I'll Carry You Home Tonight

Chapter 4

I walked in to the kitchen to see my mother and sister cooking dinner I dropped my bag by the door and sat down at the breakfast bar

“Hey honey how was school?”

“Pretty good”

“Pretty good because of a girl?”

I rolled my eyes trying to hide my smirk, my mum was always pressuring me in to finding a nice girl to settle down with, she made it abundantly clear that she suspected I was gay because I had never brought a girl back with me

“Maybe”

I replied nonchalantly my mother let out a whoop of sheer delight and rachels jaw dropped open

“Oh honey I’m so happy for you”

She cooed and kissed my cheek whilst hugging me tightly

“Mum I only said maybe why do you jump to conclusions!”

She let go disappointed
“Youre right I should wait for proof”

“You should”
Rachel glared from across the kitchen

“He is bluffing! He probably hooked up with that weird Nate kid again!”
I glared back

“You’re only jealous because you want him”

“Shut the fuck up weirdo”

She huffed out as I laughed at her my mother shook her head

“Will you two just love each other!”

“I tried”

She sighed and I walked out heading up to my room , I laid down on my neatly made bed and pulled my cell out of my pocket

“1 new message”

My heart raced as I clicked read

“thanks for the chat today Jack I really needed it lots of love Amber xxx”

My stomach flipped over and over again lots of love? Before thinking I replied

“Yw do you fancy meeting up tomorrow? Jack xx”

“sure I’ll see you on the field at 2”

My heart raced again as I pulled the duvet over my head thinking of what she would look like out of her dance kit wearing normal clothes, cute jeans and a shirt, I smiled to my self imagining her with her hair loose and not scrapped back in to her usual tight pony tail.

I suddenly freaked out not knowing what I was going to wear I sprang up and opened the doors to my wardrobe only to see slogan t-shirts plaid shirts and multiple pairs of jeans I sighed and began to search through carefully picking and coordinating my outfit for tomorrow

I picked up my guitar and grabbed my keys and phone before leaving I walked towards Ambers house, I purposely left half an hour early to pick her up putting my key in the ignition I flicked through the cds that had culminated in my car picking one to grab her attention.

I pulled up outside her house and walked towards the door, I clenched my fist ready to knock before I could the visibly worn blue door swung open and there she was stood, Amber, with a pleasantly surprised look on her face,

“Jack? Hey!”

She was a vision of sheer simplistic beauty, her dark hair tumbled over her shoulders in neatly tonged loose waves, her eyes framed by black kohl pencil and clump free mascara, her lips with a slick of red lipstick, her tightly toned mid drift and pierced navel was being shown by a cropped mighty boosh shirt and a tied red and black plaid shirt, her muscle tone in her leg was being displayed by tight fitting grey skinny jeans, the whole outfit topped off by red high top converse all stars.

My voice stuck in my throat for a second as her delicate scent washed over me

“Hi I thought I’d come pick you up”

“that’s sweet, well I’m ready when you are”

I smiled and rattled my keys

“Well lets go then”
She jumped in to the passenger seat nervously as we pulled away from her house, she looked out of the window dreamily, I wondered what was going through her mind, probably her nana.

We drove past the field she was expecting to sit on and she turned and looked at me,

“Jack where are we going”

“You’ll see I winked back”

A smirk spread across her rosy cheeks as she settled comfortably in to her seat waiting for the car to stop and see what her surprise destination was.

It wasn’t too much longer before I pulled on to a small gravel clearing and parked up she looked at me

“what the fuck is this place?”

“one of my favourite spots you’ll see why follow me”

She looked confused as we walked down a woodland path, she slowly reached out and gently took my hand I looked down at her hand and then looked up to her face

“Sorry just makes me feel safer”

“that’s fine”

I pushed some bushes apart and pulled her through behind me I looked back wanting to see her face as we came to a small grass clearing that was over looking a clear blue lake. Her jaw dropped and she slowly stepped forward in awe looking around and soaking up her surroundings.
We sat down and chatted for what felt like hours and as the sun began to set she rested her head on my lap and I stroked her hair,

“wait here”

She sat up confused as I left the clearing and went back to the car pulling out a guitar and a ready packed picnic basket with a blanket I walked back to see Amber skipping stones across the lake

“Hey I’m back”

She turned quickly and smiled at me

“You brought your guitar”

“and a picnic”

She sat down and pulled me down with her a smile spread from ear to ear, I began to pluck a few chords on my guitar and she began to sing along recognising the song I was attempting to play, her voice was like satin smooth and comforting it lingered in my mind long after she was gone.

I flopped on to my bed later that night the day still haunting me making me feel euphoric her voice still floating through my mind keeping me awake.

I wasn’t sure what I felt but I knew whatever it was I felt it for Amber
