Love's Spiral

Derek had allowed Spencer to sleep through the night. He would wake her if he heard Kate or one of her henchmen coming back. Derek knew that she would need sleep if they were going to get out of the cellar. It would also help the both of them if she had some strength to use what powers she knew. They weren’t going to get away from Kate and her madness without some sort of fight. Derek knew that he would fight. He would fight until he couldn’t anymore. Spencer’s self-sacrificing act of coming to find him proved that she was worth the pain. She cared, really cared, about him. It wasn’t like Kate. It helped the Spencer didn’t look at him differently now that she knew the truth about how his family died. Her pale blue eyes still had the soft quality that they always did when she looked to him.

Spencer awoke on her own this time. She was well-rested and thankful for some sleep. She sat up against the wall and looked up at Derek. He looked exhausted. He must not have let himself fall asleep or even doze off. He was a completely different person with his guard down. Peaceful, almost.

Derek hadn’t noticed that she’d woken up yet. He was staring at the floor, probably into his own mind, planning, if he still cared enough to get out of the cellar.

“Derek.” Spencer sighed.

He quickly looked up to her and hardened his expression.

“How long has she been gone?”

“Almost all day. Its dark out now. You’ve been asleep for a few hours.”

“Thanks for watching over me. I really needed the sleep. I feel better now. Not so shocked.” Spencer joked.

Derek glared at her.

“Okay, so we’re still not in the mood for jokes.” Spencer replied. She looked around the dark room, barely lit by the moonlight. She thought about what her best friends were doing right now. She wondered if the two of them were too worried to even go to the formal. Maybe they did and Scott made up with Allison. Spencer didn’t know how she would feel about that. Especially not after meeting her crazy aunt. Maybe this was how her entire family really was. Spencer didn’t want anything to do with that. “What do you think happened to her?”

“I don’t know.”

“I mean, she’s normally back more often than this. Maybe it had something to do with that voicemail she got from Allison’s dad.”

“I don’t care.” Derek snapped.

“Sorry.”

Derek cursed himself. “You heard that?”

Spencer nodded. “I’ve managed to control my senses. I’ve been taking lessons with Deaton. The guy thought was the alpha.”

“The vet?”

Spencer nodded. “He knew my dad a long time ago. I’m guessing before he went murderously crazy. He only had good things to say about my dad, probably realizing that I was really sensitive about the subject.”

Derek looked down again. He really did feel sorry for Spencer. Her father got caught up on his uncle’s crazy train.

A howl drew both Derek Spencer from their throughs. Derek lifted his head at the sound.

“Derek?” Spencer questioned. “Isn’t that Scott?”

Derek didn’t respond. His face changed to one of determination and his eyes started glowing their icy blue color. The next thing Spencer did was crush her shoulders to her ears as best she could to muffle the sound of Derek’s loud roar.

“Derek!” Spencer shouted over the sound, overwhelmed by the noise. Somehow winds started blowing in the room, making the dust, dirt, and rocks fly around the redhead.

Derek’s howling stopped and he noticed the breezes flowing around Spencer. “Red!” Derek bellowed. “Magic. You’re doing magic.” He pointed out.

Spencer managed to unravel herself and look around her, but the breezes stopped and everything that had been blowing around, came to a standstill. Spencer breathed a laugh and smiled. Everything dropped, showering her with debris, but she didn’t care. She didn’t feel weak anymore. She could probably get herself out and help Derek. They were getting out of there, alive, and with Scott’s help.

“Red, you need to unlock my chains.” Derek told her.

“I don’t know if I can do that from here. If I get my chains done first, I’ll help you with yours.”

“And what happens if Kate or her friend comes back? You can’t fight them off. I can.” Derek reasoned.

Spencer was unsure. She might be able to fight them.

“Spencer, unlock my cuffs and I promise I will get you out.”

Spencer looked up at Derek with hopeful eyes. She had to trust him. She knew things about him that other people didn’t. He didn’t deny them either. Spencer nodded. She focused her attention on one of the shackles attached to Derek’s wrist.

With his own eyes focused on Spencer, Derek hoped that she could do this. Every could seconds he would try to wriggle his hand free, but it wouldn’t ever budge. “Red, you can do this.”

