On the Run

Liam Payne

Liam sat on the bed counting the cracks in the ceiling as the petite brunette, who’d introduced herself as Ann, slept beside him. She had insisted that she stay in his room, which he couldn’t understand, but it didn’t bother him too much. She was an attractive girl and if she wanted to lay in a bed with him, he wouldn’t object. Still, it was an odd situation. He hadn’t had a girl in his bed for quite some time; Enzo had made relationships nearly impossible for him to form as he was always cleaning up some mess, so the sleeping girl beside him only caused his mind to wander away from revenge as he noticed the curve of her hip.

Snapping his eyes back to the ceiling, he tried to think of anything. Just something to keep his thoughts away from the tiny form beside him, but as she stirred he wondered if that was even possible. He would settle for a kiss, just some form of attention, but he knew that it would be a crazy request if he voiced it. So, he stayed silent as she turned onto her side to face him, her clear blue eyes meeting his brown ones.

“Why aren’t you asleep?” she asked as he sat, his eyes peeking at her from the corners.

“My mind won’t let me,” he replied quietly.

Chewing on her bottom lip, the girl propped herself up on her elbow. “What’s on your mind, then?”

Turning his face to hers, he said, “A lot of things.” His eyes traveled over her figure that was partially hidden beneath the blankets, biting his lip as they returned to her face. Still, he couldn’t help the flash of images behind his eyelids as he blinked. All the things he wanted to do, but never would lay just a layer under his skin begging for the approval that would never come.

“Want to talk about it?”

Licking his lips, he turned his eyes away from her, “Not really.”

“So you plan on not sleeping than?” she asked with a little smirk as she pulled her legs out from beneath the blankets and sat up.

“For as long as this thinking keeps me up, yeah,” he said, his eyes traveling to her smooth bare legs to where they met a tiny pair of black shorts.

“And you don’t want to talk about it?”

“Not particularly,” he replied as he tore his eyes away from the revealed skin and met hers. A small smirk was on her pink lips as she looked at him.

“Well, then,” she began moving closer to him. “Why don’t we not talk about it,” she continued as she swung a leg over his lap to straddle his legs, “And get your mind on something else?”

“I don’t think that’s such a good idea,” he said as his breathing quickened slightly, his pulse already rising.

“Oh, but it is,” she replied putting her hands on his shoulders. “I’d prefer if you were well rested and you won’t be if you spend the whole night thinking about it and not making a move.” Leaning closer she let her fingertips brush lightly against his skin as she trailed them up to his short hair, causing him to fight the moan that was building in his throat as she ghosted her nails across his scalp. Her breath danced across his lips as her nose nearly touched his, “Just let yourself go,” she whispered.

His resolve was gone and in one swift motion his arms wrapped around her, a hand knotting itself in her hair as he crashed his lips against hers. Taking control, he moved so she lay beneath him as his hand explored the curve of her hip. A moan escaped her lips as he rolled his hips against hers, trailing kisses to her neck as he nipped at her skin.

As his fingertips delved under the thin fabric of her t-shirt, the calloused nature of his fingers a stark contrast to the delicate feel of her skin, a knock pounded through the room. Pulling his lips away from her, he slowly turned his gaze to glare at the door. Grunting in frustration, he lifted himself away from the girl and walked over to the door.

“What?” he asked with a little bite as the door opened to reveal Zayn.

“It’s your shift,” the man said simply before backing away and starting for another room.

Sighing, Liam looked back at the brunette that sat on the bed and bit his lip. He would much rather stay with her than go keep watch for cops, but it was in his hands now.

“Gotta go?” she asked her blue eyes watching him as a content smile lay on her lips.

“Yeah,” he replied as he took a step out of the room. “We’ll finish this later.”

As he shut the door, he saw the girl nod and soon he was off to cool down and watch for cops. His eyes scanned the parking lot and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The stars were out in a speckled pattern as the moon fought for dominance as it shone brightly. Liam wondered if there would be a sign of trouble that maybe Enzo wouldn’t let the police take care of this, but instead would send his own, much more capable men. It was bothersome, but if he knew it was coming he could do something. That’s what Enzo had hired him for after all, his quick thinking and plotting ways. Even in a split second deal, he could way a few possibilities and react in the best fashion.

This way of thinking had saved him from a few bullets, but earned him a few nasty wounds at the same time. As he thought about the scars that he’d earned cleaning up Enzo’s messes, he wondered in the beautiful brunette would look at them in disgust. Ann seemed like the girl to ignore them, but he wasn’t even sure if that meant anything. He didn’t trust her, but that didn’t mean he didn’t want her.

As he thought about the girl with stunning blue eyes, he realized how she was connected to Enzo. She had been on one of the jobs that he’d had to clean up, she was in a file that Enzo had given him once and it seemed that as he thought about it, she could be an asset or a trap. Ann had been on a job that involved weasling into a rival gang’s warehouse and steeling a large supply of weaponry. He remembered her in particular because she had been the only one to get out without a trace. If he had to pick a role for the girl, he would say she was a very talented grifter.

Watching the parking lot entrance, he hoped like hell that she hated Enzo as much as he did and that she wasn’t a spy. Still, with the thought on his mind, he couldn’t help but think that the moment in the room could have been part of plan. He just couldn’t figure out why Enzo would have anyone break them out of prison the way she did. It just didn’t seem like something he would do.

Sighing, he decided to trust her with a trace of suspicion. He’d watch her until he knew what she was about, then he’d make his final decision. If that meant killing her, then he would do it, but he wasn’t so sure he’d want to.
