There was something unspoken between Reed and me at the beginning, something that was communicated by grazes of fingertips, butterfly kisses, and the purr of his car’s engine.

I fell in love with him, and I fell in love with him hard. Every moment I spent with him felt like falling through time and space, suspended in that moment. On occasion, it occurred to me that perhaps Alice felt like that when she fell into Wonderland. Scared and confused, but also excited and amazed. I lived for those moments with him; running through cornfields and catching glimpses of his face and hands through the towering stalks, walking around the pond until my feet blistered and ached, holding each other and not saying anything, yet saying everything at once.