Spencer ignored Derek’s encouragement, not sure if it would actually help. She knew the unlocking charm; she’s used it before. Spencer knew it would work. It was always about belief.

Derek’s head snapped towards the doorway. “Someone’s coming. C’mon, Spencer, you can do this. You have to get me out.”

“You’re not helping.” Spencer mumbled.

The giant metal door swung open and Derek’s head faced the ground again. Spencer focused on the shackle a little more discreetly.

The bald guy that tortured Derek before came in and turned the spotlight on him.

Spencer noted the baseball bat that was in his hand and her determination went through the roof. Finally, the lock silently unlocked. Derek felt it loosen and held it in place.

“Ready to have some more fun?” The guy said. “To be honest,” He said, holding up a fist, “my knuckles are kind of hurting. So I brought some help.” The man lifted the bat up. “I might end this party by taking a few swings at your girlfriend this time.” He wickedly glanced back at Spencer, who raised an eyebrow to him. The man narrowed his eyes at the girl and then returned his gaze to Derek, pointing to him with the bat. “I should warn you. I used to play in college.” The man swung the bat behind him and then with all his might, flung it at Derek.

Derek easily caught the bat with his right hand. “I brought a little help, too.” Derek said.

Both the man and Spencer’s gazes turned behind them.

Scott stood in the doorway.

“Scott.” Spencer sighed, happily.

With the man distracted, Derek punched him hard, sending him flying towards the wall Spencer was on.

Spencer quickly moved out of the way, not taking a relaxing breath until she noticed that the man was unconscious.

Derek ripped off the electric panel that was taped to his side. “Scott, help me with this.” Derek said in a breath.

Scott walked forward, standing in front of Derek. “No.”

“What?” Both Spencer and Derek questioned at the same time.

“Not until you tell me how to stop Peter and Spencer’s dad.”

“You really want to talk about this right now?” Derek challenged.

“He’s going after Allison and her family.”

“Scott, maybe that’s not such a bad thing considering that Allison’s family is going after us.” Spencer rationalized.

“He’s going to kill them.” Scott glanced back at Spencer.

“So? Kate nearly killed us!”

“Tell me how to stop him.” Scott demanded of Derek.

“You can’t!” Derek forced. “Alright? Now…” Derek tried to force himself out of the chains, but they wouldn’t budge. He glanced at Spencer.

“I’ve got nothing left.” Spencer said, defeated.

Derek looked to Scott. “I don’t know when Kate’s coming back, so just get me out of this right now! Get me out right now!” He threatened.

“Promise you’ll help me.” Scott stressed.

“You want me to risk my life for your girlfriend, huh?” Derek challenged. “For your stupid little teenage crush that means absolutely nothing?”

Spencer’s heart felt. She was just a teenager to him. It’s how he really felt. What he was saying about Scott and Allison could also be directed towards her.

“You’re not in love, Scott. You’re sixteen years old! You’re a child!”

Scott nodded.

“Are you actually listening to him? Scott, how could you think he’s even close to being right? You know exactly how you feel. You love Allison. I know it. I can see it.”

“No, he doesn’t.” Derek snapped, not meeting Spencer’s gaze, keeping his eyes on Scott.

“Maybe you’re right.” Scott said, so soft that Spencer could barely hear it.

“Scott…” Spencer whispered.

“But,” Scott continued, “I know something you don’t.”

Derek face changed. He was curious. How could this kid know something to the puzzle that he didn’t? Derek knew all sides of the story now.

“Peter said he didn’t know what he was doing when he killed your sister, right?” Scott pulled a folded up paper out of his pocket. “He lied.” He held the paper up to Derek. “Remember this?”

Derek looked at the paper in disbelief.

“Derek?” Spencer questioned. “What is it?”

“This is what brought your sister back to Beacon Hills, right?” Scott asked Derek, ignoring Spencer’s question.

“Where did you get that?”

“My boss told me three months ago someone came into the clinic asking for a copy of this picture. Do you want to know who it was?” Scott asked rhetorically. “Peter’s nurse. They brought your sister here so that Peter could kill her and become the alpha. That’s why you’re going to help me.”

