Save Me?

Chapter Four

That wasn’t right. He shouldn’t have just left. You don’t just go and invade someone’s mind and act as if it’s nothing; completely nothing. And that was pissing me off. First time I have ever had a dream walker or speaker speak through my thoughts, and this is what I got? Yes, this is immature for me to think, but this something strange to me; only one more thing to had to my strange life. This was a huge deal for me; something I thought would never happen to me. And because I was getting worked I started to recite a cast. My best ability is nature. Woods, grass, stuff along those lines, and then there is weather; and that is what I excelled at. When I got pissed or was starting to get worked up about anything, rain was my go to thing. It was the first thing I learned to control at 15, giving me an advantage.
I began to recite a simple cast; not to freak anyone out at first. Pluat, veni ad me. All casts and spells are in Latin; our original language. This meant Rain, come to me something very simple; usually the first weather cast you would learn as a caster. Soon enough, after about repeating it for only a short 4 times, the rain started to ping against the window, and trickle down it. As minutes passed, I was getting tired of this small rain, I needed to let it all out, but slowly; and I know just the perfect cast.
-Don’t do it.- I ignored the voice, even knowing what it was coming from. -Alex, Don’t do it. Please Lex.- No one besides my aunt and Rian ever called me Lex. Please.
‘Why should I? I have no fucking idea of who you are Chance. I don’t even know if you are in this room!’ I glanced back over at Jack, he was sitting there, now folding the paper neatly and placed it on the corner of his desk.
-Trust me.-
Again I ignored the words. I was not going to trust some voice, not here, not now. Ego postulo vobis pluvias. Ego postulo vobis hic procul vestri plenissimam. This one was something I have come to teach myself. I need you rain. I need you here at your fullest. I had been working on this one for 6 months, perfecting it. Making sure that it would cause much more than a storm.
-Lex, take it back.-
‘Who the hell do you think you are calling me that!? Just get the fuck out of my head!’ I shot up for my seat immediately following my words, regretting my actions, earning me glares and stares from other students, except Jack. Jack just sat there perfectly fine, not affected in any way by my recent actions. And that right there, I began to wonder about him. Something like that from another student should definitely startle you in some particular way.
“Mr. Gaskarth, please sit down!” Mr. Merrick yelled, still not turning around from the board.
“You ok?” Jack asked, as I sank back down in my chair. There was no explaining this. No escape from I have done, my actions planted in everyone minds.
“Yeah. Powers, still kicking in I guess”. I laughed off, shying away from him. It was lie I told often. It was the line I over used for anything that happened supernatural with me. Looking back him, I caught a glimpse at a smile that could light up a whole room, stop anything happening, and that’s exactly what it did. The rain I began to cause stopped the minute my eyes fell upon his smile. But soon that smile disappeared and worry started to take over his face.
“Alex, keep your head down” He whispered calmly, moving closer to me.
“Why?” I followed his order. The tone in his voice worried me. What was so wrong that I had to- That’s when it hit me. Keep your head down. Eye contact. My eyes!
“Your eyes. They..well….” he stuttered, and I understood, I mean who wouldn’t.
“Jack, spit it out!”
“They’re fallen. I swear they were just caster eyes.” Despite his stutter and that small lisp, he remained calm. To the point it scared me that he was so calm. No one should be this calm if they saw something like that.
“Don’t worry I got this” I whispered, tilting my head to the side, meeting is liquid caramel eyes. “Trust me?”
“I trust you.” He whispered, turning his head back to face the front, but his attention still on me.
“Omnia mihi placent triae, ad me.” With everything in me please, caster, return to me, is what it meant. I kept repeating it over and over, taking glances at Jack getting an approval, and getting a no each time.
-Why didn’t you listen to me?-
‘What part of get the fuck out of my head-‘
-Will you just shut up! Please just listen Angel.-
‘I will, only if you call me Alex’
-I can’t do that-
‘Whatever. Fine, talk’
“Any better?” I whispered, taking slight glances at Jack, hoping for the best. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Every time I had practiced that spell it worked immediately, this wasn’t right, there was something wrong here, something preventing this.
Jack didn’t speak, only nodding his head in the direction of one simple word; one I didn’t care to see nor hear anymore. No.
Relax and let me handle this. Make eye contact with Jack, I want you to feel what made you stop the rain. That right there is the key.
The lock between our eyes didn’t break. It wasn’t like a starring contest; no, it was filled with care. I noticed the smile starting to form on his lips, and one starting to overcome mine as well. The boy was beautiful. I could feel what butterflies in my stomach, and warmth. It felt like home, like he was my home; I belonged with Jack. This continued before the voice returned.
-Ask him. -
“Jack?” I whispered, still not letting our eyes break. His expression was holding amounts of care and relief, that smile still planted right on his face.
“Perfect gold and astonishing green, the most beautiful caster eyes I have seen in my life time.” He whispered. He ducked his head, shying away still smiling. God, that smile could light up a whole room. I couldn’t stop staring at him; not able to let my eyes fall from that beautiful smile of his. I could see his eyes glancing back up at me every few seconds “ what are you staring at?”
“You” I whispered. I immediately wanted to take it back. Yes, I did mean what I said, because indeed I was staring at him, but it was something that didn’t need to be said.
“Well aren’t you flattering” he laughed softly, his smile growing a slight bit bigger.
“Last time I say this,” Mr. Merrick began, finally turning around to face the crowded classroom, “Barakat and Gaskarth, get acquainted outside of my classroom, is that clear?”
“Yes Mr. Merrick” we both said in unison, both chuckling at the end.
