The Alphabet Challenge

Jack climbed into Zack's bunk next to him and cuddled into his side "Hello" he whispered and Zack smiled back at him before kissing Jack's head that had snuggled its way up under Zack's chin.

The couple stayed silent for a long while before Jack started to fidget. He traced some of the patterns from the tattoos that covered Zack's bare chest and arms.
"Hey Zack?" he whispered and received a hum in return.
Jack propped himself up on his elbows so that he was leaning over Zack "Why do you have so many tattoos?"

Zack frowned at Jack, misinterpreting the question
"I like them" reassured Jack "I really do, I love them but why do you have so many?"

Zack looked up at Jack for a long moment before shrugging
"There has to be a reason" prompted Jack and Zack took a deep breath
"I don't want to forget" he whispered eventually
"Forget what?" asked Jack confused
"Any of the good things that happen in my life"
Jack nodded his head slowly, trying to understand
"Each tattoo is a reminder" said Zack softly "and I don't want to forget anything because . . . well you only live once"
