The Other Side Of The Fence

“Teddi, go answer the door!” Landon laughed as he pushed me towards it. Matt was early, extremely early. I didn’t even know what to think of that, did it mean he was eager for the date to begin? Or eager for the date to be over with? I took a deep breathe, and walked over to the door, opening it slowly, just to see that beautiful face on the other side, the deep dimples showing in his cheeks.

“Told you, you’d look beautiful in anything.” I blushed deeply at his words, smiling back at him, not knowing what to say I was a little speechless.

“Teddi Bear, say something!” Landon said from the other side of the room. Matt’s look changed a bit, from smiling down at me to curiously looking at me.

“Uhm, didn’t know I was disturbing you, I can come back at 7.”

“NO!” Matt’s eyes widened as I yelled at him, I hadn’t meant to yell, but I didn’t want him to leave me like that. I blushed quickly looking down at my feet. “That’s my friend Landon, he was just helping me get ready… I’m ready to go out with you, Landon was just about to leave. I don’t want you to go.”

“Indeed I was! It’s nice to meet you Mr. Sexy, you’re all that she’s been talking about since I met her yesterday! Take care of my girl! Teddi Bear, don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!” And with a wink Landon was out the door, I caught him sneaking a peak of Matt’s butt before walking away, and I giggled slightly, looking up at Matt, who just seemed confused by the whole situation.

“Oh… Kay.” I laughed at Matt’s reaction, he shook his head a little, looking down the hall to where Landon had disappeared, and back at me. “Ready to go?”

“I need like another five minutes, do you want to come in maybe?” I really didn’t need anymore time, I needed a moment to be by myself and calm down. This was nerve racking, I hadn’t expected Matt to be here early. He nodded, and I led him into the house, he sat down on the couch as I ran into my bedroom, sitting down on the bed quickly. I took a few deep breathes, looking around. I could do this, I had stayed by myself for two days now, I had gone grocery shopping, to the mall, had gotten my hair cut, made a friend, and now I can go out with Matt. I could do this, I just had to be a big girl, and go out!



I was sitting in Matt’s car. I was sitting in Matt’s car. I just needed to get over that fact and calm down, cause I felt like I was about to have a panic attack. I was smiling at him as he spoke, he almost seemed like he was babbling, but deep down inside, I could barely control it.

“Matt, pull over, please?” He gave me a weird look, but did as I asked. I quickly unbuckled my seat belt, and jumped out of the SUV, walking around on the side of the road, taking deep breathes. Matt was next to me in a moment, he grabbed my shoulders, and ducked his head to look in my eyes.

“Teddi, what’s wrong?” I had obviously scared him, but I didn’t know how to explain it to him. I was afraid, afraid of being in a car, afraid of going on out on a date, afraid of being alone with him. Mostly I was afraid of him finding out about my past, and wanting to leave me.

“I’m just having a tiny panic attack.” His eyes got wide, and he brushed my hair out of my face, and looked me straight in the eyes. I felt like he was going to look straight through me, and it scared me a little. Like he’d know all my fears, and laugh at them.

“Take a deep breath with me, okay, just really quick? Breathe with me sweet heart.” I nodded, and watched as he opened his mouth and inhaled deeply. I did the same meeting his eyes again, exhaling with him. He searched my face to see if I was doing any better, before repeating the process. I was starting to calm down a little bit, and he didn’t seem to think it was weird that I had suddenly had a panic attack out of nowhere.

“Better?” I nodded, trying to smile up at him, he took his hands off my shoulders, and stood back up to his full height, before pulling me up against his chest. I inhaled his scent quickly, and trying to memorize it. It was a beautiful scent, I loved this scent. “Come on baby, let’s go.” I nodded against Matt’s chest, before getting back in the truck. He shut the door behind me, before running back over to his own side.

“I’m sorry.” I whispered, Matt just shook his head.

“Don’t apologize baby, it’s okay.” I nodded, ducking my head. I felt Matt’s hand snake into my lap, and grab ahold of mine, as he pulled back out on the road, heading to our destination. I threaded my fingers through his, and squeezed, just looking down at his hand. His hand was in mine, this was just another strange thing. I didn’t want to let go of it either, as far as I was concerned his hand could stay in mine all night.

“I’m changing our plans, okay? I think maybe what I originally had planned would make you have another anxiety attack, and I don’t want that.” I nodded, starting to feel sad again. I made him change our plans because I acted foolishly. “So, favorite fast food place?”

“I haven’t had fast food since I was ten.” I blurted out without even thinking. Matt’s eyes got wide as he looked over at me.

“Are you some sort of health nut? Because I’m just going to let you know now, I like pizza.” I laughed loudly at his statement, and shook my head.

“My mom was kind of. She believed in all organic.” Matt’s eyes just got wide again as he shook his head.

