Lessons Learned I

Rachel 015

I went to the Bean Scene to do a little bit of writing. I ordered a mocha frauppe and got settled in a seat.

As if like clockwork, Adam walked inside.

God, please, no!

He made a beeline toward me. "Hey," he said.

I sighed and slammed my book shut. "Hi, Adam," I said, annoyed.

He smiled. "How are you?"

"Busy," was my reply.

"...oh. What are you reading?"

"I'm not reading," I said, still annoyed. "I'm writing. Hence the pen." I pointed to it.

He finally backed off. "Sorry, didn't see it."

I sighed. "It's alright," I said in a less harsh tone.

"You write, huh?"

I nodded. "I love writing."

"What kind of stuff do you write?"

"Just about anything. Short stories, poetry, vignettes..."

"Wow. May I read one?"

"...sure." I picked up my notebook and handed it to him.

He opened up my notebook and apparently read one of my short stories as it took him about five minutes to finish. He looked at me and raised his eyebrows. "You're really talented."

I felt myself blush a little. I smiled weakly. "Not really. I write because I find it relaxing and fun."

"I'm a crappy writer. But you could go somewhere with this stuff," he commented, handing my book back to me.

I smiled a little more. "Thank you." I paused for a moment. "Take a seat if you'd like."

He sat down across from me. "So, uh, I'm assuming you like to read as well..."

"Yep. I love reading. I'm a geek, I'll admit it." I smiled a little.

He smiled. "I like that in a woman," he said in a very charming fashion.

Hm...be brave for once, Rach. Take a chance!

I smiled a little. "Are you hitting on me?" I asked in a light fashion.

"Maybe," he said in a flirty tone.

I gave him a full smile, then giggled lightly.

"So, um...you and Alex. You two dating?" he asked.

I shook my head. "No. He's my best guy friend, but we're not dating or anything. I'm single."

"So, would that mean you'd be interested in going out, say, Friday night?"

"'Going out'?" I quoted. "How, exactly?"

Well, I thought, he could be proposing marriage or something and if I hadn't asked and just said yes, I'd be a married woman...okay, maybe not...

"To dinner. As a date."

"A date date?"

"Yeah..."

Take a chance. Besides, you gotta admit, he is kind of cute...

I smiled a little. "That sounds okay."

He smiled brightly. "Great! Um, I'll pick you up at seven."

I grinned at him. "That works."

He smiled. "Okay. See you then." He got up.

"Bye, Adam," I said, grinning.

"See ya, Rachel." He left.

I smiled a little, then got back to my writing.
