Throwing Stones at Glass Houses

Chapter 19

I bit my lip and walked down stairs. I took Jack's car keys from the counter and headed out the front door. I walked outside. "Where you going," Chris said taking a long drag on his cigarette. "To the store," I said. "Mind if I tag along," he asked putting the cigarette out. "Of course not," I said unlocking the car. I hopped in and drove to CVS. Parked the car and took the keys out. There were a group of guys hanging by the entrance. One of them whistled and me and I freaked out. Chris grabbed me by the waist pretending like I was his. They all looked away. "So what are you going to get," he said following me down the aisle. I grabbed a box of black hair dye from the shelf. "This I said," I said showing him the box. He grabbed it. I followed behind Chris as we walked to the counter. I went to hand the guy behind the counter my money but Chris beat me to it. "Chris why did you pay for it," I asked him. "Well, I wanted to," he said handing me the plastic bag with the dye in it. When we got back to the house I walked in the front door. "Where the hell did you go with my car," Jack asked me pissed off. I took the cars and threw them at his head. "Stella get back here now," he yelled as I stormed up the steps. I stopped and turned to look at him. “No, Jack,” I said, my eyes narrow. I went to turn again. Alex walked out from one of the rooms to join Jack. “You’re so childish,” Jack spat. “Screw you,” I said in reply. Alex chuckled a bit. “Screw you too,” I spat at Alex turning to go back up the steps. I turned back around again, “Know what, why don’t the two of you just go screw each other.” I continued up the steps to hear dead silence from the boys, “Not so funny now is it.” Chris followed behind me. He sat down on my bed. "What's wrong Stella," Chris said. I sat next to him. I snuggled into his body and he carefully placed his arms around me. I took in his scent. He smelt of cologne and cigarettes. It was a calming scent to me, but I'm not so sure why. "Nothing," I said looking at him. "I'm not convinced," he said. "Just shut up and help me dye my hair," I said. Chris helped me put the black dye on my tips. We sat in my room talking and joking around as we waited for my hair to take in the dye. "Time to take it out. I flipped my head into the sink and washed out my hair. I squeezed out the extra water and sat on my bed. "I think I should be heading home now," Chris said standing up. I hugged him. "Bye," I said closing my door behind him. I laid on my bed thinking about what happened with Zack said before. I was still in Vic's sweats. I remembered I had left my sweatshirt at Vic's. I laid there with my phone in my hand. My phone started ringing. I picked it up, "Hello?"