“Oh, sweetheart, we’re going to shock that stomach of yours.” I laughed again, nodding, and squeezing his hand. He pulled up to a McDonald’s, and quickly ordered a lot. I wondered how many people would be meeting us where he wanted to go, because it seemed like we’d be able to feed about five people with all the food he just ordered. But, maybe he ate a lot.

“To the beach!” I grinned, I hadn’t been to the beach since I was little, my dad took me about three months before he passed, I was never able to go with Mother, she wouldn’t allow it. She’d always talk about how the bad men could be there, how they’d take me, how they’d kill us. Matt backed the large SUV up into a parking spot, before getting out, running around the back of the truck, opening the hatch, and running to my door and opening it. He offered me his hand yet again, to help me get out. I took it, jumping down from the seat, and following him to the hatch. He grabbed me by the hips and boosted me up to sit in the hatch.

“Don’t freak out, but I have to do it.” I nodded, looking at him with wide eyes as he slowly leaned into my face. I felt his lips brush against mine, which was a shock to my system. His lips pressed a little harder against mine, I could feel his lip ring pressing against my mouth. I snaked my hands up to his shoulders, gripping into them, and pressed my lips back against his, not quite sure how to kiss him, hoping I was doing okay. I heard Matt inhale quickly making me pull away.

“I’m sorry…” I ducked my head, and removed my hands from his shoulders, quickly putting them back in my lap.

“Why are you sorry?! That was perfect, that was amazing, please don’t apologize Teddi.” I looked up at him, not quite sure if he was telling me the truth, but his eyes seemed panicked, like he thought he had upset me, and just wanted to reassure me. His mouth had changed to a bit deeper red, and I wondered if my lips had changed color too. I bit my lip softly, and watched Matt’s eyes zero in on my mouth again, watching as my teeth pulled on my bottom lip. He seemed a little mesmerized by it, and for some reason my tongue snaked out and licked over where I had just bitten. He ducked his head and took a deep, loud, breathe before shaking his head and looking right back up at me.

“I don’t know what it is about you, but you drive me crazy.” That simple statement turned my world upside down. That’s what men said to women in romance movies, Matt wanted me, this wasn’t just going to be a friendship, this was going to be a relationship, this was going to be something I had dreamed about for years. He shook his head again before running around to the front of the SUV, and grabbing the McDonald’s bags, bringing them back to me, before handing out the food, and jumping up next to me, looking over at me with a large grin on his face.

“What?” I wasn’t sure what he was staring at so intently, but he seemed to be enjoying it.

“I want to see the first bite of fast food!” I giggled, before scooting further back into his hatch, and turning to face him, crossing my legs, as I took a fry out of one of the bags, and slowly taking a bite off of the end of it. I almost moaned it tasted so good, it was salty, and perfect, and probably the best thing I had eaten in years. I quickly ate the rest of it, with a content smile on my face.

“That good, huh?” I giggled and grabbed another fry, before scarfing it down, Matt chuckled before taking a bite of his burger. This wasn’t so bad, I had already held hands with Matt, and he kissed me. I wasn’t sure if it was the best kiss he had ever had, but it was a great kiss as far as I was concerned. I wasn’t going to pretend that Matt had never been with another girl, I’m sure he hadn’t been locked in a basement for years. I had to trust him when he said it was perfect, and amazing.

“So, would you be interested in walking down the beach with me?” I nodded, smiling as finished up my fries, Matt was picking up the trash, and getting ready to throw it away. He crooked his finger at me, motioning for me to come closer to him, I smiled and leaned towards him not knowing what to expect. He leaned forward and pecked me on the lips again, before smiling and moving his head away.

“Don’t apologize for that either!” He commanded with a grin on his face, before walking away to a trash can, I could feel my cheeks burning as I watched him walk away, and I snaked my tongue out and licked across my bottom lip. My second kiss from him, and he seemed to enjoy every one.



“You had a good time, right?” I laughed, nodding as we sat in the sand. The sun had set hours ago, we had talked, and talked. He had thrown me in the ocean, and now we were sitting on a blanket he had pulled out of his car, with our feet stretched out towards the ocean.

“I had an amazing time, thank you Matt.” He grinned, nodding and looking out at the ocean. I could feel him shifting closer to me, and before I knew it, his arm was around my shoulders, pulling me closer to him. I grinned and rested my head on his shoulder. I didn’t want this to end, I didn’t want to go back to my apartment without him, I wish I could just stay right here curled up with him for at least tonight. But a week would work too. I had told him a lot about my past tonight, about losing my father, about how it changed my mother, and she became over protective. I had yet to tell him about being locked up in a basement for the past 12 years, I wasn’t sure how to bring it up to him. I wanted him to see me again, I didn’t want to freak him out. He had told me a few things about him too, he told me about his parents, his sister, his friends, and I couldn’t wait to meet all of them.