Derek was angry now. His face showed it all.

Spencer looked to him. “We’ll help, Scott. We need to get out of here, first. As much as I can, I will help.”

Derek leaned back against the gate, telling Scott that he wasn’t going to help.

Spencer groaned.

Scott turned moving to try and help Spencer out of her chains. “Just say you’ll help me, and I’ll help you unlock your other…” Scott trailed off, hearing the sound of bending metal. He turned around.

Derek had pulled himself out of his handcuff.

Spencer groaned. “You couldn’t have done that hours ago?”

Drek ignored Spencer’s sarcastic remark. “I’ll help you.” He told Scott, rubbing his wrists. Derek stumbled to Spencer and fell at her feet to help pull off the shackles around her ankles.

Scott followed helping with the ones around her wrists.

Spencer glanced up at Derek and he forcefully tried to pull the metal apart from one of her legs. “I am just some kid. Aren’t i?”

Derek met her gaze, studying her for a second.

“I mean, after what you said to Scott about Allison, how could you not think the same about me?”

Derek deeply sighed and with one quick pull, the other cuff was off of her joint. “Help me up.” He ordered both Scott and Spencer, once she was completely free. They both got to their feet and put one of his arms around each of their shoulders. They practically carried him out of the basement through the tunnels that they came in through.

Once they reached the outside, Spencer nearly rejoiced at feeling the night breeze on her skin. She might have actually done it had Scott not pulled away from Derek when he slowed down. Spencer was trying to carry most of Derek’s weight. All three were breathing heavily as they exited the tunnels, eager to get away. “I need to stop.” Spencer said, realizing that she couldn’t hold all of the weight.

“Hold on.” Derek panted. “Hold on.”

Scott stopped a little in front of them.

Derek managed to stand alone, but Spencer stayed close to his side. “Something doesn’t feel right.” Derek said, glancing around.

“What do you mean?” Spencer asked. “We’re out. Alive. Both of us.”

“I know, but it was… It was kind of like it was…”

“No!” Scott interrupted. “Don’t say ‘too easy’. People say ‘too easy’ and bad things happen.”

“Don’t we know it, Scott.” Spencer joked, recalling many of their shenanigans.

Derek shrugged.

“Do you think that finding you was easy?” Scott asked Derek. “Getting away from Allison’s dad? None of this had been easy.” Scott stressed.

Derek sighed. “Fine. You’re right.”

Scott nodded exaggeratedly, like Stiles normally would. “Thank you.”

There was a loud rush of wind in their direction and Derek stumbled on his feet.

“Derek?” Spencer questioned, grabbing onto him to hold him up. There was an arrow in his shoulder. “Derek!” Both Spencer and Scott followed where the arrow came from.

Kate was knelt amongst the leaves with Allison. “Now the leg.” Kate ordered to Allison.

A second arrow whooshed past, hitting Derek’s thigh.

Spencer couldn’t hold him up anymore and the two fell to the ground.

“Flash bolt.” Kate said to Allison.

Scott couldn’t take his eyes off of the sight of Allison on her aunt’s side.

“Scott! Cover your eyes!” Spencer yelled at him.

“Now.” Kate directed.

Allison let the bow string go and the arrow flew into a tree, creating a flash that reminded Spencer of the first night she’d ever even knew the truth about Scott and Derek. Scott fell to the ground, trying to avoid the arrow.

“Get them out.” Derek told Spencer as he sat up and reached for the arrow that had impaled his shoulder.

Spencer moved down to the one in his leg and pulled without a second thought. She panicked when it wouldn’t budge. “It’s not coming out.”

“Break it.” Derek groaned against the pain.

Spencer took a deep breath, channeling the little bit of each of her friends that she had in her. With the strength of them, she was able to easily break the arrow like it was a toothpick.
Derek then pushed her up onto her feet and away from him.

Spencer ran to Scott and helped him up. He wasn’t helping, and Spencer had lost the strength she had seconds ago.

