“I love you,” the words were echoing over and over in her mind.

The smile on her face felt like it had been there for days; every time his face popped up in her mind it got wider. Bouts of giggles bubbled up into her throat and she squeezed her eyes shut, shaking her head to try and compose herself. She was sitting on the couch, a book in her hand and the sunlight shining on her face, when she heard the front door open and the cocooned caterpillars became butterflies in her stomach.

He walked up to her, a soft smile taking over his features, and sat down beside her. His arms wrapped around her shoulders and she fell into him, a quiet laugh escaping from between her lips. He pressed his lips to the top of her head and she sighed.

It couldn’t get any better than this.