“We should probably go home Teddi Bear.” I shook my head, not wanting to leave quite yet. “No? No going home yet?” I looked at him and shook my head, Matt laughed, before putting his head down on mine.

“Can we just stay?” He lifted is head off of mine, and hooked a finger under my chin to make me turn my head and look at him.

“Do you want to stay?” I nodded. “Why, just want to be here? Or do you want to stay with me?”

“Both.” I couldn’t help It, it was the truth, so I wanted him to hear it. He bit his lip, and nodded. I understood why his eyes zeroed in on my lips earlier. I just had to watch as his teeth bit softly against his full bottom lip.

“Teddi, I’m going to kiss you again if you keep staring at my mouth like that.” I looked up at him, not sure what to say, but I had to try something. I slowly moved to my knees, so I was face to face with him. His eyes widened as I put my hands on either side of his neck, and leaned into him, pressing my lips against his. I heard him inhale deeply, before his hands reached out and grabbed my hips. I gasped as his tongue flicked across my bottom lip, making me open my mouth slightly, giving his tongue room to move inside my mouth. I froze, no sure what to expect at this point, but when his tongue met mine, I couldn’t help but move mine against his. I heard a growl come from Matt, making me pull back and stare at him with wide eyes. His breathing was deeper, and ragged, and the look of his eyes in the starlight made a shiver run down my spine.

“Did I hurt you?” I whispered, he gave a breathy chuckle, and squeezed my hips.

“No baby, you couldn’t hurt me.” I was so confused…

“Then why’d you growl?” He bit his lip, and seemed to absentmindedly be molding my hips with his fingers. I slowly moved my fingers across the back of his neck, massaging softly, waiting for the answer to my question. He seemed to be searching for the right words, not sure what to say.

“I did it… Because it felt good. I guess it’s primal Teddi, it felt good, and I wanted you to know.” I nodded, not sure what else to think. He had told me, so I had to go with that answer. “I should take you home now baby.” I nodded, Matt took my hands off of his neck, I whimpered, just wanting to touch him. He froze at the sound, and growled again, before pulling me closer to him and kissing me again. His tongue quickly found a way in between my lips, and rubbed against mine. I put my hands back on his neck, as Matt pulled me up against him tightly. He moved one hand off of my hips, and cradled the back of my head, combing his fingers through my hair as he did it, before slowly moving me back onto the blanket, and covering me with his body.

I started to panic, this wasn’t what I was expecting. I tried to calm myself down, by taking a deep breathe, but I didn’t know how to calm myself down at this point. I pulled my head back and put my hands against Matt’s chest pushing as hard as I could. He pulled back, staring down at me as I gasped for breath.

“Baby, I’m so sorry. Calm down Teddi, please calm down. I should’ve known not to do that, I’m so, so sorry!” Matt grabbed my face in his hands, and put his forehead against mine, speaking quickly, breathing hard. “Breath with me baby.” I nodded and did as he said, inhaling and exhaling with him. A few minutes later I was calm enough, and felt like a fool.

“I’m so sorry!” Matt shook his head and kissed my forehead, holding his lips there for a moment.

“Don’t be sorry, that was my fault. I took that way too far.” I stared up at him, not knowing what to say anymore. I wanted it, but at the same time, I didn’t want it. It was too scary for me. “We’ll go slower baby, I won’t push as much, I swear.”

“Okay Matt.” He put his forehead back against mine, and took a few deep breathes, I just watched him, I was still lying under him, which gave me the perfect vantage point to stare at up at him. He seemed a little stressed, I put my hands under his arms, and up to his shoulders, and started rubbing. I watched his eyes relax, as his breathing slowly relaxed too. I smiled, and decided it’d be okay to lean up and peck his lips again.

“Matty, relax.” His eyes popped open, and a grin took over his face.

“So, I’m Matty now, huh?” I could feel the blush taking over my cheeks, as I bit my lip, trying to hide a smile. I couldn’t do anything more than nod, making Matt laugh at me. He rubbed his nose against mine making me giggle.

“That was really cute.” I blurted out, I couldn’t seem to help but say anything that popped into my head around him. He wiggled his eyebrows before doing it again, I giggled and scrunched my nose up.

“Don’t scrunch your nose at me!” He gripped my sides, and tickled slightly, making me freak out. I was extremely ticklish, and couldn’t help but flail and squeal, causing him to laugh and continue tickling me.

“Matty, please!” I squealed again, and tried turning away from him, kicking at the sand beneath my feet. He laughed and kissed my cheek, before kissing all over the rest of my face quickly, then pecking at my lips quickly. I grinned back up at him, wishing I could stay like this with him, forever.
