with the outfit,” I said towards Harry, who only sent a glare in my direction. He has been standing in front of the store’s mirror for almost an hour now, with only me, being a good friend I was, sitting down outside the fitting room throwing comments at his choice of clothing.

“You’re killing me, Hannah,” Harry mumbled, tossing the striped scarf away from him.

“Do you want me to help you or not?” I raised my eyebrows, crossing my hands on my chest; apparently we were already loitering around the streets of New York at 12 in the afternoon to find Harry’s perfect little outfit for his date tonight.

He literally begged me to help him to dress a tiny bit more appealing with his attire. I was quite sure he really liked this mysterious girl he has successfully impressed, earning himself a dinner date at some fancy restaurant located near Times Square tonight.

“I have no idea shopping would be this hard,” He sighed.

“Trust me, Harry,” I scoffed, “you just gotta trust your instinct.”

“Easy for you to say,” He rolled his eyes playfully at me, “You’re a girl.”

I dragged my feet towards the direction of the man accessories collection, scanning the piles of scarves, hats, and beanies before I dug in to find something to match with Harry’s outfit.
He already had his new button-down white shirt tucked inside his khaki-colored pants, with a new leather belt I found to add a little bit color to it. He was already looking rather dashing even though his outfit was yet to be completed; I couldn’t stop noticing the store clerks stealing quick looks towards Harry, I could even swore that I saw her stealing the chance snapping a picture of him with her iPhone.

“Here, try this one,” I threw him an beige scarf towards him, “I think that will work.”

Harry put the article of clothing around his neck, raising his eyebrows at me. “Well?”

“Match it with your black trench coat then you’re good to go,” I said, grinning. Looking rather pleased with my fashion sense.

“Positive?”

“Yup,” I nodded, “I’d even date you myself, Mr. Styles.”

Harry narrowed his eyes at me, a smirk escaped his lips, “What are you on about?” he muttered, “You obviously can’t do that.”

“Why is that?” I snorted as I watched him entering the small squared room to change to his clothes again, “It’s not like I’m dating anyone at the moment.”

“Really, now?” Harry asked teasingly inside the fitting room, his voice showing amusement.
“As much as I love to date you, Hannah, I could never compete with your boy.”

“Who’s my boy?”

Harry’s head snuck out from the blinds; “Seriously?” he rolled his eyes. “Who else?”

“Who? Zayn?” I brought my feet towards the girl’s area of the store, I couldn’t help but to
notice some little pieces I could match with my clothes. “We’re not even dating.”

We’re not even dating.” I heard Harry copied my words, followed by the screeching sound of the blinds being pulled. I saw him already dressed in his casual wear again before waltzing towards the cashier to pay for his clothes.

“Explain this morning then,” He chuckled, fishing out his wallet from his jean pocket.

“I only fell asleep—“

“In his bed, in his arms, in his clothes.”

“Nothing happened, for fuck’s sake!” I rolled my eyes; I could feel my face getting warmer.

“And you’re blushing, of course something happened,” Harry sent a smirk in my way. “Don’t worry, Hannah, I’m good at keeping secrets.”

“I really don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Of course you know,” He took his shopping bag from the clerk, who couldn’t stop giving her awkward smile to Harry’s direction. If only she realized her smile reminded me of the Cheshire cat’s.

He paid for the clothes and pulled me out of the store before the clerk could slip him her number under the receipt. Harry dragged me down the busy streets of the city as the people carried on with their won activities. People were scattered along the road as they minded their own business without even bothering to look our way. Harry kept his hand around my wrist, leading me back to the hotel again.

“I wish you’d just stop denying things,” Harry suddenly said, breaking the silence in the elevator on our way to our floor. “You two obviously fancy each other.”

I sent a quick look at him, “I still don’t know what you’re talking about.”

I caught the sight of Harry shaking his head, chuckling. Hating myself on hoping how right he was.

--

“Hold still!” I yelled for the nth time at Niall, who refused to keep his calm at his seat. I have been trying to cut his hair for the last half hour as he kept on moving around as he tried to finish his plate of pasta, thanks to Paul who decided to buy the boys some Italian food for their lunch. He took a big gulp of water from his bottle beside him, complaining on how spicy the food was.

“I can’t!” he cried, “This is too spicy!”

“Who put those shitload of dried chilies on it then?” I asked, looking down at his plate. Niall’s face flushed with the shade of red, looking down at his food, I was starting to think he’d start throwing up in front of me any second now.

“I did.” My head snapped as Louis suddenly popped out of nowhere beside me, grinning like a fool at the sight of Niall. “I did it as a joke. Sorry, mate.”

