Beetlejuice and Lydia

Chapter Nine

"Now over here we have the notoriously awful demonic presences." Levi said, gesturing over to the left to a bunch of prison cells. The first cell we came across a boy stood in a corner, facing the wall. As we watched his head spun around, his sockets empty. The next cell beside his had a dog with an extra row of teeth and three heads taking up most of the space. I looked over to the right side, where a man with overalls sat on a bucket at the front of his cell.

"What about the right side?" I asked him. Levi turned around to look at us, his face bored as he waved off the right hand side nonchalantly.

"Those cells are just boring old humans. Who would want them?" Levi asked.

"I would want them." I said, squeezing Beetlejuice's arm harder. He yelped.

"Hey uh, Levi. I think she wants a human presence. Like, really bad." Beetlejuice spoke up. Levi cocked an eyebrow at us and turned back around, walking to the farthest cell in the hallway.

"Then she'll love Sarah. As human as she could possibly hope. A little girl, here since the age of eleven." Levi spoke, stopping next to the cell and waiting for Beetlejuice and I to catch up.

"Eleven. Okay, that sounds like an okay age." I said, stopping next to him. A little girl stood facing us, dressed in a red jumpsuit with a button up shirt beneath it. Her hands were folded as she stared at us, blankly.

"What do you think, Lyds? I think she's a great choice. Practically a steal if you ask me." Beetlejuice asked. I kept on staring at the girl, trying to figure her out. She smiled at me and swayed back and forth, cocking her head to the side.

"I don't know. Something about her is giving me the creeps." I said.

"Come on, Lyds. I'd like to make a decision today, if you don't mind." I pursed my lips. Beetlejuice took this as a good sign.

"All right then! Package her up! We're taking her with us!"

"Beetlejuice, are you sure about this?" I asked, holding a jar full of ectoplasm in my hand. We were back on Adam's model of the town, and I was ready to go back to my body.

"Babes, do you think I'd do anything that could put you in danger?" I gave him a pointed look. "Well yeah, I probably would....but you know, I have a good feeling about this. When have my good feelings been wrong?"

"All the time?" I left a questioning note in my voice.

"Whatever. The only thing you have to do is wake up in your body the same time you unscrew the cap off of the jar. She'll go after your body because that's what we've told her to do, and you just let her in." He explained. "That's it, it's that simple."

His words were far from convincing. I continued to hold onto the jar, until Beetlejuice let the cap off of it. I spun upwards and out along with that creature in the jar, back to my body. I woke with a jump, gasping. As soon as I opened my mouth a white light shot into it. My eyes bugged out as something slimy slid down my throat.

I'm going to destroy you, I'm going to destroy you. The thing chanted as it made it's way into my system. I fought against it, suddenly having second thoughts about this entire ordeal. Unfortunately I didn't fight hard enough, and was pushed back out of my body. I went spiraling back to Beetlejuice. He caught me before I could fall on my face into the fake grass. I watched in horror as my body rose, a sickening smile on it's face.

"What did you talk me into doing?" I asked Beetlejuice, an octave below being hysteric. He was already running back towards his grave, a hand on my arm.

"Not now, Babe, we have so much more planning to do!" He said as we entered back into the afterlife.

Sorry the chapter's so short, but I wanted to produce something and ah...well...here's the fruits of my labor.
