Just for a Moment

Chapter 24

Three weeks. It had been three whole weeks since Alex had left Jack and everything just seemed to be broken and out of place for the two boys. For Alex, things had been painful both emotionally and physically, everyday he had to endure school and the broken looks Jack gave him along with what seemed to be the never ending blows to his stomach and slams into lockers. He was covered in bruises and scrapes but it didn't bother him, not after the way he had treated Jack, then every night he would have to go home and think about everything that had happened. He had to think about how he had hurt Jack and how he was only hurting himself at the same time. He had to think about how he would have spend every evening by himself and how Jack would undoubtedly find someone much better than himself to love and care for, and for Alex he couldn't think of anything more painful than that. To Alex the hits and the scrapes and the looks were payment for leaving Jack, he had to pay in some way for leaving the other boy and somebody had decided that he should pay with pain.

So the three week mark brought them to the end of the school year with a more than painful graduation for the two boys. There were awkward cheers from both parties as the familiar names were called out, for Jack he couldn't be more proud of Alex, even after what he had put him through there was a place in his heart for the older boy which just wouldn't disappear. He still loved his Alex more than life and three weeks of no contact has done nothing but make that love even stronger, so that's Jack was now standing outside Alex's house and ready to knock on the door. Enough was enough now. They had finished with school now so there was no one to torment them and split them apart. Why should they be miserable now when there was no need what so ever. Jack gathered his thoughts together for a few more seconds before taking a breath and gently knocking on the door in front of him and holding his breath as he waited for someone to answer. A few seconds passed before he finally heard the door opening and someone stepping outside.

Jack looked to the person in front of him and he had to admit that his breath caught in his throat slightly. It was Alex. He wasn't expecting Alex to answer the door at all. He looked over the boy in front of him for a few seconds before he awkwardly cleared his throat to start talking again. "H-hey, Alex." He said gently and looked down to his feet, not really able to look at him. Again a few moments passed before he heard Alex's voice. That sweet voice which hadn't been directed towards him in nearly a month.

"J-Jack?" Alex was clearly surprised as to why he was there, so to make things hopefully a little better he lifted his head and smiled to Alex.

"Hey, Alex" He mumbled and shifted from foot to foot a little awkwardly. He sighed a little bit before speaking again "C-could we maybe go inside? He bit his lip softly and looked to Alex through his eyelashes. Alex nodded slowly, his eyes blown wide in shock.

"Oh, um yeah. Of course" The older boy stepped aside to let Jack in. Jack stepped into the house and as much as he hated to admit it, he was visibly a lot more comfortable and at home with the familiar walls around him. "Jack" He heard after the click of the door closing, he spun around on his heel and looked to Alex.

"Yeah?" He smiled a little bit and bit his lip softly, not being able to ignore the way the light caught Alex's hair and made it look like strands of gold.

"I don't want to seem rude or anything." He took notice of the way Alex was shifting from foot to foot, much like he was doing himself not a few minutes ago. "But why are you here?" He looked from Alex to the floor as his head tried to process the question and recall the answer he had spent nearly four days planning.

"Well.." He started and sat on one of the stools at the breakfast bar in the kitchen. "You see, we've finished school." He bit his lip and glanced to Alex "S-so there is no one to do anything or say anything to anyone." He watched over Alex's face to make sure that he was following what he was saying. "And I really fucking miss you" He breathed out, blushing a little bit as he spoke. He looked to Alex and couldn't help but to smile when he saw that he was blushing also. "S-so I was wondering if we could maybe try again?" He gave him a hopeful look. "Please" He whispered, just to show how desperate he was. He looked down again as he awaited for Alex's reply.

"Jack" Alex sighed, Jack watched as he shook his head. "Are you sure you really want to go into that again?" He spoke softly and took a small step closer to Jack. "I-I mean, I hurt you once before a-and I don't want you to do it again." He shook his head and bit his lip again. "A-and what if somebody tries to hurt you again? I don't want you to get hurt, that would be horrible." Tears started to form in the older boys eyes and Jack couldn't help but to wrap his arms around him and hold him close. "I-I don't want another b-bad experience." Jack held him close and listened as Alex took shaky breaths.

"Lex" Jack sighed and buried his nose into Alex's hair and closed his eyes as he took in the familiar scent. "You hurt me because you were trying to protect me, and there are always going to be people who think that we are disgusting and they are going to want to hurt us." He wrapped his arms around Alex a little tighter. "But I don't care as long as I have you. I really don't care about anything as long as you're by my side, because you're my rock and you mean the world to me." He whispered into his hair and rocked him from side to side as he rubbed his back soothingly. "please just give us another chance" He begged into his hair "Please"

He once again heard Alex sigh and after a few minutes before looking up to Jack with a small sigh. "Okay" He whispered. "But you need to tell me if anything gets too much for you because I really can't cope if you're sad." He shook his head and gently kissed Jacks cheek, causing the younger boy to blush.

"I love you, Alex. I really really do" He whispered and kissed his shoulder. "I love you so much"

"I love you too Jack" He whispered and quickly pressed their lips together. And in that moment, everything was okay and they were in their perfect world.