Niall only shot him a death glare as he about to pour himself another glass of water.

“Leave the poor guy alone, Lou,” I chuckled as Niall sprinted out of the room to find something to drink, he cursed loudly when he spotted his bottle has ran out of water.

Never leave the poor guy alone, Hannah,” Louis grinned at me, patting on my shoulder before he flumped into the couch. “Mind if I hang around for a while?”

“You’re always hanging around,” I said matter-of-factly, shaking my head at him as I walked towards the bathroom to clean my scissors from cutting Niall’s hair. I was quite positive he would burst into the room any second, considering I haven’t even done the right side of his head.

“Where were you this morning?” I heard Louis asked.

“What do you mean? I was here all morning.”

“You and Harry vanished until noon,” He said again, “Where did you sneak out to?”

“We didn’t sneak out,” I rolled my eyes, “He asked me to help him to find an outfit for his date tonight.”

There was a short pause before I heard Louis again. “His what?”

“Harry’s got himself a date tonight.”

I heard some weird noises from the living room followed by stomping of a person’s feet
towards the bathroom’s direction.

“Harry’s got himself a what?” I saw Louis’ head sticking out from the bathroom’s door.

“A date, Louis, with an American girl, I think,” I laughed at his foolish expression, “What? Are you jealous?”

Louis shot me a hurt look, but it quickly replaced by his sneaky grin that was plastered on his face “Me? Jealous? Are you kidding me, woman? This is gonna be brilliant!” He let out another devious laugh of his that I’ve quite gotten used to hear. “What time?”

“I don’t know, he didn’t—“

“What time?!”

“Eight, I think! God, I’m not sure!” I jumped, smacking Louis for surprising me. “What are you planning on? Are you going to stalk him or something?”

“No,” He said, raising his eyebrows mischievously, “We are going to stalk him.”

I scoffed at his plan, shaking my head as I walked out of the bathroom, leaving him. “You and your most ridiculous plans,” I muttered, “You leave me out of this.”

I saw Louis leaning on the doorframe; the smirk never left his lips. “Don’t make me do this, Hannah.”

“Do what? Threaten me again?” I shot him an annoyed look.

“No,” He stated, “On second thought, we’re not going to stalk him after all. I’m gonna turn this into a double date.”

“A double date?” I narrowed my eyes at him, “Seriously, Lou? You’re not seriously thinking I’d want to go to a dinner date with you—“

“Who said you’re going with me?”

I shot him the most confused look on my face. This time I really didn’t know what was going on in the evil, messed up mind of his. Sometimes I questioned Eleanor how she dealt dating this absurd creature in front of me.

Louis only eyed me with a look, telling me that I already knew that answer myself. After a couple of seconds of awkward silence filling the room, a name finally popped in my mind that sent me falling down onto the bed.

“Don’t you dare, Tomlinson!” I groaned

He only let out a laugh, “Zayn’s going to love this!”

“I’m going to love what?”

Both our heads turned to the voice’s direction, my eyes meeting the gaze of Zayn at my door. He had his coat on and jeans with a plastic bag in his hands as he went inside the room.

“I’m starting to think you have issues with you door, Hannah,” He said.

“I don’t.”

“Then why do you always leave it open?” He chuckled; he stopped in his tracks when his
eyes landed on Louis, who still had his silly grin on his lips. “What are you doing here?”
Zayn asked.

“Hanging around,” He shrugged, “You have a problem with that?”

“No,” said Zayn, “You just don’t usually ‘hang around’ in other rooms except at Harry’s,”

“I already shared a flat with him, you chav,” Louis snorted, “I’m starting to get sick of his curly hair.”

“I thought you’d never say that,” Zayn chuckled; he slipped off his coat and tossed it beside Louis.

“Where have you been, mate?” Louis asked.

“Out with Paul,“ Zayn responded. “Here, I’ve got something for you,” He said, turning to me as he handed me the plastic bag.

“What’s this?” I took the bag from him and noticed it got the same weight of a magazine. I tried to think of anything but it just seemed that I couldn’t get a hold of what was inside, I carefully brought out the object, fearing I would damage it

I felt a gasp escaped my lips. It was the newest edition of The Avengers comic book. It’s been months since I’ve tried to get my hands on this only because all the bookstores I’ve checked ran out of stocks for it.

I brought the book to my chest, looking up to Zayn who had a smile gracing his lips, “Are you kidding me?”

“Far from it,” He said. “That’s the one you’ve been looking for, right?”

