Everybody's Got a Story

I Will Guide You Home

*Gerard's P.O.V.*

My phone ringing in the quiet apartment startled me awake. I reached over and grabbed it off the table.
"Hello?" I said groggily. I looked over at my clock and saw it read 7:45.
"Gerard I need you to get to the hospital." Jim's voice spoke back to me.
"Why?" I rubbed my eyes as I laid in my bed.
"You're mom and sister are here." I listened more clearly now and heard him crying.
"Why? What happened? Are they okay?"
"The road was icy and the car hit another car."
"Were you with them?"
"No that's just what the doctor told me."
"Alright I'll be right there. Okay?"
"Hurry." He sounded like a scared child as he hung up the phone.
"Randall." I spoke as I shook his body.
"Huh?"
"I need to go to the hospital. I don't know when I'll be back." My voice was shaking.
"Why?" He sounded confused.
"Sarah and m-my mom are in the h-hospital. Th-they got in a crash."
"I'll come with you." He said and sat up.
"No no. It's okay. You don't have to."
"No. It's okay. I'll drive you."
I stood up and changed into some pants. I found a jacket and a coat and put them on, along with my shoes. Randall got ready as well and we went out the door quietly.
When we arrived we got out and went to the Emergency room waiting area.
We quickly found Jim and went up to him. He stood up and looked at us.
I came up to him and hugged him.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"No. Not really." He answered truthfully.
"They'll be okay." I tried to stop his tears by saying this to him.
He let go of me and we sat down to wait for the doctor.
I grabbed Jim's hand and ignored his surprised expression.
We had been sitting there for around twenty minutes when a doctor walked out and said, "Porter." Which is Jim's last name. I let go of Jim's hand.
We all quickly stood up and walked to the doctor.
"Are you Mr.Porter?" The doctor asked Jim.
"Yes."
"Your daughter has been moved to a room. She can be visited, but your wife on the other hand isn't doing as well. She's lost a lot of blood so she will be in the operating room a little while longer."
"Can we see Sarah?" I asked eagerly.
"Yes I can take you to the room if you'd like."
We followed the man down a few halls and to a room.
We walked in and Sarah was laying on the bed with a cup of water in her left hand.
Her right arm was in a cast and her head was bandaged.
Jim went up to the bed quickly and kissed her head and hugged her.
"Oh Sarah." He began crying again.
He looked at Sarah like she was his own child.
"I'm okay, d-dad." She hugged him tightly.
I came up to her and held her hand.
"Hey Sar bear."
"Hey Jer." She smiled weakly at me. "Where's mom?"
I looked at her and rubbed her hand.
"Your mom is gonna be in surgery for a little while, Hun." Jim told her.
She looked down at the cup in her hands and started crying.
She looked back up at Jim. "Is she gonna be okay?"
"Yeah, sweetheart. She'll be okay." He wiped her tears.
"I'm gonna go get some coffee. Jim. Do you want anything?"
"Yeah. Uh a coffee would be nice."
"Alright. I'll be back."