Throughout the rest of the last 45 minutes of class we both stayed quiet, shooting short glances and thrown in some smiles at each other. I couldn’t help but throughout that time, Jack was constantly writing on that piece of paper, to the point that he was writing on the back of it, and from what I could see, it still had nothing to do with the class lesson.
‘Chance?’ I had questions for him, some things I knew wouldn’t get answered, but I could always hope for the best.
-Angel, what can I do for you?-
‘I want to talk, like really talk’
-Do you promise to listen to me next time?-
‘Only when you say stop?’ I couldn’t help but chuckle out loud, and that earned me a glance accompanied by a smile from Jack.
-Ha, funny. But in serious terms, what’s up?-
‘I want to talk to you about some things. And before you say …think… you know what I mean,’ I took a short glance at Jack, and there he was, smiling slightly, holding back a slight chuckle, almost like he heard something funny, like someone messed something up. No, it couldn’t be him, not him. I immediately tried to push the thought straight out of my head, ‘ I know you probably can’t answer some of these, but promise me that you’ll answer what you can and truthfully?’
-I promise Lex-. I couldn’t help but smile at the sound of my name. The voice was starting to sound more and more familiar, and I could hear that he was letting his real voice take over and letting go of this disguise voice go, almost sounding similar to Jack’s voice. No. I wasn’t going there again, but it was getting harder, the voices were so similar that it was starting to make me question this all.
- I hope you don’t mind me calling you that?-
Looking over at Jack, I saw he had another piece of paper and quickly scribbling something on it. Soon after, he folded it neatly and laid it down on my desk. Opening it, it revealed a short, corky sentence, ~What you all smilely about over there?~ I didn’t even bother writing back and just turned to him and did something differently, something I never did, something against the rules in this school. I lifted my index finger slowly and breathed in deeply, preparing for what I was about to do. The gold like light snaked shortly out of the tip of my finger and Jack immediately light up with a smile, he knew what I was about to do. I turned my body slightly, so I was facing Jack. I didn’t know what came over me to do this, but I loved using my powers, it was something I was good at. Jack turned his body as well; we were now facing each other, smiles consuming our faces.
-Go ahead Lex, this is who you are.-
I breathed in deeply once more before I started. Letting my powers take control, my finger began to write the word SOMETHING in the air, but nothing showed; Jack looking just amazed at what I was doing. Once finished with the word, my hand fell to my knee, and I blew the invisible word in the direction of the surface of Jack’s desk, making sure it flew right passed him, letting him smell the sweet aroma of Unclaimed Caster magic. In seconds the word appeared on his desk, glowing an exact replica green like my right eye. Not thinking that his face could light up anymore was an understatement. Looking down at his desk his smile great larger, letting teeth show slightly more, small chuckles escape from the hand that occasionally overlapped his perfectly shaped mouth. He honestly looked like a child that just entered the world’s biggest candy store and was told he could have whatever he wanted. Jack lifted his right hand and brought it over the words, close enough to where they were almost touching the glow on his desk. his index began to trace over the words, so close that his index finger made brief contact with the E and the word lifted up from his desk and formed into a short string of gold glowing magic. Soon enough it was twisting and wrapping around his finger lightly. Chuckles still escaping his lips. After letting him play with the magic for another five minutes, it was time to let it go. I brought up my hand, fingers spread, and palm facing Jack as he turned, holding the gold light in his hand; he knew it was time. I took in one deep breath and released immediately and spoke softly Renuntio, which meant retract. Once the word left my lips, almost like a jump, the orb lifted from Jacks palm and came back into mine.
-Beautiful Alex. You’re betting at controlling it than I thought you were.-
I knew what the voice meant, because I was half caster and half fallen, I posed more dark and light in me than other SN’s, and I had a harder time controlling the dark, but not here, not what I just did in front of Jack, I felt nothing for dark, and that took me by great surprise. “Alex, that was amazing” Jack whispered, turning his body back to facing the front and leaving his head turned towards me. “You’re different than other Casters aren’t you?”
“You have no idea” I whispered, hoping he wouldn’t hear. But that would be an understatement. Immortals had amazing hearing advantages over the other SN’s, to the point it was just unbelievable that they could hear just a tiny, almost unspoken whisper.
Jack didn’t say anything back but he just sat there with a smile planted on his face, one I could tell was filled with sincerity and understanding. “Well, don’t let anyone tell you different” He whispered before taking the folded note on the his desk in hand and handing it to me. “Take it.”
I took it exchanging a confused look on his face. This was the note he had been working on viciously throughout the class.
-Lex, take the note. Trust me.-
I began to open it once I was sitting normally in my desk, but Jack immediately stopped me. “Not here.”
“Why?” I whispered. There couldn’t be anything dangerous about this note, right? I mean this was an immortal we are talking about, and probably a newbie if that. I mean yes, being an immortal you do gain some powers, but only a few know how to use it. That power can vary per immortal, but the most common; Manifestation. And that’s what I feared the most about this note. Jack could not be a newbie, but in fact be a 1,000 year old immortal and just here to learn the new.
“Trust me.” And I did. For a guy I just met about an hour and a half ago, I knew there was something about him, this aroma that hovered around him, something that just stated that I could trust him, even though I don’t know exactly who he is. I mean yes, I know who he is. His name is Jack Barakat, and he’s a full immortal, you can tell by the fragrance rolling off his beautiful, perfectly tan skin. But there was more than that. I knew him, it was as if I met him before, but I just can’t remember. And the way he said trust me, it was soothing just like the…I shook my head to that thought. No, he wasn’t the voice, he just couldn’t be.
-Never forget the possible Gaskgarth. -
