Falling for You Was Out of My Control

Professional Pancake Maker

Jessie’s POV
For the first time I didn’t wake up to the sound of snoring. He was so peaceful and he must have been in a really deep sleep because he didn’t wake up as I played with the cross hanging from the end of his necklace like I did every morning.

I was beginning to get that itchy feeling you get when you stay still for too long but I didn’t want to leave the warmth of the bed and his arms.
“Evgeni,” I whispered trying to wake him quietly.

He was not one for surprise wake up calls which I learnt pretty quickly when Jeffrey had jumped up on the bed one morning uninvited and climbed all over us leaving Evgeni in a sour mood all morning.

“Evgeni,” I kissed his lips but nothing happened.
“Hey,” I poked his stomach, “wake up.”
He really was in a deep sleep and I was going to have to up the ante if I was ever going to get out of his grasp.

“Evgeni,” I ran my hand down his sides and over his back where I lightly pinched his ass.
“Oh look your awake,” I smiled as his eyes shot open.
“No,” he grumbled shutting his eyes again only to wrap his arms tighter around me.
“Yes you are,” I tried to move but with his strong legs tangled in mine there was no escape.

“Evgeni,” I whined.
“What?” his voice was full of sleep.
“Wake up,” I shook his shoulder.
“I am awake,” he mumbled.
“Well open your eyes,” I traced the side of his face and kissed his lips again.
“Fine,” he sighed opening his eyes.

We laid there staring at each other as I played with his hair and his fingers ran up and down my back almost lulling me back to sleep.
“Wake up,” he teased as my eyes began to slip shut.
“Shut up,” I opened my eyes to see him smiling back at me.
“Do you want breakfast? I make pancakes,” he knew me all too well.
“Mmm yes please.”
“I have shower first so stay in bed,” he kissed my forehead and heaved himself out of bed.

Evgeni’s POV
I reluctantly got out of bed and showered before heading into the kitchen to make breakfast.

“Hey Jeffrey,” plodded over wagging his tail looking happy to see me before he sat with me as I began making breakfast.
“Want food huh?” he stared up at the box of dog treats that sat on the bench.
*Woof*
“Ok here,” I handed a biscuit over and he ran back over to the lounge room where Sebastian was looking upset.
“You want one?” his ears pricked up and wagged his tail as I walked over to give him a biscuit too.
“Good boy,” I petted his head.

I went back to making the pancakes and found some strawberries and whipped cream to go with it.
“Smells good,” I felt her small arms wrap around my mid-section as she placed a kiss to my bare back.
“Professional pancake maker,” I turned around and wrapped my arms around her.
“You do make perfect pancakes, golden brown and oh so yummy,” she peered over my arm at the stack building on the plate.
“I have secret is why,” I shrugged.
“And what secret is that?” she looked up with pleading eyes, “tell me.”
“Flip them,” I pulled away and grabbed the pan handle before tossing the pancake in the air.
“Your like my very own Jamie Oliver, this is awesome,” she looked rather impressed, “show me.”
“Alright,” I handed over the pan and stood behind her wrapped my arms around her and encased her hands with mine, “like shot puck, flick wrist.”

“Oh my god I have never been able to do this,” she pulled away and kept flipping it with a huge smile on her face.
“You should stop,” I warned as Jeffrey ran over and stared at pancake flipping through the air. I knew exactly what was going to happen if she kept flipping it because it happened to everyone the first time they did it.
“Why?” she did it again.
“Because you will…” and then exactly what I predicted happened. The pancake hit the floor and Jeffrey stood staring at it already calling dibs on it with his eyes, “drop it.”
“Ooops,” she put on her puppy dog eyes.
“Get it Jeffrey,” I pointed to the food because now it was no good, “what about Sebastian?” I curled an eyebrow at her.
“Well I can drop another one if you like,” she smiled, “or I could just take one of these,” she grabbed one from the plate and took it over to him, “now the dogs have both had breakfast.”

I loved how much she loved her dog. We took the dogs everywhere with us. If I could take Jessie and the dogs to away games with me I would. Even with Sebastian’s bad leg he never missed out on the fun, he was always close by, that was why we spent most of the time sitting on the lounge room floor with him rather than up on the sofa where he was out of sight and why Jeffrey wasn’t allowed onto the bed because then he would get comfortable and Sebastian would be all alone. The dogs were a big part of us after all if it wasn’t for them we would never have met and I was going to have to secretly reward those two for that.

“What do you want to do today?” she looked up at me from where she was snuggled into my side wrapped in a blanket.
“If you share this,” I tugged on the blanket, “we stay here.”
“Ok,” I knew how much she didn’t want to go out in the cold and I really didn’t want to either. I would much prefer to be with her in the warmth of her house the Christmas holiday was over and we wouldn’t get mornings like this.
