Two Worlds Collide

Chapter 10

After leaving the storage room, Adam and Ava returned to the party only to be welcomed by a very drunk Blake. Ava didn't realize that they were gone long enough for Blake to get hammered.
"How are you getting home Blake?" Asked Ava and Blake looked to get stupidly.
"Uh, I'll be driving myself of course." He said and Ava laughed as did Adam.
"No I don't think so buddy," chuckled Adam as he put an arm around his friend. "I think we'll drive you back to your house." Adam glanced to Ava who nodded surely.
"It's almost one. We should probably get going before too long." Said Ava and Adam nodded in agreement.
"Especially with this guy," he rolled his eyes in the direction for Blake who was looking to the flashing lights above him with wonder. Blake pointed to the fixtures.
"Look. They're all so sparkly and pretty and.." He never finished his sentence because he was in too much awe to conjure up any more words.
Ava laughed and shook her head. "Let's go cowboy," she said, helping Adam steer him towards the door. They stumbled out in a heap to Adam's car and Ava loaded Blake into the back seat as gently as possible-but he was a tall guy and Ava was on the shorter side, so it wasn't easy.
"Okay big guy, there you go," she grunted while lowering him into the seat. Blake made a sudden reach for Ava's breasts and she made a sound of surprise. "Oh! No! Not there," she laughed as Adam came around the car.
"What?" He asked as Ava successfully got Blake into the car.
"He tried to grab my boobs," said Ava with a laugh and Adam's mouth dropped open as he laughed.
"Oh god. I apologize on his behalf." Adam cringed as he opened he door for Ava who waved a hand.
"Don't worry about it." She said and Adam shook his head in disbelief.
The drive back to Blake's L.A home was full of slurred comments and questions coming from a very intoxicated country star. Ava had a hard time keeping her composure when Blake went into a very detailed description of his penis. Adam tried cutting him off many times but Blake insisted he go on.
"Jesus Blake, when are you gonna pass out?" Asked Adam in exasperation.
"I, am not going to pass out, Adam you wonderful son of a bitch." replied Blake and Ava finally doubled over laughing, covering her face with her hands. Adam snickered as well and Blake sat in the back looking to the two of them in confusion. "What the hell are you two going off about? What's so damn funny?" he asked and Adam shook his head.
"Nothing buddy, how about we listen to some of your music, huh?" asked Adam as he flicked on the radio to a country music station.
Ava smirked. "So you'll put it on for the 'King of Country Guys' but not for your poor old girlfriend?" she asked him, pouting as Adam chuckled.
"Well you're not shit faced, are you?" he asked and she shrugged.
"Fair enough, but I shouldn't have to be." she said and Adam rolled his eyes.
"One night of not getting your music is going to make you hate me?" he asked and Ava smiled.
"Not hate you, but strongly dislike maybe." she said and Adam laughed.
"Strongly dislike..." he trailed and Ava sighed.
"You know what I just realized?" asked Ava as Adam glanced in the rear view mirror.
"That Blake's finally passed out?" asked Adam in return and Ava looked over her shoulder to see just that.
"Awe, that's cute...In a kind of a weird way." she said before laughing and turning back in her seat. "But no," she shook her head. "I realized that people are always saying how hate is such a strong word. But so is love, and people throw that around like it's nothing." she told him and Adam nodded.
"True, true. Smart girl," he agreed and Ava smirked.
"Thank you." Ava smiled. "I'm hungry," she groaned while looking out the window.
Adam looked over to her, humored. "It's nearly one in the morning and you're hungry?" He asked her and Ava nodded.
"Hey," Ava began. "I only ate last at seven." She told him as Adam nodded.
"Fair enough," he said before chuckling. "I just love how upfront you are about it." He shook his head. "Every other girl would just make themselves go hungry." He told her as Ava cringed.
"We'll that's awful. I eat when I'm hungry." She said with a bit of an embarrassed laugh.
"I'm glad you do," said Adam as he turned up a small street with quiet houses lining the sides.
Adam pulled up a driveway to a gate and pressed a buzzer button.
"Hello?" Came a woman's voice through the speaker.
"Hey Miranda it's Adam. Look, I have your passed out husband in the back of my car. Could I bring him in?" Asked Adam as Miranda chuckled.
"Oh gosh Blake..." She trailed. "Yes, bring the idiot inside." She said with another laugh before letting Adam drive
in.
As they drove up Ava saw the house was large, and warmly lit inside. Miranda's small shadow cast out into the porch to meet them as Adam pulled to a stop. Ava got out to help with the intoxicated Blake.
"Hey Miranda," said Adam. "Miranda this is Ava, my girlfriend, and Ava this is Blake's lovely wife." Adam introduced them while the women shook hands.
"Oh wow, he really did it this time didn't he?" Said Miranda as Adam hauled Blake out of the car.
"We were gone for all of..what?" Asked Ava looking to Adam. "Forty five minutes? And we come back and he is just hammered." Laughed Ava as Miranda shook her head while she and Adam saw Blake up to the porch.
"He probably challenged someone and couldn't let his country pride take a hit..." Suspected the small woman. "Blake's an idiot sometimes." She laughed as Ava opened the front door for them. "I can take it from here Adam," said Miranda, ready to take on the weight of the tall man.
"You're sure?" Asked Adam as Ava looked between them unsurely.
"Yeah, this isn't the first time he's been dragged home." She rolled her eye as Adam gently distributed all of Blake's weight onto Miranda's small shoulders. She seemed surprisingly content with have all 200 pounds on her.
"Okay..." He trailed while taking a step back.