“Yes, Oh my God, Zayn!” I jumped to my feet, throwing myself to his arms, “You have no idea how happy I am, thank you!” I was just so happy I’d kiss him, but that would only make things weird because I didn’t forget the fact that Louis was also there.

“Your welcome,” he said, planting a kiss on my forehead. “I’m glad I can pull you out of your torture.”

“You really have no idea,” I giggled, pulling myself away from him. Part of me still longed for his touch though. “I can’t believe you remembered.”

“Remember what?” He asked.

“This,” I said, gesturing to the comic book, “I know I’ve told you about it, but I didn’t expect you to remember it.”

“I remember everything, kiddo,” He said.

“Yes, he remembers everything, yada, yada, yada…” Louis suddenly spoke, “I hate to interrupt your little moment, but I’m still here.”

“We’re aware of that, Lou,” Zayn said, without even bothering to look at him. “Don’t you have anywhere else to be?”

“As the matter of fact, no,” Louis responded.

Zayn and I only glanced at each other and turned to him, Louis was casually lounging on the couch with his feet perched on the coffee table. Looking awfully fascinated with the sight of us.

“I’m here with a purpose actually,” Louis added

Oh dear Lord, here we go again.

“And what’s that?” Zayn asked, taking a seat on the bed.

“Harry is having a date tonight and he’s wondering if you two could join him,” He said casually. I swore I would strangle him to death, as I remained silent in my spot, sending death glares towards his direction.

“That’s not—“ I tried to say.

“He insisted,” Louis said again.

Zayn raised his eyebrows at me, “I don’t see why not,” he shrugged, “Want to go?”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea considering—“

“He insisted! He already reserved the seats for you two, how on earth would you dare to turn him down?” Louis spoke in his most dramatic voice he could sound, which irritated me to my very core. I shot him a questioning look, which he only replied by smirking mischievously towards me.

“Just let him be happy,” Zayn turned to me.

I let out a sigh and fell on the bed beside him, “Fine.”

--

“I can’t believe you agreed to this,” I muttered to Zayn, who was only chuckling as he led me to the car.

“I can’t believe you agreed to this either,” he said.

“It’s not like we have any choice,” I sighed as I slid down inside the car. “That friend of yours has a very absurd way of thinking that—“

“Just try to enjoy it, will you?” Zayn cut me off, closing the car’s door. “Harry even said he’s
okay with it anyway.”

“Yeah, but it’s supposed to be his date night,“ I said, stealing a glance at him. My heart skipped a beat at the sight of him looking all charming with his outfit, he went all dark tonight, from his black framed glasses he decided to wear again to his black trench coat and grey scarf wrapped around his neck, and his light brown sweater paired with his dark colored jeans, don’t forget about his Nike black and white sneakers he decided to put on just to make the outfit a little bit more casual, he really didn’t need any of my advice when it came to clothes, not like the other four anyways.

“You want to go somewhere else? Where do you have in mind then?” He asked me, just as the car started moving towards the restaurant.

“It’s a little too late for that now,” I pouted, turning to him. “Let’s just hope we don’t ruin his perfect date with our presence.”

“Always the optimistic Hannah,” Zayn chuckled, offering his arms, which I gladly crawled
into.

We arrived at the restaurant ten minutes later, finding out that Harry and his date was already sitting down at their table, enjoying their appetizer. Harry caught us entering the packed restaurant; his hands went straight flying into the air, waving at our direction.

“About time you two got here,” Harry said as Zayn and I slipped into our seats.

“You know how terrible the traffic can be,” I said.

“Welcome to New York City,” chimed in the girl in front of me, showing off her perfectly curved lips as she flashed the two of us a smile.

“Everyone, this is Victoria,” Harry introduced the girl as a smile spread wide across his lips.

“Please, call me Vicky,” She grinned.

“That is Hannah and Zayn,” Harry nodded towards us, Zayn only waved his hand at her as he carefully slipped his other one under the table and intertwined his fingers with mine. I felt my heart went brutally faster when he gave a slight squeeze on my knee.

“She’s a true New Yorker,” Harry added again, smiling at her. I could definitely tell that he really fancied the girl. He couldn’t even get his eyes off her.

“Born and raised,” Victoria, or Vicky, said, grinning as she showed her perfect teeth. Her looks was pretty surprising considering that she was raised in the city, only putting on a simple black dress and a pair of heels with minimal accessories, her wavy blonde hair was pulled to a side braid that fell just above her chest, not really a hairstyle that an Upper East Side girl would usually choose. I thought a New York girl would always dress to impress, showing off their designer clothes to everyone, especially when you were on a date with Harry Styles.

