Falling for You Was Out of My Control

The Most Unfit Person Ever

My first day of practice was torture, the sprints, suicides, and endless layups. I thought I was going to die.
"Hey Jessie you ok?" I was just thankful Megan had made the team and was there to help.
"I am pretty sure I am going to pass out," I gasped wanting to just throw up.
"If you’re going to be sick please do it in the bin," Laura put her hand on my back as we headed into the locker room, "but I want to see you about your knee once you have finished dying on us."

I spent the next half an hour with my head in a bucket dying from over doing it. I pushed more than I should have but being a rookie I had to prove myself somehow.

"Good job Bailey," coach Bill walked into the medical room.
"Ugh thanks coach," I didn't know how throwing up everywhere was good but his approval was making me feel better about it.
"You will get used to it," he slapped my back before moving off to the other girls who for the first practice of the season looked fantastic.

"How do they do it?" I pointed to the girls out in the locker room.
"Years of practice, you've been out of the game for a while. The coach is testing you, it's what he likes to do to make sure he picked the right people."
"And?"
"He picked the right person," she smiled before I was at it again.

"God this sucks," I groaned as I laid down.
"Toughen up," Megan teased from other table where she seemed to have already recovered.
"Shut up."

"Alright Jessie put your leg out," and now to make matters worse Laura was going to be poking and prodding and stretching my leg while I just wanted to curl up and sleep.

"How does that feel?" If she kept up that stretch my leg was sure to break off.
"Ouch what the hell are you doing?" I grumbled pulling away.
"I am going to pretend you didn't say ouch," she did it again, "how does it feel?"
"Fine," I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Good."
"Now what about your ankle?"
"It's fine," I gave up and let her check it all out, that was of course until my phone started going off.

"Hey Jessie somebody is calling you," Megan's voice rang from the locker room.
"Yeah yeah whatever, wait!" I jumped down realizing it would probably be Evgeni. We hadn't really talked in a couple of days and if it was him then I would kick myself for missing it.

"Give it!" Suddenly all sickness had gone and I was on a mission.
"Oh look it's your boyfriend," she tried to tease.
"Your just jealous now give me the phone," I lunged onto her and screamed as she hit answer.

"Megan!"
"Jessie?" He sounded so confused but god I had missed his voice.
"Hang on one second babe," I continued to beat on her before finally snatching it away.

"Ok sorry about that," I stayed sitting on her just to prove my point.
"Babe? Really?"
"Oh it kind of just came out," I admitted feeling dumb because I hadn't given him a pet name yet I think the only other word I had used was honey but I say that to a lot of people so I discarded it as a name for him.
"Is ok, call me anything."
"Alright but I can't just say these things on command it will happen as complete accident and then just become general knowledge, ok?"
"Ok."

"So how has your day been?" I climbed off of Megan and punched her in the arm as a goodbye.
"Is ok," he sighed.
"What's wrong?"
"Just worry about playoffs."
"You will be fine if you just focus."
"I not know," but he sounded so down and out.
"And why wouldn't you?"
"Miss you."
"I miss you too but you have to concentrate on hockey then maybe you won't miss me so much," I suggested.
"But..."
"Evgeni just do it, please. Your making me feel bad."

We all knew Evgeni hadn't being playing well and it was to the point where I would turn off the television I just couldn't deal with it. He was getting mad and upset and everyone could see it. Then every time he was called to the bench there was a shot of him getting ripped into by Dan, poor guy. I just wished I could be there for him.

"How you?" He changed the subject but I let him have it because I didn’t want to argue with him over something so little.
"Yeah I am ok we just had our first practice and I think I might die."
"Really?" he chuckled, "you weak."
"I would like to see you do what we did."
"I do, on ice," now there was some happiness in his voice and I liked it.
"Doubt it, when you come here you can do a practice with us, I am sure the girls will love it and you... you will die."
"Oh I am scared."
"You know what? I don't think I want to talk to you anymore."
"Jessie no hang up.”

I was silent for a few minutes as I stared out on the court before he huffed in frustration, “Jessie I know you there… Jessie.”
“Yes?”
“What you doing?” he grumbled.
“I am sorry got sidetracked… um look I have some errands I have to run do you want to go on Skype tonight?”
“Yes.”
“We could have dinner.”
“Skype date?” I could just imagine his smiling face.
“Yes a Skype date, 7 sound good?”
“Yes 7.”
“Ok cya later.”

I spent all afternoon curled up in bed feeling terrible and completely worn out hoping I would feel better before talking to Evgeni because he always had a way of making me feel better.