"Thank you both, it was nice meeting you Ava." Said Miranda as she took Blake inside. "Goodnight." She said before Ava pulled the door closed after both her and Adam mumbled a goodbye in return.
"Well she might be small but she sure is..sturdy." Laughed Ava as they walked back down the steps to the car.
"Yeah, no kidding." Adam chuckled. "So," he began as Ava got in. "Where to?" He asked as he himself ducked into the car.
"What?" Asked Ava, her eyebrows wrinkled in confusion.
Adam smiled as he pulled out. "You said you were hungry." He reminded her. "So where do you want to go?" He asked again and Ava laughed before answering.
"Oh, I totally forgot for a second. Okay...well I guess it will have to be somewhere twenty four hours, eh?" She said and then thought. "See if there's a Wendy's somewhere close," she said. "I think if you get back onto ninth and cut back onto Hallcast there's a Wendy's like four blocks down." Said Ava as Adam followed her directions.
"How do you know exactly where it is?" he asked, amused.
Ava smirked and shrugged. "Lets just say I've been here a couple of times."
Adam glanced over at her with a grin and laughed. "I'd venture a guess of more than fifteen times...?" he asked her as Ava nodded.
"That sounds about right." she agreed as Adam laughed and pulled into the drive thru. "Order two fries and two frosty's." she told him quickly.
Adam placed in the order and then drove up. "Why those two things?" he asked as Ava grinned.
"I'll show you. Just get the food." Ava laughed at herself as Adam looked to her strangely.
"You're weird." he muttered with a shake of his head as Ava laughed again.
"Shut up Adam," she replied, sitting up straighter as she grabbed his face and turned it towards hers. Ava kissed him unexpectedly as they waited for the window to open. She pulled away just as she saw the employee coming towards them.
"What was that about?" he asked as Ava smiled and shrugged. Adam couldn't help but smile when she smiled-it was so infectious.
"I don't know...I just kinda felt like it." she said simply as Adam accepted the food and paid. He handed the food over to Ava who took it greedily.
Adam swung his car around into the parking lot and parked, as Ava unbuckled to allow herself more freedom. "Okay," she said turning to him. "You gotta eat it this way," she showed him, taking a fry and dipping it into the chocolate ice cream and popping it in her mouth.
Adam cringed a bit. "Does that even taste good?" he asked as Ava looked to him stunned.
"Of course it tastes good you idiot! It tastes so good!" She grinned, eating another.
Adam sighed. "Alright..I'm trusting you on this." he said unsurely, dipping the fry into his own ice cream and then putting it in his mouth. Adam chewed slowly as Ava awaited the verdict.
"Good right?" she asked him as Adam grabbed another three and dipped them all in at the same time.
"This is possibly the greatest fast food I've ever had!" he exclaimed, eating more.
Ava laughed. "What did I tell you?"
They continued eating, sharing stories. Adam told her how his brother once managed to get ice cream up his nose, and he was freaking out to his mom. That got Ava laughing pretty hard. Then Ava explained to him the story behind how she once managed to eat every flavour of ice cream in the parlour, and then threw it all up on the manager after. Adam was gasping for breath until the end of the tale. They found talking to one another so easy; so simple. They didn't need to try and think about what to talk about. They talked about anything and everything.
This is probably the first relationship in a while where it's not all physically based... Adam thought to himself as Ava went on talking about her fourth grade camping trip, and how she was responsible for a nest of wasps attacking one girl for taking her teddy bear.
When they finished their meal, Ava got out and took the garbage to the trash can. Adam admired her body as she walked away from him. She was thin, but had curves in all the right places. And the dress she was wearing made them even better to look at. Adam couldn't help but think of when they would finally have their way with each other. Adam didn't want to rush Ava, but at the same time he was having a hard time controlling himself from imagining what it would be like.
Adam's thoughts broke when he saw Ava motioning outside the car for him to meet her out there. A bit puzzled, Adam got out and met her at the hood of the car.
"Something wrong?" asked Adam as Ava shook her head.
"No, no, just look up." she said.
They both looked skyward and saw the brightest star they'd ever seen. It put all the other dim twinkling specs to shame, shining brightly in the dark sky.
"Whoa," said Adam. "I've never seen that before."
"Isn't it beautiful?" she asked him, Ava's eyes never leaving the sky.
Adam looked over to her, and then took her hand. "It is," he agreed. He turned Ava towards him. "How about that can be our star now?" he asked her as Ava laughed.
"Wow Adam, I don't know if I'm ready for this step in our relationship. We've got a star now? This is all moving so quickly.." she trailed with humour, looping her arms around his neck.
Adam chuckled. "Maybe moving quickly isn't such a bad thing," he told her, leaning in a bit.
Ava nodded, biting her lip. "That's possible," she agreed, looking back up to the star above them.
"Hey," said Adam, getting her attention. She looked back to him as he just smiled a little and kissed her softly. Ava responded by pulling him closer while Adam deepened the kiss, exploring Ava's mouth. Adam pulled back just a little and smiled. "Lets go," he said, going around to open the door for her.
The drive back to Adam's was quiet but nice. Their hands stayed looped at the console, and at a red light or intersection either one would lean over and plant a kiss somewhere. Adam learned Ava's neck was particularly sensitive, and told himself to keep that in mind.
Too soon it seemed though, Adam was pulling into the parking lot of Ava's apartment. He got out, and went around the car to open it for her just in time. Ava smiled.
"Thanks," she said as she got out.
Adam snaked an arm around her waist and kissed her temple. "Anytime babe," he replied. Adam couldn't help but think how right everything felt. Ava and him...It wasn't like any other of his relationships. It felt different. Adam didn't know how or why yet, but he could feel it. It was there, and it was a good thing.