Derek was right behind her. He grabbed Scott by his jacket and picked him up, pulling him alone. His other arm went around Spencer, pushing her towards the house. Derek tried to stumble alone, but his leg still had the arrow in it and it hurt to put the pressure on it that he needed to run. “Spencer, take Scott and go!” He ordered, falling to the ground after throwing Scott in front of him.

“No.” Spencer said, reaching for Derek’s arm. “I’m not going anywhere.”

“Run!”

“Shut up!” Spencer ordered. “If I’m going, you’re coming.”

Derek pushed her away from him. She tripped and landed next to Scott in the leave.s.

Scott still couldn’t see perfectly and he rubbed at his eyes as he turned onto his backside.

Spencer turned, too, glancing at Derek with sorrow-filled eyes

Allison and Kate were coming their way.

“Allison, I can explain.” Scott begged.

“Stop lying.” Allison retorted. “For once, stop lying.”

“Just listen to him!” Spencer pleaded.

“I was gonna tell you the truth at the formal.” Scott insisted. “I was gonna tell you everything. Because everything that I said, everything that I did…”

“Was to protect me.” Allison finished, nodding.

“Yes.” Scott admitted.

Allison shook her head.

“God, Allison!” Spencer exasperated. “What the hell is wrong with you? Scott’s been nothing but amazing to you, even knowing what your family did.” The three just sat in silence waiting for someone to say something next.

“I don’t believe you.”

Kate groaned as she walked up. “Thank God. Now, shoot him before I have to shoot myself.”

Allison looked to her aunt, confused. “You… You said we were just gonna catch them?”

Kate nodded. “We did that. Now we’re gonna kill them.” As Kate got closer to Derek, who was trying to back away; she pointed the gun at him and shot him.

Derek fell back against the ground, turned over. They couldn’t tell if he was alive or not.

“Derek!” Spencer shouted. She looked to him then to Kate.

“See? Not that hard.” Kate boasted.

Spencer’s eyes narrowed. She pushed herself off of the ground, not even knowing if she was using her magical force or her actual hands. She marched in front of Kate and threw her fist at her face, this time, knowingly channeling her magic.

Kate recovered from the hit quickly and threw Spencer down next to Derek. “I should have known you’d be trouble. You’ve got some spunk behind you. We should stop that.” Kate said, pointing her gun down at Spencer.

Spencer shivered with fear at the weapon pointed at her.

Kate only lowered the gun from Spencer’s face and then shot the redhead in the leg.

Spencer screamed at the impact, but couldn’t really feel the pain just yet. With all the adrenaline running through her body, it barely felt like a pinch. Spencer leaned over, trying to wake up Derek, hoping that he was still alive.

Kate joined Allison in front of Scott. “Oh, no…” Kate clicked her tongue. “I know that look. That’s the ‘you’re gonna have to do it yourself’ look.” Kate clicked her tongue a second time, pointing her gun at Scott.

Spencer’s attention went to her best friend at this point. “Scott…” She said, fearful for him, and fearing the loss of her friend.

“Kate.” Allison stuttered. “Kate, what are you doing?” Allison tried to push her aunt away, but Kate only pushed Allison to the ground.

Kate shook her head at the sight of Scott on the ground in front of her. “I love those brown eyes.” Kate admitted.

“Kate!” a male voice called. Allison’s dad walked up, his own gun in his hand. Everyone’s attention went to him. “I know what you did. Put the gun down.” Chris ordered. Scott’s eyes flicked back and forth between Chris and Kate. Spencer was trying to focus on Scott. Maybe she could use her force field again.

“I did what I was told to do.” Kate told him.

“No one asked you to murder innocent people. There were children in that house.” He gestured to the Hale House. “Ones who were human. Look what you’re doing now. You’re holding a gun at a sixteen year old boy and you’ve shot his friend. No proof either of them has spilled human blood. We go by the code.” Chris paused before speaking a few words of French.

“We hunt those who hunt us.” Allison translated.

Kate’s finger tightened around the trigger.

Chris raised his gun to his sister. “Put the gun down.”

Kate straightened, not believing Chris would shoot her.

However, a second later, Chris pulled his trigger, barely missing her. The bullet hit the tree behind her.

Kate’s head snapped to the tree and then slowly turned back to her brother.

“Or I’ll put you down.”