“So how did you two meet?” I asked.

“We bumped into each other,” Harry said.

“Literally,” Vicky added with a laugh, sipping on her drink. “I was working at that time at the radio station when the boys had an interview.”

I remembered when the guys arrived back at the hotel without Harry one day. Louis said he
had another ‘private business’ to take care of, maybe that explained it all. Of course Harry would steal the chance to practice his skills in flirting and getting girls to fall for his charms, he was the ladies man of the group after all.

“I tripped and almost fell but—“

“I caught her,” Harry cut her off, smirking at her direction that made Vicky’s cheeks turned the shade of red.

“Yes, luckily,” Vicky said again, gazing her blue eyes to Harry’s green ones. The chemistry shown between the two just killed me, knowing they’ve only met a couple of days ago and already looked like they’ve known each other for years just warmed my heart. It made me actually think if the term ‘love at first sight’ was actually true.

“So Harry decided to ask you out anyway?” Zayn asked her.

“Well, unlike you, I still had the balls to ask a girl I really fancy,” Harry responded.

“What is that suppose to mean?” Zayn laughed, “Are you saying I’m a pussy when it comes to asking a girl out?”

“I’m not saying you’re a pussy, “ Hary scoffed, “Well, from your lack of girlfriends and dates, maybe we can conclude that you need to learn a thing or two from—“

“I just don’t see why I should need any of that,” He cut Harry off.

I stole a glance at Zayn’s direction, who still had his fingers laced with mine. He still had the smirk on his lips, looking like he was also thinking the same as me. But then I caught his eyes meeting my brown ones; the smile on his lips turned wider as he gently squeezed my hand.

I really didn’t know what Harry was saying. Zayn didn’t need to learn anything to make girls swoon at his feet. I was sure millions of them would already fall from his charms without having to try anything. I almost wanted to say I was the example of that.

“What about you guys?” I saw Vicky turning to us, “Are you an, item?

I heard Harry choked while he was trying to sip his drink. He stole an awkward look towards us, looking like he regretted not telling her about his little plan of his and Louis’.

“No, we’re just friends,” Zayn decided to speak.

I couldn’t help but to feel a little bit confused and lost by his choice of words, it’s not like I was expecting he would say we were dating and all that, but I was secretly hoping that he’d say something more than ‘just friends’ from all the gestures and the little trips and the stories we shared. I thought that would make us more than what he just said a while ago.

But then, I wasn’t too sure of my feelings towards him either.

Friends?” Harry chimed in, showing off the curiosity of his face. “very close friends.”

“Oh, it’s a shame,” Vicky said, “You two really look like a couple.”

I could feel a smile tugging on the corner of my lips, already feeling the butterflies in my stomach as Vicky said those words. I also saw Zayn showing off a small smile in the corner of my eyes.

“Why is that?” Zayn suddenly asked, his hands on mine didn’t move an inch.

“I don’t know,” Vicky only shrugged, taking a bite of a calamari. “You two just seem to,
connect.”

“Oh, they connect with each other all right,” Harry added, smirking. “They even shared a bed
together and still consider them as friends.”

I only shot a glare towards Harry, who looked terribly pleased at his choice of words. Vicky only looked confused at the conversation that was going, I almost felt sorry for her. We obviously just ruined her little date with Harry.

“Please, don’t mind Harry,” I turned to Vicky, “He has his own way of saying things that are complete imaginary—“

“But you two did share a bed together,” Harry spoke again.

“Do we really need to talk about this?” I snapped my head at Harry, “Am I the only one who
feels it’s a bit inappropriate to—“

“I’m only stating a fact, Hannah,” he said again, “It’s no big deal.”

“You shared a bed together, that’s sweet,” Vicky laughed, “I’m dead serious, you two really
look like a couple at first glance.”

“Thanks,” Zayn said, adjusting his glasses. “It’s funny when I only consider her as a sister.”

I felt myself turning to him, looking as confused as ever. Now I really didn’t get what he was talking about. My face fell as he spoke those words. Part of me didn’t want to believe it, but the other part was trying to tell me that Zayn himself did say it.

I slipped away my fingers from him, turning away. I saw he noticed the sudden change from me, but I saved myself the torture by not looking at his eyes again. From all those times we spent together, I couldn’t help but to grow a little, no, huge crush on him. But it seemed that he only saw me as a ‘sister’ in his eyes. Now I felt like a complete idiot in hoping he would see myself more than ‘just friends’ to him.

I really don’t understand how boys’ mind works.