*Randall's P.O.V.*

"Randall. Wanna come with me?"
"Sure." We walked down the hallway and into the family waiting room.
We walked up to the coffee machine and made two cups of coffee.
"Are you okay?" I cautiously asked.
He shook his head no and sipped on his coffee.
"Let's just get this back to Jim." I said and wrapped my arms around his shoulder. "It's gonna be okay, Gerard. Okay?"
He stopped and looked at me. "Promise?" He had tear stained eyes.
"I promise." I leaned forward and kissed his forehead.
We walked back to the room and I handed Jim his coffee.
"Thanks." He said quietly.
I sat in the chair by the wall next to Gerard.
He laid his head on my shoulder and sighed.
"Should I have told Danny where we were?"
"I think he'll be okay. Do you wanna give him a call."
"I don't want to worry Eric." He picked his head back up and sipped more of his coffee.
"Alright. Why don't you just try and go back to sleep."
"I don't think I can with everything that's happened."
I leaned over and kissed his cheek. "It's all gonna be okay. I'll wake you if something happens."
"Okay." He said quietly.
He laid his head back on my shoulder and grabbed my hand. He held it and rubbed the back of it with his thumb. It was something he usually did when he was trying to sleep.
I reached over and took the styrofoam cup from his hand.
He continued to rub the back of my other hand slowly. I could feel he was slowly drifting off.
His hand stopped moving and loosened slightly.
I smiled and looked at him.
"You really love him. Don't you?" Jim asked me.
I looked up at him and smiled. "Yeah. Yeah I do."
Sarah was sleeping too and Jim and I were the only ones awake.
"You make him happy."
"He makes me happy too."
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For what I did to him." He said quietly and looked back at Sarah.
"You know he forgave you a day after you did it."
He looked back at me in disbelief.
"Something about you didn't mean to do it and you're not that kind of person."
"I'm not."
"I know." I whispered. "You're a good dad, Jim."
A doctor walked in after I said this and said, "Danielle is ready to be moved to a room. Would you like her to have a separate room or would you like her to be in here?"
"Here if that's not going to be a bother." Jim answered.
"Alright. We'll get the extra bed out of here and then we'll move her in here."
"Okay."
The doctor left again and some different people came back in and moved the bed.
They rolled it out and around 5 minutes later they began pushed Danielle into the room.
"Gerard." I said quietly in his ear.
"Hmm?" He said to me.
"Your mom is here." That woke him up. He rubbed his eyes and looked at me.
He watched as they adjusted the machines and IV chords around her.
She was asleep and looked very weak.
He stood up and waited for the doctors and nurses to leave.
After they left he walked over to his mom's side.
He grabbed her hand and leaned down to kiss her head.
He looked over at Jim and spoke. "I told you she'd be okay."
Jim gave Gerard a weak smile and stood up to go to his wife's side.
"You guys should go back home. I don't know when she'll wake up, but it probably won't be for a while." Jim said to us.
"I don't wanna leave her though." Gerard had a worried look on his face.
"I'll call you as soon as she wakes up. Okay?"
"But-"
Jim cut him off. "Gerard." He said calmly and walked up to him. "Go home, buddy."
"Fine. I'll see you later, dad." He said and pulled me out of the room.
He held my hand and we started walking down the hallway.
Gerard stopped in his tracks and looked at me. "Did I just call him dad?"
"Surprised me too. Let's just go home."
"I like that you call it home." He said to me as we started walking back down the hall again.
I just smiled and continued walking. We found the truck and I opened his door for him.
"Thanks." He smiled at me.
"No problem."
I got in and we drove back to the apartment.
We walked in and it was kind of dark. We walked toward the living room and Danny was sitting on the futon. He whipped his head around and looked at Gerard and I.
"Oh my god where have you been?" He ran to Gerard and hugged him.
"Mom and Sarah are in the hospital." Gerard responded quietly.
"Why?"
"They got into a car crash."
"Was Jim with them?"
"No it was just Sarah and Mom."
"Oh. Are they okay?"
"Sarah has a broken arm and a few cuts and scrapes, but mom just looked so horrible." He began to cry again. "She has a broken leg and she lost a lot of blood. She looked so lifeless." He said quietly as he looked at the ground instead of his brother.
"I'm so sorry, Gerard. She'll be okay though."
"I'm just gonna go lay down." He said and moved past his brother into his room.
"He hates me." Danny said to me.
"No. He hates that you left." I said back to him.
"I only left because I knew my dad would hate me if I told him how I really was."
"What do you mean?"
"I was failing my classes and barely graduated. Almost got kicked off the football team. And I'm a gay fuck up. Imagine that. He dies and what does he get out of it? Two gay sons. What else do you need to hear?"
"Just because you're gay doesn't mean you're a fuck up."
"I'm sorry. Just. Can you make sure he's okay? I'll be back later."
"Yeah." I said and watched him get his jacket and leave.
I walked into Gerard's room and saw him laying on the bed.
"Gerard?"
"Yeah?"
"Are you okay?"
"Am I ever?" He said back real quiet.
I laid down by him on the bed and wrapped my arms around him.
"I love you, babe." I whispered in his ear.
"I know, Kirby."
I laughed and looked at him. "Kirby?"
"Yeah. Cause you love being Kirby on the Super Smash Bros game."
I laughed again and he smiled.
"I love you, Kirby."
"I love you too, Gerard."
Gerard drifted to sleep and I moved my arms and got up.
I walked into the kitchen and got a water bottle out of the fridge.
I went into the living room and sat down. I turned on the wii and started watching a movie.
Around 20 minutes later a knock came to the door.
I stood up and went to answer it.
Jim was there. I looked at him for a minute then let him in.
"Is Gerard here?"
"Yeah he's sleeping. I could go wake him up if you want me to."
"No it's fine."
"Do you want anything to drink?"
"No. Um. No I'm good."
"Do you want to go sit in the living room?"
"Uh sure."
He followed me into the room and we sat down on the futon.
"Are you okay, Jim?"
He looked at me before answering. "Yeah. I'm fine."
"They're gonna be okay." I tried to reassure him.
"I know they will. I just don't know if Gerard will be."
"I'll keep an eye on him."
"You know. That's the first time he ever called me Dad."
"He knows you're not gonna ever hurt him again. He trusts you a little better then he used to."
Gerard walked out of the bedroom and sat down on the other side of Jim.
"What are you doing here?" He asked as he curled up beside Jim on the sofa and laid his head on his leg.
"Yeah. Everything is fine. I actually came to check on you."
He stayed where he was, but looked up at Jim with a surprised look on his face.
"I'm okay." Gerard said sincerely. "No need to worry about me."
"You called me dad."
"Yeah I know. It's about time right." Gerard laughed and sat up.
He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and sighed.
"It's too early." He moaned and stood up. "I'll see you guys later."
He walked back into the room and shut the door behind him.
"You're welcome to stay, but I think I'm gonna lay back down. So help yourself to Netflix."
I stood up and stretched. "See ya later, Jim."
"See ya, Randall." He said and I went into the room.
I laid beside Gerard and wrapped my arms around his waist.
He turned around to face me and smiled up at me.
"Hi." He whispered.
"Hi." I said back quietly.
He leaned forward and kissed me.
"Will- Can you hold me?" He gave me a nervous look. He looked sad though.
I turned onto my back and didn't let go of him. He laid his head on my shoulder and I could feel his breath on my neck.
"I love you." His voice broke.
"I love you too, baby."
He started to cry and buried his face in my shoulder.
"Go to sleep, hun. I'll talk to you soon. Okay?"
"Please don't leave." He begged me.
I kissed his forehead and said, "I have no reason to go, love."
He closed his eyes and shortly afterward his breath evened out and his grip around my waist loosened. I smiled and stayed there. I closed my eyes and felt myself drifting off as well.
